How SAP and Partners Collaborate for Industry Cloud Solutions

The German enterprise software giant’s innovative Industry Cloud solutions that are co-developed by SAP and partners aim to assist organisations in undertaking cost-effective digital transformation while achieving sustainable success in their businesses.

SAP has adopted an open ecosystem strategy, which allows the company to better leverage its innovative capabilities by making them available to its partners. A collaborative and dynamic network of partners, customers, and professionals makes up the SAP partner ecosystem. With this, customers get to choose from a diverse range of resources and providers of software-enabled services and support backed by the tech giant’s partnerships spanning the globe.

At the recently concluded SAP Partner Live digital event, SAP laid out strategic plans to co-innovate intellectual property (IP) and services with its partner ecosystem. The online conference was graced by experts who discussed the ecosystem landscape in 2022 and explored the subjects of future-proofing businesses, as well as capitalising on high-reward opportunities.

In an interview with TechTarget, SAP Senior Vice President (SVP) of Software Partner Solutions Tom Roberts indicated that partner IP occurs in a variety of forms. One of these is the IP integration technique, in which a partner develops a product that links to SAP technologies. He went on to explain that in this case, SAP and partners collaborate to develop the integration component that lies between SAP and the partner’s IP. Roberts added that the SAP Integration Suite — which is part of the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) — is used to achieve this.

Furthermore, another form of IP comes from the work done by third parties leveraging SAP BTP. Roberts contrasted this to other partner companies specialising in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or hyperscaler cloud providers that build solutions running on other platforms. According to him, the main distinction is that SAP BTP is tailored to SAP solutions and it provides access to tools like the SAP Integration Suite.

Developing Industry Cloud Solutions with SAP and Partners

It is also worth noting that the SAP Industry Cloud portfolio is one good example where SAP platforms and services integrate with partner IP. As per SAP, partners will provide 80{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} of the intellectual property for Industry Cloud, with the German tech giant contributing the remaining 20{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22}. Meanwhile, partners believe that industry clouds — which bring cloud technology to specific industry sectors — necessitate innovative collaboration in order to succeed.

Moreover, Roberts also stated that privately-held technology consulting company BearingPoint is among the numerous partners who have built offerings that integrate with SAP Industry Cloud. SAP’s sustainability solutions and BearingPoint’s extensive experience with emission calculations in the industry will be integrated as part of the two companies’ partnership to develop a new approach to monitor and optimise a product’s environmental footprint throughout its entire lifecycle.

“It is an example of where a partner that would normally contribute its IP in the form of an engagement is now doing that in codified IP that’s coming across as a solution,” he further shared.

Last month, NTT DATA Business Solutions, which dubs itself as the global IT and SAP Partner for Japanese multinational corporations, also announced that its it.calibration offering has been added to SAP’s Industry Cloud solutions portfolio. As a certified application on the SAP Store, the company’s solution now has the global reach to assist organisations in the life sciences sector in modernising their device calibration procedures with a validated offering from a trusted SAP Partner. According to SAP Life Science Global Vice President Mandar Paralkar, industry cloud partner apps that are running on SAP BTP complement the company’s intelligent suite features to achieve meaningful business outcomes.
