SAP.iO Foundry Singapore and SAP Partner HCL Technologies introduced a new immersive startup program centered on the Intelligent Enterprise.

SAP recognizes that firms’ long-term success relies on their agility in the face of today’s complex market conditions. In order to stay competitive in a disruptive and fast-changing business environment, organizations need to reinvent their operations to develop highly automated business processes. This involves using cutting-edge technologies, such as those provided by SAP, to convert inflexible, siloed practices into dynamic, data-driven processes.

As the German tech giant’s strategic business unit, SAP.iO aims to accelerate and scale startup innovation, and foster employee initiatives to create new collaborations and solutions for the company. Innovators from across the globe as well as every functional area of business are convened at SAP.iO to establish a new paradigm for the intelligent enterprise. With SAP.iO’s support, more than 450 independent startups and internal projects have seen rapid development since 2017, and numerous SAP clients have gained access to innovation as a result.

Last year, SAP.iO Foundry Singapore and SAP SuccessFactors formed an accelerator program focused on HR technologies and innovative workplace solutions. Six software startups from all over the world were chosen to participate in a digital 13-week course by a panel of SAP specialists and SAP partners. Meanwhile, six business-to-business (B2B) firms were also part of SAP.iO Foundry Singapore’s Fall 2020 program cohort, backing SAP clients’ investments in SAP Concur solutions for travel and expense management.

Once again this year, SAP.iO Foundry Singapore has introduced a startup program in collaboration with SAP Partner HCL Technologies. Five international startups have been chosen by a panel of SAP and HCL Technologies experts to participate in a virtual startup program centered on the Intelligent Enterprise strategy. In the domains of Industry 4.0, the metaverse, and sustainability, the startups are developing ground-breaking solutions for organizations from a wide range of industries.

SAP Asia Pacific and Japan President Paul Marriott said that many of the world’s most progressive nations are located in Asia. He added that the region is a hub for startup innovation due to the presence of a large and rising young talent pool as well as the major investments SAP is witnessing pouring into the region.

Commenting on the recently announced partnership between SAP.iO Foundry Singapore and HCL Technologies, the SAP APJ President remarked:

“Through this collaboration with HCLTech, we are bringing together the right technology, support, and insight to further accelerate startup innovation and introduce game-changing solutions – especially in the areas most essential in building future-readiness – to more of our customers, more quickly.”

Partnering with HCL to Expedite the Intelligent Enterprise Vision

HCL Technologies has been SAP’s worldwide strategic partner for almost two decades. The Noida, India-based IT company engages with the German tech giant on innovative technologies like SAP Leonardo, Blockchain, and SAP S4/HANA as an SAP service and license resale partner. Furthermore, HCL Technologies’ goal is to aid businesses in a broad variety of sectors in their transition to intelligent enterprises by providing them with a team of consultants across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), and APJ.

Together with HCL Technologies’ SAP Ecosystem Unit and eSTiPTM, its flagship open innovation platform and initiative, SAP.iO Foundry Singapore’s 13-week program provides companies with customized mentorship from SAP and HCLTech professionals. It also provides access to SAP’s APIs and technologies, as well as the opportunity to work with SAP and HCL Technologies’ global clientele.

The program now includes the following startups:

  • Singapore-based H3 Dynamics provides drone services for business condition monitoring, security, and safety by combining machine learning (ML), remote telerobotics, and off-grid technologies.
  • South Korean company DeepBrain AI is an industry leader in digital customer service and a crucial link between businesses and their clients.
  • By empowering constant, real-time surveillance with artificial intelligence-powered video analytics, Singapore-headquartered Invigilo improves the culture of safety in the workplace.
  • WeavAir, which has offices in Canada, Singapore, and South Korea, helps businesses track their carbon footprint by monitoring the energy used by their buildings and vehicles.
  • Route optimization, electronic proof of delivery, quick alerts, and real-time work progress tracking are just some of the ways in which Versafleet automates 21st-century supply chains.

Kalyan Kumar, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Ecosystems at HCL Technologies, shared in a statement:

“HCLTech is a catalyst for change, and our commitment to innovation only strengthens with this program that we are driving in collaboration with SAP.iO. We jointly aspire for accelerated growth for our customers, leveraging niche and meaningful innovations. We are keen to establish our thought leadership in the areas of sustainability and Industry 4.0, and this collaboration is a step towards that.”

The comprehensive suite of SAP CX solutions aim to support enterprises in delivering an outstanding customer experience across all channels. The German software giant continues to invest in new and innovative technologies to help organizations keep pace with the ever-changing needs of their customers.

SAP has been increasing its sustainable customer-centric offerings and as such, introduced the new intelligent SAP Service Cloud in May this year. The innovative solution transforms customer service by maintaining constant, meaningful communication with customers. SAP Service Cloud upholds the purpose of the brand and ensures its continued development by focusing on speed, insights, and accuracy in the resolution of customer issues.

With SAP Service Cloud’s case management designer, customers can develop and modify service processes in response to evolving business requirements. In addition, SAP AppGyver integration also enables non-technical employees to swiftly deal with new business issues should their company necessitate deployment extension.

Moreover, the tech giant is committed to improving and expanding the interoperability of its customer experience products which include SAP Commerce Cloud, SAP Emarsys Customer Engagement, SAP Sales Cloud, and SAP Customer Data solutions. In August, SAP received its eighth consecutive “Leader” designation in the “Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce” from IT research and advisory firm Gartner.

When it comes to digital commerce, the SAP Customer Experience portfolio provides a comprehensive solution that exceeds the capabilities of conventional CRM software. The portfolio also incorporates consumer data, experiential and operational data, and machine learning (ML) to provide a holistic picture of the customer experience. Through this, companies can provide clients with a consistent, individualized experience across all touchpoints.

This month, SAP Korea recently hosted a press conference at the InterContinental Seoul COEX and provided a variety of perspectives on the topic of CX management in the post-COVID 19 era. Jen Bailin, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) of Customer Experience at SAP; Balaji Balasubramanian, Senior Vice President (SVP) and Global Head of Commerce Cloud at SAP; and Professor Kyung Jin Cha, Faculty Member of School of Business at Hanyang University, shared their insights during the event. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

“Businesses are investing a lot of money and manpower in customer management solutions, and customer experience solutions are one of the fastest growing areas of SAP’s business. Based on the four solutions of customer data, sales and service, and marketing, we will support companies and organizations to more efficiently manage and develop their customers,” Bailin stated.

Becoming an Intelligent Enterprise With SAP CX

The intelligent enterprise strategy developed by SAP places a significant emphasis on CX.  During the pandemic, customers all around the globe shifted from their conventional shopping and consuming habits to doing their activities online. As a direct consequence of this transition, businesses are accelerating the pace of innovation in their operations and transforming the environment in which their customers engage. Enterprises have now integrated data flows across the whole customer lifecycle and are beginning to harness the power of a wide range of data resources.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic nearing its end, Bailin noted that SAP is still focusing on how cloud computing can help businesses become more resilient and flexible so that they can better adapt to changing consumer expectations and market conditions. She added:

“The interactions between businesses and customers are changing rapidly. Today’s customers are looking for more connectivity than simply buying a product, and this change will only accelerate.”

Furthermore, SAP’s focus on the customer experience, along with developments like DTC and B2B consumerization, has resulted in a surge in the company’s clientele. SAP has distinguished itself as a solution provider throughout the pandemic, being chosen by three major worldwide vaccine makers, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and Moderna. SAP systems are widely adopted and used by both local and international businesses for managing customer data and advertising to their target audiences.

“SAP provides a wide range of tools and capabilities to help businesses fully understand and utilize the concept of customer experience. It is important to provide an immersive experience by understanding and providing only necessary information (orchestration),” Balasubramanian remarked.

SAP NOW Hong Kong 2022, an event organized by the German tech giant this year, is an innovative conference that has attracted some of the country’s reputable business leaders to share their thoughts on cloud, data, and technology.

With the business environment changing in an effort to stay ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic, companies are doing more to accelerate their digital transformation initiatives. It has become vital to remain resilient and responsive in order to compete with current and future competitors in the market. Recently, the subsidiary of the German enterprise software giant in Hong Kong invited esteemed leaders from the local business community — that has been at the forefront of transformational change — to share their best practices and insights into cloud deployment.

In the lead-up to the SAP NOW Hong Kong conference, the emphasis has been on preparing “Intelligent Sustainable Enterprises” for a future of data-driven operations. In honor of SAP’s global 50th anniversary and SAP Hong Kong’s 30th anniversary, it is an opportunity to reflect and reimagine how society can create organizations that are sustainable in every sense of the word – socially and environmentally but also financially.

During the event conference held this month, SAP Hong Kong Managing Director Rajni Sharma welcomed a diverse range of key business community stakeholders to the forum where she shared her insights on how the latest cutting-edge technologies can help companies transform. She said that the company launched the Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) offering RISE with SAP a year ago, bringing with it fifty years of experience in providing enterprise solutions.

Utilizing data management, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), automation, and predictive analysis, Sharma said that the holistic service enables businesses to better facilitate collaboration among their clients, staff, vendors, and partners.

“SAP is also supporting companies to embed sustainability into their core processes to strengthen business continuity,” she further added.

Local Companies Share Transformation Stories at SAP NOW Hong Kong

In response to the growing importance of data in business, Tontec International Limited President Nelson Lam advised conference attendees at SAP NOW to begin their cloud journey by establishing a data culture within the company in which employees believe in the power of big data. Lam explained that this culture must be established before any other aspect of a cloud strategy is put into place, as it will serve as a foundation for key decisions related to large-scale data storage, analytics and more.

Tontec International Limited, a leading manufacturer of high-quality affordable injection molds that are used to mass-produce a wide variety of products, has recently adopted the signature cloud solution RISE with SAP with the goal of transforming the company’s manufacturing processes and powering its international expansion. Lam said that after successfully building a data culture inside an organization, they can then identify what type of product and process data to capture and utilize. He believes that this will provide a realistic understanding of what cloud computing brings as it pertains to specific data needs.

Meanwhile, Crystal International Group Limited — a global leader in apparel manufacturing and one of the best-known brands in high-quality fashion — has been able to buck the trend of being a company that is reliant on labor when they have instead embraced automation and AI. As a result, it has been able to bolster its transformation through a “One Team One Dream” slogan, empowering its workforce, technology partners and SAP departments, to work towards a shared objective.

Karl Ting, who is the General Manager of Corporate Information Services at the company, noted that companies that are venturing into a cloud transformation journey to establish clear goals and objectives should first begin on a roadmap that is well-defined and logical, with steps that are carefully planned out. However, he also said that organizations should be aware that continuous improvement is not a guarantee and that this can often involve taking risks in order to see the desired outcome.

Other local enterprises that also joined the SAP NOW Hong Kong forum are Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Company Limited and Chinachem Group. They are often seen as some of the most innovative companies in their respective industries, making them strong candidates for going out of their way to be a part of such an event.

Five series of lists and up to 30 subcategories have been created for the SAP Digital Transformation “Dingge Awards” 2022 in China to further demonstrate organisations’ journey to becoming sustainable, intelligent enterprises through innovation.

SAP China established the Dingge Awards to celebrate customers’ progress in business transformation leveraging SAP technologies. The awards aim to recognise firms in mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong that have outperformed their competition, highlighting their digital transformation efforts in recent years. These organisations have built an effective strategy that has enabled them to take the lead in their respective product markets and sectors, while also taking into consideration the onset of the digital economy’s new customer needs, capabilities, key infrastructure, and industry best practices, among other factors. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

Dr. Huang Chenhong, who officially took on the role of SAP Global Executive Vice President and President of Greater China in August last year, said in a statement:

“In line with the macro trends of digital economy, industrial synergy, and green development, ‘new Chinese enterprises’ are becoming full-data smart enterprises, full-link collaborative enterprises, and full-scale enterprises. SAP will continue to deepen the concept of ‘in China, for China’ and be the enabler of the digital transformation of ‘new Chinese enterprises’ in the cloud era.”

Commenting on the 2022 Dingge Award, he further shared:

“We look forward to discovering ‘new China’ through the ‘Dingge Award’ — the company’s digital transformation pioneer — sharing successful experience, leading the transformation and upgrading of the industry, and jointly promoting high-quality development through innovation.”

Dingge: SAP Digital Transformation Awards for Intelligent Enterprises

This year’s “Dingge Awards” are sponsored by China’s Harvard Business Review and SAP, with academic support provided by the Global Business Research Institute of Tsinghua University, which is highly important in the industry. It has been conducted for five consecutive years now and has attracted over 500 enterprises and more than 1,000 projects to showcase their initiatives. Remarkable customer cases in the past include National Energy Group, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), Mindray Medical, Anhui Heli, Juhua Group, Xiaomi and other companies that have exhibited innovation through SAP solutions.

According to Professor Li Donghong from the Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategy, School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, the SAP digital transformation awards are given to those that successfully create value through digital transformation, sustain innovation, and have a beneficial impact on industrial change. He added:

“I look forward to working with many experts this year to visit and investigate more innovative companies, to learn more about the significance of digital transformation of companies for industrial chain innovation and green and sustainable development, and to further deepen the understanding of research on the digital transformation of Chinese enterprises.”

This year, several new customers signed up for the German enterprise software giant’s cloud services. The Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) offering RISE with SAP was particularly popular in Q1 along with other solutions including SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), SAP S/4HANA, SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation (SAP iRPA), SAP Sales Cloud, SAP Commerce Cloud, and SAP Ariba.

However, Liu Xiao, Co-Producer and General Manager of the Chinese Edition of Harvard Business Review, believes that there is still a long way for the business community to realise the value and inevitability of digital transformation and to truly complete digital practice.

“I sincerely hope that this year’s ‘Dingge Award’ will be held successfully, and look forward to more ‘new Chinese enterprises’ to become role models and benchmarks for China’s digital transformation,” Liu Xiao concluded.

The first data center in Korea is part of the software company’s multi-cloud strategy designed to help its customers in their business transformation journey. As part of the data center’s two-stage plan, the currently completed first stage will be offering core services related to application development and process integration such as:

    • SAP HANA cloud-based database and data management related services
    • DevOps environment
    • UX and mobile services
    • Collaboration services

The SAP Analytics Cloud service will be offered by the second quarter of 2021.

The timely launch of the Korean data center aligns with the aggressive campaign for RISE with SAP, the German enterprise’s latest Business Transformation as a Service offering. The new comprehensive, intelligent, customer-specific offering enables a holistic digital transformation that goes beyond performing a technical migration to the cloud or adopting a new technology to propel businesses’ journey to an intelligent enterprise.

RISE with SAP leverages SAP solutions such as the next-generation, intelligent ERP business suite SAP S/4HANA Cloud and the platform for the Intelligent Enterprise SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). SAP BTP delivers one semantic layer across an enterprise, providing the foundation for a holistic business transformation.

SAP Korea stated that it leverages the infrastructure advantages of a Hyperscaler as well as business content and dozens of platform services that are built into SAP BTP. By leveraging SAP BTP, local consulting and system integration (SI) companies can develop SAP industry cloud services and provide service-type cloud (SaaS) to global SAP customers.

    Running SAP Data Center

In recent years, there has been a remarkable increase in the use and popularity of data centers to address the growing demand for cloud solution services. For SAP data centers, successful operations strongly depend on the robust design of every individual component and in the redundancy of critical components to ensure SAP and its customers are guaranteed access to secured data.

The critical components based on SAP’s data center in St. Leon-Rot, Germany are:

    • Power Supply. The data center is connected to two separate grid sectors operated by the local utility company. If one sector were to fail, then the second one will ensure that power is still supplied. In addition, it also has 13 diesel generators, which are housed in a separate building.
    • Cooling. Electronic components, especially the processors, generate heat when in operation. If it is not dissipated, a processor’s efficiency decreases, in extreme cases, to the point that the component could fail. Therefore, cooling is essential for data center operations.
    • Controlled Access. Access to the data center is allowed only for a limited number of authorized individuals. Entry is possible only through single-person access and mantrap systems. Freight can be brought into the data center using a special freight lock.

In addition to a well-constructed “hardened” building that houses servers, storage devices, cables, a connection to the Internet, SAP implements rigorous measures to ensure mission-critical applications housed in its 59 data centers around the world are uninterrupted.

    • Secure Operations. SAP protects its data centers by regularly checking smooth operations of technology and infrastructure. Whether fire, data breach, or hardware defect, SAP data centers are protected against many hazards.
    • Certified Security. The company regularly undergoes internal and external audits and reviews of its policies and controls, including data security and data protection regulations worldwide.
    • Optimized Value. Data centers run efficiently with the help of improved hardware use, simplified interfaces, and uninterrupted operations. Technologies such as virtualization,multi-tenancy, and adaptive computing play a critical role in providing cloud services.
    • Zero Emissions. SAP is able to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions in the data centers globally by practicing energy efficiency and procurement of electricity

SAP TechTalk shines a spotlight on SAP in the healthcare industry in a three-part webinar series starting on 19th August 2020.

Today, more than ever, the healthcare industry has relied on technology including COVID-19 contact-tracing, providing a stable medical supply chain, and adapting telehealth as well as remote monitoring of patients. To help the industry become a resilient and intelligent enterprise during these trying times, SAP TechTalk will be hosting a three-part webinar series to be held weekly from 19 August to 3 September.

Martin Burger, SAP’s Healthcare Go-To-Market Lead for Asia Pacific and China shared:

“In the past, hospitals never got the attention and budgets they deserve.”

Burger explained that the hospitals’ current finance system including funding approvals could be better with a sustainable solution. He said:

“Once the situation normalises, hospitals will have to check their finances.”

Hospitals have to closely monitor their costs, understand exactly where costs occur and what options there are to reduce costs or optimise them, without compromising quality of care,” he added.

    SAP in Healthcare

In the upcoming webinar series, the SAP will be sharing experiences from across the industry on how the German company can help the healthcare industry drive value-based case by being an intelligent enterprise.

Part 1: Integrated electronic medical record system for hospitals, 19th August

This webinar will touch on the inefficiencies in hospitals caused by isolated systems for finance, inventory, patient billing, pharmacy, clinician orders among others. These, essentially, affect the total patient experience.

In this webinar, participants will be able to get insights on how SAP addresses these concerns through an Electronic Medical Record system that is integrated with patient billing and ERP. SAP experts will share the importance of having an experienced healthcare implementation partner in ensuring a successful project.

Part 2: Driving better healthcare outcomes through analytics, 26th August

SAP will feature its analytics suite of products that address challenges such as overwhelming data volumes in diverse healthcare systems and receiving real-time analytics. Experts will share how hospitals can leverage health analytics through pre-defined healthcare models for optimal choices for patients.

    Burger explained:

“Traditional analytics solutions only look at historical data. It was assumed you have to always ask the same question.”

With predictive analytics, doctors can get more insights into possible outcomes almost instantly.

This webinar will also touch on how it is possible to derive data insights easily without a data scientist.

Part 3: Gaining granular insights into healthcare costs and profitability, 3rd September

SAP experts will delve into how hospitals can cope with increasing healthcare costs while maintaining profitability. This includes analysing their costs at a granular level such as cost per surgery, cost per diagnosis among many others to improve their bottom line.

SAP will also share how direct and indirect costs can be allocated using an activity-based costing model and simulate cost changes and their impact on profitability in this episode.

This webinar series reflects SAP’s vision to help the healthcare industry become an Intelligent Enterprise through innovative solutions that would be highly efficient at saving and improving lives, deliver a seamless patient experience, and ensure value-based care.
