SAP CEO Christian Klein, a leading figure in enterprise technology and cloud solutions worldwide, has recently expressed his profound optimism regarding India’s growth prospects and potential. During an interview with Business Today, Klein elaborated on India’s emerging prominence in the global economic landscape, the role of evolving technologies, and SAP’s strategic plans to back India’s journey towards digital transformation.

In the modern-day world characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA), Klein displays impressive optimism. His keen focus on India’s future prospects is particularly noteworthy. His recent diplomatic visit with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to India was a testament to this, underscoring the enormous potential for innovative technology to catalyze transformation across various sectors – from renewable energy and mobility services to small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Klein gave credit to India’s ambitious goals towards sustainability and decarbonization, highlighting the critical part that technology could play in this journey. He spoke of SAP’s Green Ledger, a powerful tool for tracking greenhouse gas emissions throughout supply chains, as one such potential solution. In contrast to common worries about potentially shrinking IT budgets, Klein argued that there is a distinct inclination towards increased investment, particularly within the Indian market.

India’s Role in the Next Phase of Globalization

Regarding India’s role in the forthcoming phase of globalization, Klein’s optimism remains strong, even amidst growing geopolitical tensions worldwide. He pointed out how India, with its rich talent pool and welcoming investment climate, is becoming increasingly popular among global CEOs and investors. Klein believes that India’s unique blend of required infrastructure, forward-thinking government vision, and sustainability initiatives make it an appealing investment destination.

“What companies are looking for is a market where you have great talent and an environment to invest. You have to have the infrastructure, and the government needs to have a vision when it comes to sustainability, making it easier for companies to invest. And when you look at all of that, I feel India will be the winner because a lot of companies are choosing to invest in countries where they see all of these, to be successful in the future,” he remarked.

Klein candidly acknowledged the transformation that has taken place within SAP’s own operations, transitioning from being primarily an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software company to a cloud-focused organization. Looking ahead, he foresees Generative AI playing a significant role in aiding businesses with intelligent recommendations and informed decision-making, leading to better overall business management.

SAP CEO Christian Klein Discusses Future Strategies

According to Klein, SAP’s future technological direction aligns well with India’s commercial demands. He mentioned the potential of the SAP Business Network to revolutionize operations and cited a growing demand for technology in industries such as automobile manufacturing and retail. He highlighted how SAP’s solutions could support Indian farmers, making agricultural processes more sustainable and efficient.

Klein considers India a vital market for SAP, noting the vast talent pool, the significant number of SMEs, and the broad partner ecosystem. He stressed the need for further investments in education and skill development to propel India’s future growth.

His meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi left him particularly impressed with the government’s commitment to digital transformation and using technology as a lever for economic growth. Their discussions touched on a range of topics from digitizing railways to promoting green energy transitions and enabling SMEs to digitize their operations and thrive.

Concluding the interview on an optimistic note, Klein showed confidence in India’s future and its attractiveness as an investment destination. As SAP CEO Christian Klein sees it, he’s betting on India’s growth, development, and increasing global influence. He stands committed to ensuring that SAP continues to be a key player in this promising narrative, thus reaffirming his belief that India is a clear winner in the next phase of globalization.

The leading global enterprise software company recently announced that several SAP executives in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region have taken on new roles. These organizational changes were implemented to enhance SAP’s presence in the APJ area, as well as drive growth across this important geographical region.

According to the press release, the newly appointed SAP executives bring with them a wealth of industry experience and expertise, which will help solidify the tech giant’s position in APJ as a leader in enterprise software solutions. In particular, these appointments are expected to support innovation and collaboration between SAP customers and partners throughout the region. Additionally, they will provide strategic direction for sales operations and customer engagement initiatives designed to increase revenue opportunities throughout APJ.

Peter Moore will be taking on the role of Head of Enterprise Cloud at SAP APJ; Sushant Jain is assuming responsibility as Head of Spend Management at SAP APJ; and Liher Urbizu has been named Chief Operating Officer for the same region. This trio brings an abundance of experience and knowledge to bolster SAP’s presence in the Asia Pacific and Japan area.

Accelerating Growth with SAP Executives

For the past decade, Moore has held multiple positions within SAP and is now at the helm of Enterprise Cloud APJ. This newly-constructed organization encompasses RISE with SAP S/4 HANA Cloud, SAP Business Technology Platform, and SAP Customer Experience companies. This amalgamation will allow customers and partners to reap greater value from their engagement with the German tech giant as it continues to rapidly progress its cloud transformation journey.

Meanwhile, Jain also has an extensive career at SAP, having served in a variety of positions over the last 11 years. Now, as Head of Spend Management APJ (Asia Pacific and Japan), Jain is looking to combine the Intelligent Spend Business Network (ISBN) and SAP Concur organizations to provide customers with a more reliable, resilient, and sustainable cloud-first networked enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution. This integration will allow customers to benefit from increased transparency when it comes to their business operations.

Reporting to SAP APJ President Paul Marriott, Moore and Jain have recently joined Angela Colantuono who was appointed Head of Human Experience Management APJ in July last year. They will be leading an integrated organization that spans across SAP’s most successful lines of business. Together they are tasked with driving the growth of the company while providing a human-centric focus on customer experience throughout the entire region.

Expanding the SAP Business in APJ

On the other hand, Urbizu has been appointed to the position of Chief Operating Officer for APJ, based in Singapore. He brings a wealth of experience to this role, having previously served as Global Head of Partner Success Services for SAP. In this capacity, he will oversee all aspects of operations in the Asia-Pacific region and support the organization’s strategic objectives. With his expertise and knowledge, Liher is well-placed to help guide APJ towards success in the future.

For more than two decades, Urbizu has been an integral part of the SAP landscape. During his career, he has held a variety of positions in places such as India, Japan, Thailand, and Singapore. His experience with SAP solutions has enabled him to gain insights into how they can be applied in various contexts and geographic locations. As Chief Operating Officer, Urbizu will assume the responsibility of leading a regional team with the intention to successfully carry out strategy across APJ, while keeping an uncompromising emphasis on giving customers and partners a lasting benefit.

Commenting on the significant milestone for SAP APJ, Marriott stated that customers seek for high-value, streamlined, and simplified engagement and that it is crucial that the company continues to transform to fulfill this requirement. He further added:

“The expertise and absolute commitment to customer success that Peter, Sushant, Angela, and Liher bring to their leadership positions is extraordinary. This strategic focus advances SAP’s commitment to empowering Asia’s sustainable future, driving our customers’ business agility, flexibility, and innovation to support growth in a highly competitive market.”

The newly appointed SAP Malaysia Sdn Bhd intends to continue the momentum of the tech giant’s cloud growth in the country and spearhead local customers’ journey to becoming intelligent, sustainable enterprises.

A new leader to take the helm of SAP Malaysia has been announced today by German software multinational SAP. Saqib Sabah, former Chief Operating Officer of SAP Pakistan, is taking the Managing Director role in SAP Malaysia Sdn Bhd to further drive digital transformation in line with the accelerating cloud adoption and digital economy in the country.

Sabah’s new role follows after SAP’s consecutive leadership announcements in the past weeks anchored on helping the organization, its partners, and customers thrive in the new era– from the nomination of Punit Renjen as a new member of the Supervisory Board and as the designated successor to the current Chairman, Professor Dr. Hasso Plattner, to the appointment of Ryan Poggi as Managing Director of SAP UK & Ireland. In the latter part of 2022, several SAP leaders were also given new roles including the appointment of Dr. Carl Jones as SAP Concur South East Asia (SEA) Managing Director, Rudy Abrahams as Managing Director of SAP Philippines, Dominik Asam as the new SAP Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and SAP Executive Board Member, replacing Luka Mucic, and Lloyd Adams as SAP North America President.

New MD to Continue on the Commitment of SAP Malaysia Sdn Bhd

In July 2022, a national strategic initiative to accelerate the growth of the country’s digital economy for the benefit of Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) was launched by Prime Minister YAB Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob. Dubbed Malaysia Digital, the initiative is driven by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) through Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). The latest initiative aims to attract and encourage companies, talents, and investment to boost local businesses and bring the Rakyat (citizens) as a key player in the global digital economy.

Through the years, SAP Malaysia has been one of the technology companies supporting the nation’s digital transformation efforts, especially for the SMEs. Most recently, the enterprise software company forged a strategic alliance with leading digital transformation solutions firm UST and another global tech corporation Intel to launch a Customer Experience hub leveraging a local UST Innovation Lab to develop custom-built, innovative solutions for Malaysian enterprises in the Industry 4.0 era. Currently, SAP Malaysia caters to about 1500 customers from across 25 industries, including Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), Johor Corporation, and PXL Marketing Sdn Bhd which have adopted the RISE with SAP offering

Now, under the new MD Sabah, SAP Malaysia is determined to continue its support to the country’s advancing digital economy and national transformation objectives according to Verena Siow, President and Managing Director, SAP South East Asia. She said:

“As one of the market leaders in enterprise application software, SAP is committed to help empower our customers and partners to become sustainable, intelligent, and networked enterprises to run at their best. We are proud to have Saqib join us in SAP Malaysia to contribute to driving sustainable success in the cloud, meaningful change, and digital inclusivity to aid in spurring the goal for national competitiveness for all Malaysians.”

Commenting on the country’s progress, Sabah shared:

“I am extremely passionate about Malaysia’s growth and am a firm believer that technology is one of the keys for Malaysia to realize its aspirations of becoming a high-income nation.”

“During and post-pandemic, it has been demonstrated how critical digital technologies are, such as cloud and artificial intelligence (AI), for business continuity and to thrive amid uncertain times. In Malaysia, we have seen more businesses adopting cloud technologies to remain competitive and ensure that they adhere to the demands of their end-user customers,” he added.

Sabah also expressed appreciation of the government’s national strategy, Malaysia Digital.

As the new MD of SAP Malaysia, Sabah will lead the company in enabling Malaysian organizations and communities to embark on today’s pressing challenges, including business transformation in the cloud, creating a resilient supply chain network, and driving a sustainable future.

Newly appointed SAP Concur South East Asia (SEA) Managing Director Dr Carl Jones will be responsible for coordinating the efforts of a global, cross-functional SAP team that includes representatives from sales, pre-sales, customer success, and cloud channel partnerships.

Last May, Dr Carl Jones — who was then the Regional Vice President and Head of Strategy at SAP Concur Asia Pacific (APAC) and Greater China — has been selected as Vice Chair of the Global Business Travel Association’s (GBTA) Global Sustainability Committee to supervise the region’s interest in developing strategies and solutions for sustainability performance in business travel. Dr Jones has over two decades of experience in the travel and payments market and has served in senior positions in several APAC countries such as Singapore and Thailand. His GBTA appointment further strengthens SAP and SAP Concur’s roles as market leaders in supporting organizations in incorporating sustainability into their business travel.

In his new role as SAP Concur SEA MD, Dr Jones’ responsibilities will include managing multiple business units in the market and operational support networks to improve sales processes, product pricing policies, and value propositions. In addition to this, he will represent SAP Concur on strategic initiatives such as Climate 21, which is the German software giant’s corporate effort and well-known global sustainability program aimed at building analytical and transactional capabilities into foundational enterprise applications to assist customers in better understanding and reducing the impact of their carbon footprints.

Commenting on his latest appointment, Dr Jones said in a statement:

“It is an exciting time to be leading SAP Concur efforts in SEA to engage businesses in transforming corporate travel, spend management, and employee experience while striving to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals.”

Moreover, Dr Jones believes that the present time is crucial for the development of more sustainable business practices, as it marks a shift in emphasis from restricted concerns about corporate travel to those that affect the industry as a whole. His statement comes after a recent survey found that 81% of Malaysian companies take environmental impact into account when planning business trips.

“The research findings represent a significant departure from the pre-pandemic days where Malaysian organizations were more concerned about travel cost savings than the environmental impact of their actions,” he explained.

Leading the SAP Concur Team in South East Asia

From January 2018 until May 2021, Dr Jones served as SAP Concur’s Vice President and Head of Travel for APAC. In this role, he was responsible for the commercial development of the company’s product line and ecosystem for its corporate travel range, including gaining a better understanding of customer needs, integrating cutting-edge technologies, and collaborating with key suppliers across Asia and Greater China.

As previously mentioned, he also held the position of Regional Vice President and Head of Strategy at SAP Concur APAC and Greater China from May 2021 to August 2022. In this role, he oversaw the development and alignment of the company’s regional strategic projects in cooperation with all market units throughout Asia, from Korea and China to India and SEA and Australia, as well as within the SAP Cloud Services organization. Together with other major expenditure and financial partners (banks and financial technology providers, among others), he supervised the FSI Enterprise strategy for APAC and helped propel the region’s business growth.

Sharing his thoughts about Dr Jones’ appointment as the new SAP Concur SEA MD, Matt Goss, Senior Vice President and General Manager of SAP Concur for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) and Greater China, stated that Dr Jones’ leadership and established experience will enable the team to achieve great success. According to Goss, he has “full confidence” that the SAP Concur SEA business will continue to expand significantly in the region and become a trusted partner to clients as they search for new methods to increase efficiency, maximize visibility, and improve control.

With 27 years of history, SAP Philippines Inc has been a major player in the country’s tech industry and newly appointed Rudy Abrahams is looking to build on that success.

For more than twenty years, both local and multinational companies have been using SAP Philippines’ comprehensive business technologies to streamline their complex daily operations and compete effectively in their respective markets. In addition to enterprise software, the tech giant also offers a wide range of cloud-based solutions that can help businesses increase agility and drive down costs.

SAP’s Philippine operations was established in 1995, and the company has since been providing solutions and services to conglomerates and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) alike across many industry verticals, including banking, real estate, energy, and IT. This continued presence has strengthened the enterprise software company’s position in the country. In 2020, the Top Employers Institute has named SAP Philippines a Top Employer for fostering outstanding people practices and providing an exceptional working environment for employees.

Furthermore, the company is driven by a customer-centric and innovative approach to digital transformation, which has recently been furthered by the appointment of Rudy Abrahams as Managing Director. In this role, Abrahams will be responsible for leading the business and spearheading its growth strategy in the country. This continued focus on driving digital transformation will enable SAP Philippines to remain at the forefront of innovation and continue to provide value to its customers.

Rudy Abrahams Appointed as MD of SAP Philippines Inc

Abrahams has extensive ICT experience in both the public and private sector, with a particular focus on large-scale digital transformation. His leadership style is people-centric, and he has a proven track record of success in his previous roles. Most recently, he served as the Vice President and Head of SuccessFactors for SAP South East Asia (SAP SEA).

Moreover, Abraham’s primary focus as the new SAP Philippines MD will be on helping customers, partners, and communities address some of the most pressing issues they face. This includes spearheading business transformation in the cloud, shoring up supply chain resilience, and working towards a sustainable future.

Additionally, Abrahams will be directly reporting SAP SAP SEA President and Managing Director Verena Siow. This change is effective immediately and follows SAP’s recent organizational changes in the region. Commenting on the latest announcement, Siow said in a statement:

“I am thrilled that Rudy Abrahams will bring both his leadership and deep experience in business transformation to SAP Philippines. His exceptional track record and passion for helping our customers, partners and communities run better, will be instrumental in supporting the Philippines and South East Asia’s digital economy and growth.”

Accelerating the Adoption of SAP Technologies

Over the past two years, it has become increasingly clear how important digital technologies like cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) are for business continuity and success in uncertain times. In the Philippines, more and more organizations are embracing cloud solutions and services in order to stay competitive, as well as meet the needs of their end-user customers.

Cloud adoption allows businesses to quickly adapt to changing customer needs and provides the scalability needed to respond to spikes in demand. Additionally, AI can help businesses automate tasks, identify new patterns and insights from data, and improve customer engagement.

“At SAP, we aspire to be a trusted technology partner that can enable more organizations in the country to transform into intelligent, sustainable enterprises. Above all—collectively with our customers and partners—we aim to make a profound and unique impact on sustainability,” Abrahams remarked.

According to Abrahams, SAP is a people-centric organization with a primary focus on the professional and personal growth of its employees. He also mentioned that the organization uses SAP technology to ensure that inclusive practices are built into every step of the process. He added:

“We know enterprises in the Philippines have also been pushing for workplace equality, policies, and education. So, I look forward to sharing best practices and ideas with our partners and customers in this area.”
