Exotic Food Thailand, a prominent name in the world of Thai seasoning and ingredients, has significantly boosted its global reach and operational efficiency by adopting the RISE with SAP cloud ERP solution. This strategic move has propelled the company’s growth and innovation on the international stage.

Established in 1999, Exotic Food Thailand has grown to distribute over 800 products across 80 countries, becoming synonymous with authentic Thai flavors worldwide. This impressive expansion has recently seen a remarkable 73% increase in year-over-year sales, largely attributed to the deployment of the RISE with SAP package. The comprehensive solution, which includes AI-driven cloud ERP capabilities, has enabled Exotic Food to manage its rapid growth and large transaction volumes seamlessly.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the surge in home cooking led to an increased demand for Exotic Food’s products. However, this demand exposed the limitations of their existing on-premise ERP system, which struggled to scale effectively. In response, the company transitioned to RISE with SAP on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in January 2023. The migration to SAP S/4HANA Cloud has integrated key business functions, streamlined processes, and enhanced real-time decision-making, while AWS hosting has improved performance and reliability.

Enhanced Efficiency and Real-Time Decision Making

The adoption of RISE with SAP has been a transformative step for Exotic Food. According to Vasana Jantarach, Co-Founder and Managing Director, the cloud ERP system has optimized operational workloads and maintained staff capacity. The integration of financial processes across departments now provides a centralized view, automating tasks such as sales order computation, inventory management, and order fulfillment. This real-time handling of diverse product configurations allows Exotic Food to reach more customers globally in a shorter time.

The SAP S/4HANA Cloud has significantly reduced manual workloads, leading to faster and more accurate financial closings. Previously, month-end closings required extensive verification and correction of source data, resulting in lengthy delays. With real-time data recording and verification, financial reports are now generated more quickly and with fewer errors, reducing the time required for monthly closings from 18 days to just eight.

Automation and Data Traceability Using SAP Cloud ERP Solution

In the food industry, data traceability, production planning, and automation are critical. Previously, Exotic Food relied on paper-based transaction records, which made financial audits cumbersome. Now, with digitalized and centralized data on SAP S/4HANA Cloud, efficiency has markedly improved. Tasks that once took hours are now completed in minutes, providing a 99 percent reduction in time spent on traceability.

Automation has also streamlined operations, significantly reducing stocktaking time from two days to just half a day. This reduction in manual processes has freed up staff to focus on more strategic and business-critical tasks, thereby boosting overall productivity and innovation.

Kulwipa Piyawattanametha, Managing Director of SAP Indochina, emphasized the transformative impact of SAP solutions on Exotic Food’s operations. The company’s shift to the cloud has resulted in enhanced information management, increased data transparency, and more efficient decision-making processes. With the flexibility to add new solution extensions and leverage AI-powered capabilities, Exotic Food is well-positioned to continue its innovative trajectory.

The success of this migration is attributed to a clear ERP scope, experienced SAP implementation partners, and robust post-go-live support. Wisit Wirayagorn, Managing Director of NTT DATA Business Solutions (Thailand) Ltd., highlighted the importance of expertise in both the manufacturing and food industries. As the implementation partner, NTT DATA has worked closely with SAP and Exotic Food to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing optimization of business operations both in Thailand and globally.

With digital transformation sweeping all sectors, Arya Noble, a distinguished entity in Indonesia’s health and new ventures realm, recently embarked on its SAP journey.

Partnering with RISE with SAP, the company is tapping into cloud-based ERP to revolutionize its operations, optimize efficiency, and reshape healthcare experiences. This landmark venture doesn’t merely signify a dynamic shift in Arya Noble’s technological strategy but also denotes a significant stride towards realizing Indonesia’s nation-building objectives through its ‘Making Indonesia 4.0’ agenda.

Renowned for its flagship ERHA brand, Arya Noble has established a reputation for providing top-class clinical treatments. Its wide portfolio also encompasses other highly regarded brands like GENERO, Derma XP, and Marco. Arya Noble’s unique value comes from its full ownership of the complete process, from production and distribution to brand establishment. The company is also marking its commitment to cutting-edge skincare solutions by setting up Skinproof, the only local dermatology research lab in Indonesia. This lab concentrates on rigorous testing of a multitude of global skincare and makeup products to ensure their safety and efficacy.

While Arya Noble’s diverse portfolio spanning manufacturing to consumers has been beneficial, it also presented challenges. The complexity and vast scale of operations also necessitated a robust, agile, and scalable ERP system. However, the legacy system they utilized was not equipped to meet this demand, resulting in operational inefficiencies, poor data traceability, and siloed departments.

An SAP Journey Accelerating Digital Transformation

Yonathan Moniaga, Arya Noble’s Chief Innovation Officer, recollects the moment the company launched a comprehensive digital transformation initiative in 2022. This was intended to bolster its digital presence, improve customer engagement, and streamline internal operations, thereby paving the way for future growth and innovation. The critical decision to adopt RISE with SAP emerged from this initiative at the close of Q3 2023. Moniaga further explains how this move aims to foster predictive manufacturing, aligning perfectly with the Indonesian Government’s nation-building agenda through the ‘Making Indonesia 4.0’ roadmap.

The integration of numerous SAP solutions, including SAP Finance, SAP Controlling, SAP Material Management, and more, is targeted at promoting a more meticulous data exchange between Sales and Finance departments. The SAP journey is designed to improve reporting mechanisms and enhance the visibility of crucial data. Moniaga elucidates that the aim is to implement more efficient book closing procedures and enhance traceability, which will enable insights from downstream to upstream processes within the organization.

RISE with SAP: A Stride Towards Data-Driven Decisions

Moniaga talks about the importance of transitioning to RISE with SAP and how it supports the company’s diverse and expanding portfolio. He emphasizes that their strategy focuses on fostering sustainable growth through automation and data-driven decisions. He expresses optimism as they start to experience the potential of RISE with SAP and the promise it holds for delivering products that accurately meet customer needs.

Andreas Diantoro, SAP Indonesia Managing Director, speaks about the privilege of supporting household brands like Arya Noble in their digital transformation and expansion journey. Diantoro mentions how through RISE with SAP, Arya Noble has the power to make more informed strategic decisions. This promotes predictive manufacturing and information visibility across departments, contributing significantly to Arya Noble’s business growth. He also comments on the meaningful impact this digital transformation will have on the broader healthcare industry in Indonesia.

As Arya Noble steps forward in its SAP journey, it showcases the potential and benefits of integrating advanced technologies into traditional industries. It serves as an exemplar to the healthcare industry and beyond, of how digital transformation can streamline operations, enhance customer experience, and pave the way for future growth and development.

To maximize technological advancements and address an increasing need for efficient business operations, Sumitomo Seika Chemicals Co., Ltd. has recently taken a significant leap. Partnering with IBM Japan Co., Ltd. and SAP Japan Co., Ltd., Sumitomo Seika embarked on a transformative journey, migrating its core business system to the cloud offering RISE with SAP. This strategic move is not just a shift to a new platform; it’s a foundational change aimed at revitalizing and strengthening Sumitomo Seika’s business structure.

SAP’s cloud offering, particularly the SAP S/4HANA Cloud, sits at the heart of this transformation. This initiative is not merely a technical upgrade; it’s a strategic realignment with Sumitomo Seika’s visionary purpose statement: “Using our chemistry to address the challenges facing the earth and human lives.” This encompasses a commitment to sustainability and innovation, aiming to bolster the company’s corporate value sustainably.

Migrating to SAP S/4HANA Cloud: A Strategic Imperative

The decision to migrate to SAP S/4HANA Cloud was influenced by multiple factors. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.) Firstly, the impending maintenance deadline in 2025 for the existing SAP ERP system necessitated a proactive approach. Sumitomo Seika’s choice of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, particularly the private edition, demonstrates a strategic intent to optimize business processes across finance, accounting, production, logistics, and sales.

Secondly, Sumitomo Seika sought to modernize its system infrastructure to be agile and responsive to changing business needs. This meant not only upgrading the core system but also incorporating peripheral systems like extended warehouse management (EWM) and transportation management (TM), ensuring a comprehensive and integrated approach to business operations.

The Role of IBM Japan in the Transformation Journey

IBM Japan played a pivotal role in this transformation. By leveraging their IBM Rapid Move approach, they facilitated a rapid, repeatable, and scalable migration to SAP S/4HANA. This approach maximized the use of existing SAP system assets while paving the way for new business innovations and system integrations.

A key aspect of IBM Japan’s contribution was its expertise in change management. Recognizing the magnitude of this migration, they ensured the penetration of this new mindset right from the project’s inception. This involved a careful balance of maintaining existing processes, integrating new SAP S/4HANA functionalities, and managing the overall change in the organization.

Boosting Efficiency with SAP Cloud Offering

One of the most striking outcomes of this migration has been the significant improvement in efficiency and standardization of business processes. By automating and visualizing management information, Sumitomo Seika has not only streamlined its operations but also laid a foundation for continuous improvement and responsiveness to market changes.

In addition, the integration of Tagetik as a business management platform has been crucial. This tool has enabled Sumitomo Seika to automate the collection and processing of various management-related reports, further enhancing efficiency and standardization from an overall optimization perspective.

The journey doesn’t end with the successful migration to SAP S/4HANA Cloud. Sumitomo Seika, along with IBM Japan, continues to focus on strengthening data linkages and renewing peripheral core systems. This ongoing process of change management is integral to building a robust overall management base for Sumitomo Seika, propelling them towards further growth and innovation.

The collaboration between Sumitomo Seika, IBM Japan, and SAP Japan epitomizes a forward-thinking approach to business process modernization. It’s a testament to how strategic partnerships, powered by cutting-edge technology like SAP’s cloud offering, can drive transformation and set the stage for future success in a rapidly evolving business landscape.

For manufacturing giants like Indonesia’s Sari Murni Group (SMG), the adoption of the SAP business transformation offering RISE with SAP signifies a bold leap into a future where efficiency, agility, and strategic insight are not just goals but realities.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of the manufacturing industry, digital transformation has become more than a buzzword—it’s a necessity. Leading this change in Indonesia, Sari Murni Group (SMG), a renowned snacks manufacturer, is leveraging the power of SAP’s innovative solutions in partnership with SAP Indonesia and IBM Consulting Indonesia. This strategic move marks a significant shift in how manufacturing businesses can optimize operations and drive growth in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Indonesia’s Technological Leap into the Future

Indonesia, a vibrant hub of manufacturing, is embracing technology to bolster its competitive edge in the global market. The ‘Making Indonesia 4.0’ roadmap introduced by the government in 2018 aims to revolutionize seven key manufacturing sectors, including food and beverages, through advancements in AI, automation, cloud computing, and IoT. This initiative underlines the urgent need for manufacturers to adapt to a new digital paradigm, where AI-powered tools reshape customer experiences and operational efficiencies.

For two decades, SMG has been a household name in Indonesia, spreading its reach to over 10 countries. The transition from its legacy ERP systems to a unified, cloud-based ERP solution marks a pivotal moment in SMG’s history. Previously, disparate systems across various departments led to inefficient data reporting and management challenges. With the implementation of RISE with SAP, SMG is not only enhancing its reporting capabilities but also harmonizing business processes and streamlining data processing across its units in West Java and East Java.

The Role of RISE with SAP in Business Transformation

RISE with SAP, a comprehensive business transformation package featuring SAP S/4HANA, is a game-changer for enterprises looking to shift their ERP to the cloud. For SMG, this move has resulted in increased automation of end-to-end business processes, improved inventory, costing, pricing controls, and enhanced monthly financial reporting. With IBM Consulting Indonesia as the implementation partner, SMG is now positioned to further boost employee productivity and customer experience.

Teguh Ilham, Director at Sari Murni, acknowledges the transformative impact of RISE with SAP. This digital overhaul is enabling SMG to increase operational efficiency, improve decision-making processes, and foster in-depth analytical work, thanks to enhanced data visibility and integration.

Andreas Diantoro, Managing Director at SAP Indonesia, emphasizes how SMG’s digitalization journey, powered by cutting-edge technologies, is optimizing business processes and catalyzing development. The integration of AI and cloud computing facilitates precise and actionable data collection across the company, enabling faster strategic decisions that propel growth.

IBM Consulting Indonesia: Pioneering Digital Transformations

IBM Consulting Indonesia also plays a crucial role in this transformation. Deep Bhau, Managing Partner Indonesia at IBM Consulting, highlights their commitment to driving successful digital transformations. By collaborating with SAP, IBM Consulting Indonesia helps SMG unlock new levels of manufacturing efficiency, competitiveness, and productivity, rooted in reliable, responsible, and regulation-compliant technologies.

Sari Murni Group’s journey with RISE with SAP is more than a story of a business upgrading its systems. It’s also a testament to the transformative power of digital innovation in the manufacturing sector. As companies like SMG embrace these changes, they set a benchmark for others to follow, showcasing how technology can not only streamline operations but also open new avenues for growth and competitiveness in the global market. This journey is not just about keeping up with the times; it’s about leading the charge into a future where digitalization is the cornerstone of success in the manufacturing industry.

boAt, an Indian consumer electronics retailer, known for its lifestyle brand of audio accessories and smart devices, has seen remarkable growth over the past two years. The company has doubled its business for two consecutive financial years in 2021 and 2022, attributing this growth to an IT overhaul, utilizing a unique SAP solution that helped in transforming its IT infrastructure.

In order to revamp its IT infrastructure, boAt had three goals in mind including the construction of a stable technology backend to facilitate core processes, prioritizing customer dynamics, and implementing a customer experience management tool. The company also aimed to make technology a key driver in improving both top-line and bottom-line operations.

To overcome the challenges of manual report compilation and lack of real-time visibility, boAt replaced its legacy ERP with SAP S/4HANA Cloud through the RISE with SAP solution. This move enabled them to digitize core business processes and provide a scalable digital foundation. Integration with other tools for data analytics, also allowed boAt to unlock predictive-prescriptive insights.

Navigating the Waves with SAP Solution

In addition to SAP, boAt outsourced tasks to multiple tech partners, such as Google and Shopify, and leveraged Generative AI. This approach allowed the company to avoid unnecessary overheads and focus on core business processes. Partnering with Amplify.ai and Meta also enabled boAt to enhance personalized conversational experiences for its users.

The transition to SAP was not without challenges. Beyond product-related issues, boAt faced change management and data fragmentation. However, with the expertise of Intellect Bizware Services, the new ERP solution was deployed in six months. The benefits soon became apparent, with efficiencies in processes like order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, and record-to-report.

Improved process transparency and faster monthly closing (60% reduction in time) were among the notable improvements. Automated pricing workflows, auditable purchase-order processes, and real-time inventory visibility streamlined operations.

Sailing Forward Through Innovation

boAt’s future plans include expanding its SAP software landscape with applications like SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) and SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM). The intention is to increase transparency and digitize further processes and workflows.

However, there are also challenges ahead, such as limited historical data hindering predictive or prescriptive insights. Despite these challenges, the SAP solution’s strong partner ecosystem and feature set have positioned it as the preferred choice for boAt over competing ERPs.

When it comes to choosing an ERP solution, SAP has proven to be superior to other options for boAt, particularly in the areas of feature functionality, partner support, and long-term cost benefits. While developing an in-house ERP might seem economical initially, maintaining it becomes more expensive over time. SAP’s robust ecosystem and solutions like SAP Extended Warehouse Management and SAP Transportation Management have played a crucial role in their selection.

The SAP solution has indeed been a game-changer for boAt. Through a strategic implementation and partnership approach, they managed to align technology with business needs. The transformation has provided significant benefits and efficiencies, and the company’s plans to further integrate SAP solutions demonstrate a continued commitment to innovation and growth.

boAt’s success story illustrates the power of adaptable and scalable solutions in today’s fast-moving consumer electronics industry. By leveraging SAP, boAt has not only bolstered its existing operations but has also set sail toward a promising future, riding the waves of technological advancement and customer satisfaction.

A strategic partnership has been forged between SAP, a leading enterprise software company globally, and International Packaging Films Limited (IPAK). The core goal of this ambitious alliance is to leverage the power of cloud computing SAP software and migrate IPAK’s entire data ecosystem to the cloud. This operation will primarily employ the innovative S/4HANA Cloud solution—an ERP solution intelligently crafted for cloud computing.

Abacus Consulting, a global partner of SAP known for its expertise and cutting-edge solutions, is another critical player in this transformative alliance. The synergy between the trio—SAP, Abacus Consulting, and IPAK—has been instrumental in reshaping IPAK’s business processes. By employing RISE with SAP, a comprehensive cloud-based toolkit for digital transformation, IPAK’s digital infrastructure has undergone a significant overhaul. This transition has not only been seamless but has also modernized their operations, making them more innovative and efficient.

Within a remarkable timeframe of just six months, Abacus Consulting has managed to deploy the S/4HANA Cloud solution. This swift transition, powered by cloud computing SAP software, has restructured IPAK’s operations. Innovation has been spurred across various business functions such as Total Records, Cash Management, Data Services, Integration Services, and SAP Deployment Services. This strategic move clearly aligns with the current trend among enterprises—the ‘Cloud-First’ approach—which is seen as an effective strategy to hasten the digital transformation.

“RISE with SAP is the best approach, recognized by IPAK leadership, and reflected strongly in their commitment to partnering with world-class leaders to realize their business transformation journey, thus creating great value for all stakeholders,” Abacus Consulting Technology Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Fatima Asad-Said.

Transforming IPAK’s Digital Infrastructure

As the technological landscape evolves at an exponential rate, businesses are compelled to keep pace or risk being left behind. This reality is well understood by the leadership at IPAK Group, who recognize the strategic importance of creating environments conducive to their long-term growth and sustainability. A testament to this commitment is their decision to leverage RISE with SAP, facilitated by cloud computing SAP software, to undergo a digital transformation journey.

Just as a tree reinforces its core roots to withstand storms, businesses need to strengthen their core values to thrive in the dynamic digital era. IPAK’s leadership has demonstrated this principle by successfully adopting RISE with SAP, powered by cloud computing SAP software, as a significant growth catalyst. This strategic move has substantially improved transparency, accountability, and control within IPAK’s business operations, enabling them to efficiently achieve their business objectives.

Cloud Computing Takes a Giant Leap in Pakistan

The partnership between SAP and IPAK marks a significant stage, not only for SAP’s cloud division but also for Pakistan’s burgeoning industry. As stated by Saquib Ahmad, the Managing Director of SAP in Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan, the state-of-the-art cloud solutions provided by SAP are primed to enable IPAK to significantly enhance its controls and improve its service quality. This improvement is achieved by providing seamless, bespoke solutions designed specifically to meet IPAK’s unique requirements.

“This is an important win for SAP cloud computing and a milestone in transforming the industry in Pakistan,” remarked.

In a bid to remain competitive in the digital era, IPAK’s digitalization strategy places substantial emphasis on the adoption and acceleration of cloud technologies, particularly cloud computing SAP software. This strategy has led to several positive outcomes. For one, it has resulted in significant operational efficiencies. Additionally, IPAK has gained access to industry-specific solutions and an Intelligent Automation Platform through their use of RISE with SAP.

The adherence to efficient program execution, following a methodology of defining, measuring, analyzing, improving, and controlling, is a cornerstone of SAP’s approach. This methodology ensures smooth operations and facilitates rapid, flexible implementations—an approach that has been validated through this successful partnership.

India, along with Brazil and Germany, was reported to have remarkable cloud revenues in SAP’s Q1 2023 financial statement.

SAP has been in India for about 27 years– more than half of the global enterprise’s fifty years of existence driving innovation and future-proofing businesses around the world through cutting-edge solutions and services. The country is home to the tech giant’s largest R&D center outside Germany, SAP Labs India, comprised of teams from Bengaluru and Gurgaon that provide services to 450,000 customers worldwide.

On SAP’s outstanding presence in the country, Kulmeet Bawa, President & MD, SAP Indian Subcontinent, said:

“It’s been a very exciting 25 years for SAP because while the Indian economy has grown about 10x in the last 25 years, today, we end up touching more than 60 percent of India’s GDP, just through SAP and its partner ecosystem. I call it the nation-building story for us.”

Riding SAP’s Cloud Momentum

Specific to the German company’s pivot to the cloud, Indian businesses of various sizes and industries’ adoption of SAP’s cloud portfolio of solutions and services have significantly contributed to the enterprise software multinational’s cloud revenues. India’s huge potential and dramatic market growth have been commended by SAP leaders, including CEO Christian Klein, during the in-person flagship event SAP Sapphire in Orlando, Florida.

Thomas Saueressig, Member of the Executive Board of SAP SE for SAP Product Engineering, shared in an interview in Bengaluru that India has been the fastest-growing market in the Asia Pacific and Japan in recent years, doubling its cloud revenues for seven consecutive quarters year-over-year (YOY). He detailed that 70 percent of India’s GDP at some point leverages an SAP system, which demonstrates the impact of the company’s solution offerings in the country.

“So, we see the significance of SAP in India and for sure with that we know that we have an obligation to further help and support in this digital transformation,” stressed Saueressig.

In the Q1 2023 financials of SAP, the company saw a 24 percent YOY growth in cloud revenue at €3.18 billion and up 22 percent at constant currencies. In addition, the Walldorf-based company’s current cloud backlog grew by 25% to €11.15 billion, with a 78% increase in the cloud backlog of SAP S/4HANA. Cloud gross profit rose by 28% (IFRS) to €2.24 billion.

Indian Enterprises Rising with SAP

SAP’s concierge offering RISE with SAP has garnered numerous customers from around the world including India– from big conglomerates to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Bawa earlier shared that SAP in India is contributing 13-15% to SAP’s global RISE business division (Cloud ERP) and has doubled its cloud customers in the recent two years.

Most recently, Air India has joined the roster of SAP cloud customers, such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro Limited, Best Value Chem Private Limited, and HCLTech, that have all migrated their key digital operations to the cloud. In April, India’s leading airline and a Star Alliance member announced that it has completed its ERP migration leveraging RISE with SAP, a Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) offering.

“We are glad to have completed this migration successfully, using a high level of creativity in overcoming the challenges that came our way,” Air India’s Chief Digital and Technology Officer, Dr. Satya Ramaswamy. “We are very grateful to the fantastic team from SAP that worked with us hand-in-hand to execute this transition flawlessly, and ahead of schedule.”

“Air India is one of the most iconic brands in the country, and we’re thrilled to deepen our long-standing partnership, as they enter a new chapter in their journey to become a world-class airline serving global customers, with a proud Indian heart,” Bawa commented. “With SAP’s cutting-edge cloud technology, Air India will enhance its customer experience, become an intelligent, sustainable enterprise, and accelerate people transformation as key elements of its growth,” he added.

As for the latest cloud-native ERP software for SMEs, GROW with SAP, Saueressig mentioned the huge potential in the robust mid-market of India. He highlighted that about 80 percent of SAP customers in the country are mid-size businesses that are anticipated to further drive growth.
