Darussalam Assets (DA), a company that owns and manages several of Brunei’s government-linked companies, has become one of the first customers in Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ) to leverage SAP Business AI in an existing SAP solution. This move marks a significant step forward in the company’s digital transformation journey as it seeks to enhance its HR processes and drive innovation across its diverse portfolio of subsidiaries.

Darussalam Assets is a company that owns and manages several of Brunei’s government-linked companies, with a portfolio of 30 subsidiaries and 14 sectors, including telecommunications, agribusiness, healthcare, education, and power utilities. The company has been at the forefront of digital transformation, adopting SAP S/4HANA shortly after its global release in 2016.

DA’s adoption of SAP SuccessFactors in 2019 has already yielded significant benefits, integrating and streamlining its talent management operations for over 9,000 employees across 30 subsidiaries and 14 sectors. The inclusion of SAP Business AI has further enhanced these processes, particularly in the area of recruitment.

According to Salehin Basir, Senior Manager of Human Capital Development at Darussalam Assets, the integration of SAP Business AI has automated routine tasks such as generating job descriptions, parsing resumes, and providing quality feedback on the spot. This has resulted in a significant reduction in the company’s hiring process, from three to four months down to just three to four weeks.

Basir emphasizes that the adoption of the AI solution has not only automated processes but also generated competency-based interview questions on the spot, leading to a more equitable and skills-based interview process. The company has seen improvements in how it manages its DA Group talent pool, with the recruitment cycle being significantly reduced.

Streamlining Talent Management with SAP Business AI

SAP Business AI is built into the SAP applications that power critical business processes. It comprises a range of AI innovations developed using extensive industry-specific data and deep process knowledge, all created using responsible AI practices.

DA’s journey with the AI solution is just beginning, with the company already exploring deeper integration and use cases in its workflow. This includes using AI to help manage differences within teams and tailor management and performance strategies to individual needs and personalities, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach.

The company also plans to leverage AI for decision support, using data-driven insights to aid in decision-making processes. This can enable HR to make more informed decisions about personnel management and development, including succession planning.

Apurv Sharma, Senior Manager of Group Information Systems at Darussalam Assets, expresses excitement about deepening the company’s AI capabilities and tapping into SAP Business AI’s potential to further transform the business. The ultimate goal is to leverage AI not just for automation but to foster a culture of innovation that drives leadership in the industries in which DA operates.

SAP’s Commitment to Delivering Relevant, Reliable, and Responsible AI

SAP’s President and Managing Director for Southeast Asia, Verena Siow, commends Darussalam Assets for their foresight in continuing their SAP journey with the latest AI innovations. She emphasizes that SAP Business AI is focused on delivering customers the most relevant, reliable, and responsible AI, built specifically for business.

Siow highlights the tangible business benefits that SAP Business AI provides, as demonstrated by the work with Darussalam Assets. SAP looks forward to supporting DA as it continues to improve its employee processes and experience, setting new benchmarks in operational excellence.

As one of the first customers in APJ to leverage SAP Business AI in an existing SAP solution, Darussalam Assets is setting an example for other organizations in the region looking to harness the power of AI to transform their business processes and drive innovation.

In a groundbreaking move set to enhance the digital landscape of India, SAP, a global market leader in enterprise application software, has revealed plans to make its wide array of cloud offerings available through a local SAP data center. Scheduled for availability from mid-2024, this initiative is a nod to the country’s regulatory landscape and is designed to mitigate risks while fostering an environment of trust and resilience for mission-critical business applications.

In response to the data processing and storage requirements that significantly impact various segments of SAP’s clientele in India, the company’s decision to establish a local data center is both strategic and timely. By hosting popular cloud solutions such as SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP SuccessFactors, and SAP Ariba within India’s sovereign borders, SAP aims to fortify its position in the nation’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Minister for Railways, Communication, Electronics & Information Technology, appreciates SAP’s commitment to the country’s digital transformation. Reflecting on the Prime Minister’s vision of a Digital India, Vaishnaw acknowledges that SAP’s expansion into locally based data centers aligns well with the country’s ambitions.

Furthermore, Thomas Saueressig, responsible for SAP Product Engineering, emphasized India’s impending rise as the third-largest global economy. He highlighted how SAP’s cloud strategy, which already influences 60% of India’s GDP, would further benefit from an India-based data center. This local presence is positioned to aid organizations in transforming their operations and innovating in the cloud.

Collaboration and Innovation: The Heart of SAP’s Strategy

SAP’s upcoming data center in India will operate in collaboration with cloud service providers that have the endorsement of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. This ensures the in-country residency of both business-critical and personal data.

Kulmeet Bawa, President & Managing Director of SAP Indian Subcontinent, emphasizes that the establishment of the data center underscores SAP’s enduring partnership with customers, businesses, and the government in realizing a self-reliant, Digital India. The new development stands as an infrastructure backbone for businesses across the spectrum, facilitating the creation of novel customer experiences and scaling innovation.

Sindhu Gangadharan, Senior Vice President and Managing Director at SAP Labs India, sees the India-based data center as a historic milestone for SAP in the country. Describing data as the cornerstone of the digital age, Gangadharan is confident that the center will be the foundation for innovation and growth for SAP’s customers.

SAP Data Center Builds on Global Cloud Momentum

India is not just one of the fastest-growing cloud markets for SAP but also hosts its largest R&D base outside Germany, boasting a workforce of 15,000 employees. The new data center is poised to build upon SAP’s established global cloud momentum, which witnessed cloud services emerging as the company’s primary revenue stream in 2022.

SAP’s decision to invest in an Indian data center is a testament to its commitment to addressing the challenges faced by its customers. From fostering cloud-based innovation to strengthening supply chain resilience and incorporating sustainability into business cores, SAP is striving to remain at the forefront of technological solutions.

The introduction of an SAP data center in India marks a significant stride in the company’s journey towards supporting and empowering the nation’s burgeoning business landscape. By seamlessly integrating and adapting to the country’s regulatory framework and addressing the needs of the digital economy, SAP’s cloud solutions are also poised to catalyze progress and pave the way for a digitally empowered India.

Shiseido Co., Ltd., a global leader in the beauty industry, has declared a significant shift towards enhancing its human resources (HR) management by implementing SAP’s HR cloud SAP SuccessFactors. The reform aims to streamline personnel and payroll management systems to better serve the company’s 24,000 employees in Japan, with operations set to begin in March 2023. He further noted that this change would support diverse employees in maximizing their abilities, contributing to Shiseido’s data-driven management and the realization of the FOCUS transformation program.

On the other hand, Yoichi Taguchi, a partner at EY Strategy and Consulting, emphasized the shared mission between EYSC and Shiseido of building a better working world. Taguchi also conveyed his pleasure in the operational shift to SAP SuccessFactors and affirmed EYSC’s commitment to supporting HR digital transformation (HRDX). Shiseido’s move to implement SAP SuccessFactors underlines its dedication to fostering a PEOPLE FIRST culture. This strategic transition is a testament to Shiseido’s commitment to investing in its most valuable asset—its people. It illustrates the company’s focus on leveraging technology and strategic planning to drive growth, innovation, and productivity in its workforce, ultimately aiming to create a better world through beauty innovations.

The HR digital transformation at PT Bank Danamon Indonesia is being supported by SAP SuccessFactors in order to automate the financial institution’s core processes and raise the level of productivity among management and staff.

More and more companies are now undergoing a digital transformation, which entails a complete rethinking of their operations from the ground up, in order to better serve their customers. To stay ahead of the competition in the Indonesian banking industry — which has a significant challenge of delivering an unparalleled customer experience — organizations are determined to make it their mission to provide a solution by leveraging the latest technologies.

In order to better serve its more than 70 million clients across the country, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia collaborated with SAP Indonesia to fortify its central processes and systems. Several areas of the company’s operations have been targeted for improvement, leading to the adoption of seven different SAP modules. Another leading general banking services provider, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia, also executed digital transformation supported by SAP technologies to enhance its human resources (HR) management.

Since Bank Danamon recognizes the importance of the “People” element in a digital transformation strategy, it has tapped SAP Indonesia to help propel innovation and improve its operations through digital business process solutions. The financial institution prioritized investments in cutting-edge technologies that would empower and assist employees who are essential to the organization’s success. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

Bank Danamon’s digital transformation is centered on improving the use of HR data and other business data in making operational decisions. As a result, the company’s HR team needed a system that can handle not just the daily tasks of capturing and maintaining HR data, but also the more complex ones of managing dynamic big data. Since 2017, Bank Danamon has relied on SAP SuccessFactors, with the goal of maximizing the benefit of these well-established digital solutions within the business.

Detailing more about how important HR digital transformation is to the company, especially now in an all-digital world, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk HR Digitalization Head Handri Yustanto shared:

“HR plays an important role in implementing digital transformation and even sees it as a business partner. Bank Danamon itself is trying to be adaptive to the situation and is committed to implementing a comprehensive transformation in the HR field. This can be seen in the HR process with more distributed control, high collaboration, centralized coordination, as well as process agility and speed.”

Furthermore, Yustanto stated that the organization has been able to reduce more than 70% of employee complaints, automate 64% of formerly manual operations, and give managers or staff decision-making control over 30% of the activities with added value as a result of the HR digital transformation.

Expediting HR Digital Transformation with SAP SuccessFactors

Solutions offered by SAP SuccessFactors are hosted in the cloud and are used to perform anything from basic HR and payroll to talent management, HR analytics, workforce planning, and even employee engagement. HCM Suite components have been rebranded as SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite and now offer customized experiences to boost productivity and employee engagement. Since its inception in 2001 and incorporation into the SAP family in 2012, SAP SuccessFactors products have been adopted by more than 235 million users in over 200 countries and nations worldwide.

According to SAP Indonesia Managing Director Andreas Diantoro, Bank Danamon’s digital transformation using SAP SuccessFactors was a success because it optimized core processes and prepared human resources, both of which are crucial for adapting to new business conditions. He added that Bank Danamon’s digital transformation is in line with HR trends expected to grow in the next years, such as change management, which leads to improved corporate performance, and people analytics, which helps businesses better understand and motivate their employees.

“Now, HR benefits from SAP SuccessFactors as it is equipped with intelligent capabilities to empower business users to unlock potential through easy-to-use interfaces, shorten the time to set up complex system landscapes, and align data from multiple sources, enabling business users to perform analysis sophisticated in data-based HR management,” Diantoro noted.

Bank Danamon’s continuing digital transformation project is motivated by a desire to provide significant and tangible results for the business in the near future.  Yustanto stated that they are in the process of establishing the HR Strategic Initiative roadmap 2023-2024, and that one of their goals is to construct a data-driven system that makes use of rich and dynamic HR big data to power HR strategic decisions.

“SAP Indonesia will wholeheartedly continue to support Bank Danamon’s business in its digital transformation journey,” the SAP MD remarked.

PCS Thailand has announced its largest investment in 50 years — the deployment of SAP SuccessFactors cloud HR solution which will streamline HR processes and replace legacy systems. This is a significant move for the company and one that signals a real commitment to embrace new technologies in order to stay competitive.

A subsidiary of OCS Group, PCS Thailand is a leading international provider of integrated facility management services. It has been in business for more than five decades and has established a strong reputation for quality and reliability. PCS Thailand has 20 branches and 5 security training centers across the country, making it one of the largest businesses under the OCS Group. It provides essential facilities management services to more than 5,000 customers in Thailand, helping them to reduce costs, improve operational efficiency, and achieve their sustainability goals.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced people to change the way they work and shift their preferences in terms of employee experience in their organizations. In response, PCS Thailand has been on a digital transformation journey to provide efficient services to its customers and support geographically dispersed employees and operations. This shift has required PCS Thailand to improve its technology infrastructure and adopt new ways of working in order to meet the needs of its employees and customers.

After careful consideration, PCS Thailand decided that SAP SuccessFactors was the best option to align with its digital transformation approach. The cloud-based human resources (HR) solution deployment is aimed at improving process efficiencies for its workforce across the country, from operating staff to frontline employees. Implementing SAP SuccessFactors would enable PCS Thailand to improve communication and collaboration among people, as well as provide them with access to up-to-date information and resources.

PCS Thailand has now joined the likes of Thai Beverage and Kuok Singapore in reinventing HR through the use of innovative technologies that empower employees. The transformation project enables employees to have more control over their work lives and careers, resulting in a more motivated and productive workforce.

David McGeown, Director of Transformation and Technology at PCS Thailand, stated that the company’s digital transformation approach centers around improving services and giving customers more accurate information about those offerings. He added that the company has reached a tipping point where it can no longer sustain expansion by adding staff to existing processes.

“So, a big part of our digital transformation strategy is to simplify work processes by replacing paper-based tasks with automated processes. This will help remove the burden of personal and employment administration tasks and will make it easier for our front-line employees to perform their work,” he further explained.

Implementing SAP’s Cloud HR Solution

SAP SuccessFactors solutions will allow PCS Thailand to manage and automate administrative tasks for each employee’s role. According to the press release, employees will be able to clock in and out while working onsite, as well as request holidays via mobile device. This streamlined process makes it easier for employees to stay connected with their work schedule, whether they are at the office or on the go.

Moreover, the organization will also be able to access the new HR system via a Line application, which is an app that frontline personnel are already familiar with from using it in their everyday life. This capability will be made possible by an enhanced Social Media Integration Service offered by SAP.

McGeown stated that PCS can free itself from the responsibility of managing infrastructure and scale up as needed with the help of cloud technologies. He noted that the company has a highly aggressive growth plan to raise the number of employees by 15 percent in 2022 and 15 percent in 2023. He remarked:

“Moving to the cloud gives us opportunities to scale without increasing cost in an exponential manner. We will know exactly how much it will cost us to increase our employee base while using SAP SuccessFactors.”

Honored to have been chosen as PCS Thailand’s in their HR modernization efforts, SAP Indochina Managing Director Atul Tuli is confident that the customer, with the use of cutting-edge intelligent HR solutions, will be able to better care for its employees, in keeping with the company’s core value.

“This core value of care translates into giving employees greater access to their own information, giving the HR team the ability to provide better support and guidance to front-line workers as well as an ability to have two-way communications with employees,” he concluded.

With more and more organizations putting people at the heart of their human resources (HR) strategy, SAP SuccessFactors talent acquisition solutions have become increasingly popular across a wide variety of industries. These tools are designed to help companies achieve their objectives by getting the best talent in order to support their goals.

SAP SuccessFactors has been investing in its talent acquisition and management solutions to provide businesses with the necessary tools that they need in order to challenge themselves with a robust approach to building a sustainable workforce — from recruitment, to internal mobility, to training programs that are designed for ongoing development. Its talent acquisition product development is fully focused on transitioning from an applicant driven marketplace to one that is “talent driven” by enhancing the candidate experience, providing greater support for recruitment solution users, and automating processes. The company has also invested in enhancing core capabilities such as the system’s natural language processing and machine learning algorithms.

Recently, SAP SuccessFactors has been named a Leader in the International Data Corporation (IDC) MarketScape for Worldwide Modern Talent Acquisition Suites 2022 Vendor Assessment. The IDC MarketScape report by the global market intelligence firm is a competitive assessment of suppliers for the worldwide market. Rankings are based on completeness of vision, ability to execute, and ability to address customer needs.

The IDC MarketScape has noted that SAP SuccessFactors, a global leader in cloud-based human experience management (HXM) software, continues to grow by providing new features and functionality to its platform. It is now better positioned than ever to provide recruiters, hiring managers, and candidates with an enhanced experience while improving core metrics including quality of hire and time-to-fill.

In a blog post, Amy Wilson, Senior Vice President (SVP) of Products and Design for SAP SuccessFactors, shared that the enthusiasm that the company feels at being recognized as a Leader by the IDC MarketScape is only exceeded by the commitment that it has for helping its customers prevail in the competition for talent. She added:

“As we look toward the future, we are focused on continuing to build our whole self model to support organizations in continuing to provide opportunities that are relevant for each individual – helping them to grow their careers in line with their personal growth.”

How SAP SuccessFactors Talent Acquisition Solutions Help Transform Organizations

South Africa-based financial services firm Discovery Limited was able to reduce their time-to-hire by 25% by introducing SAP SuccessFactors’ solutions. These solutions helped make the hiring process more efficient, which is something that is needed in today’s demanding business environment. Kammy Sing, the Head of Operations at Discovery Limited, said that the best candidates are often the ones with multiple job offers, noting that any delays in the hiring process can be costly to companies who might miss out on valuable talent.

Sharing more about how SAP SuccessFactors helped improve the company’s HR operations, Sing said:

“With faster hiring processes we’re even better placed to find and attract top talent to our organization.”

Singaporean food and agricultural business Olam International also uses SAP SuccessFactors solutions to power their talent management. The company is one of the many SAP customers who have managed to take advantage of our solutions for their business in order to transform the way that they manage talent.

Since 2010, SAP solutions have been a crucial pillar in Olam International’s IT strategy. The long-term collaboration between Olam International and SAP is meant to ensure that the global food and agri-business industry will stay ahead of the curve and grow successfully as it implements scalable systems.

Explaining why the company chose SAP technologies to back their transformation efforts, Olam International President and Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) Thiagaraja Manikandan said:

“To operate at the speed modern business demands and strengthen our position as a leading employer, Olam chose SAP SuccessFactors and Qualtrics to reimagine how we equip candidates and employees with the resources, services, and tools to support their work and development.”

Moreover, Amy Wilson from SAP SuccessFactors believes that with the integration of talent data across the employee lifecycle, organizations can better understand each individual and provide them with a more personalized experience. She said that this will lead to a sustainable workforce that can offer sustainable economic growth for the future.

Aside from leveraging various SAP software solutions to ramp up Ooredoo’s enterprise-wide digital transformation, the Qatari multinational company will also be integrating the Icertis contract management software with SAP Ariba and SAP S/4HANA for greater contract intelligence.

Telecommunications company Ooredoo Group has earlier announced that it will be embarking on a digital enterprise transformation in collaboration with German software giant SAP centred on consolidating all of its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions across its global operations. The multinational company is one of the leading telcos in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia with expertise in mobile, fixed, broadband internet, and corporate managed services.

Under the SAP partnership, Ooredoo aims to achieve an infrastructure that would support integrated, end-to-end processes and systems to deliver enhanced experiences to both its internal and external customers. The company will be leveraging the RISE suite of applications including SAP S/4HANA and SAP Business Technology Platform as well as procurement and supply chain software SAP Ariba and human capital management solution SAP SuccessFactors to support the enterprise-wide business transformation.

“We are proud to be a key enabler in Ooredoo’s digital transformation journey. Our holistic and customer-centric approach will help Ooredoo simplify and optimise its landscape, enabling the company to achieve its goals and respond to future opportunities with even greater agility and speed,” SAP CEO Christian Klein commented in March.

Three months after the announcement of a strategic partnership with SAP, Ooredo continues to reinforce its enterprise transformation strategy, this time, in alliance with contract intelligence company Icertis

Icertis Contract Management to Deliver Greater Insights

Focused on streamlining contracts and processes across operations in Qatar, Algeria, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar, Palestine, and Tunisia, Ooredoo will be utilising Icertis Contract Intelligence (ICI), an AI-powered, analyst-validated contract management platform that encompasses end-to-end lifecycle of contract management capabilities– from intelligent contract setup to authoring, approvals, negotiations, and other contract operations-related tasks. Apart from delivering intelligent contract management to help the business run better, the enterprise-wide solution drives compliance through monitoring and smart rules.

Icertis Chief Revenue Officer Anand Veerkar emphasised the significant impact of contract management on overall business operations and monitoring cash flow. Sharing how Ooredoo can benefit from the Icertis platform, he said:

“Icertis transforms these powerful documents into structured, connected, and on-demand data to deliver intelligent contract authoring, automation, and insights. With Icertis Contract Intelligence, Ooredoo and other market-leading innovators can ensure the intent of every contract is correctly memorialized and fully realized across the enterprise, driving competitive advantage and growth.”

The transformation partnership involves integrating the Icertis Contract Intelligence CLM (contract lifecycle management) platform with cloud-based solutions SAP Ariba and SAP S/4HANA for data-driven business insights. In addition, Ooredoo will also leverage the ICI NegotiateAI app to provide the company with AI-powered insights to optimise contractual negotiations and reduce risk.

“A key pillar of Ooredoo’s corporate strategy is to evolve today’s core business and build a smart telco, thereby further digitizing our operations and accelerating growth. To achieve this, we are partnering with world-leading providers to help us consolidate business applications on a common platform across our operating companies around the world,” explained Christian Friedrich Linhart, Group Chief Procurement Officer, Ooredoo Group. “We are very happy to have selected Icertis for its telecommunications industry expertise, AI capabilities, and extensive SAP partnership and integrations, which offer us a single-team approach to enterprise-wide contract intelligence.”
