SAP pre-announces 2020 fourth quarter and full-year financial results. The SAP business preliminary figures reveal growing profit and healthy cash flow.

The announcement also shows that the business solutions provider continues to gain momentum with its cloud-first business model. Led by CEO Christian Klein, the company has been working to accelerate efforts to move customers from license-based software to its newer cloud products.

The preliminary financial results show SAP’s cloud revenues rose 7{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} (non-IFRS basis) to 2.04 billion euros.

Klein comments:

“The world’s leading companies are turning to SAP to become intelligent enterprises. We are reinventing how businesses run by accelerating our customers’ transformation in the cloud. Our strong finish to the year and the upcoming launch of our new holistic business transformation offering position us well to meet our new outlook targets.”

Q4 and Full-Year SAP Business Performance

The German multinational company merits its cloud business’ strong finish for the fourth quarter to:

  • continued high demand for e-commerce, Business Technology Platform, and Qualtrics XM (experience management) solutions
  • several competitive wins for SAP SuccessFactors Human Experience Management
  • strong early take-up of its new holistic business transformation offering among pilot customers (SAP will hold a virtual event to launch the new offering on January 27)
  • better-than-expected business performance at SAP North America and SAP Europe in cloud order entry and software licenses revenue
  • significant competitive wins in SAP ERP

In addition, SAP’s operating profit rose 3{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} in constant currency and operating margin increased by 1.5 percentage points—leading to a full-year operating profit that hit the high end of the company’s revised outlook range.

SAP expects its operating cash flow for the full year to be at around 7.0 billion euros (8.4 billion USD), approximately doubling year-over-year. SAP’s free cash flow is also expected to land around 5.9 billion euros (7.1 billion USD)—significantly above the raised outlook of above 4.5 billion euros (5.4 billion USD). Per SAP’s report, cash flow was positively impacted by lower tax and restructuring payments and a successful working capital management.

SAP CFO, Luka Mucic, said:

“Our better-than-anticipated top-line performance combined with our quick response on the cost side drove strong operating profit. SAP’s expedited shift to the cloud will drive long-term, sustainable growth while significantly increasing the resiliency and predictability of our business.”

2021 Outlook

The SAP business outlook for 2021 assumes that the current COVID-19 global crisis will begin to recede as global vaccine programs roll out, which is presumed to improve business demand in the second half of the year.

According to the company’s business outlook statement, the company is guiding to 9.1 to 9.5 billion euros (10.9 to 11.4 billion USD) in cloud revenue (up 13-18{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} in constant currency). Meanwhile, 2021 total cloud and software revenue is expected to be as much as 23.8 billion euros (28.7 billion USD) at constant currencies.

Hours following SAP’s pre-announcement of its fourth quarter and full-year financial results on Thursday, January 14, SAP has risen 2.7{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} in early trading.

According to SAP, the company’s Q4 2020 financial statement will be published on January 29, 2021.

SAP 1BL (One Billion Lives) is SAP’s CSR initiative that endeavours to improve one billion lives by helping solve some of the world’s biggest social and environmental problems. Under the CSR initiative, SAP runs a social intrapreneurship program—dubbed ‘SAP 1BL Ventures’—where SAP global employees are granted the opportunity, time, technology and mentorship they need to turn their passion for making a difference into sustainable, income-generating ventures.

SAP 1BL Ventures—launched in 2018 in parallel with SAP’s business strategy—was first developed at SAP APJ under Adaire Fox-Martin’s leadership. The SAP Executive Board Member (who is reportedly departing the company at the end of the month) explains SAP 1BL’s purpose:

“Despite the challenges in today’s world, I believe humans are inherently good. This program gives SAP employees an opportunity to live large, and demonstrate that faith in humanity.”

The SAP 1BL Ventures program cultivates social intrapreneurs by offering the stability of an established business and the speed and innovative thinking of a startup.

A look at SAP Global 1BL Ventures

According to Deb Kaplan, head of SAP 1BL, the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 has provided greater motivation for SAP global teams to develop social and environmental solutions. Kaplan comments:

“This year’s teams have been put to the test to solve social and environmental problems focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and COVID-19 in a fully virtual environment. With a global pandemic displacing many teams from one another due to lockdowns and quarantines, these teams continued to push themselves to find new ways to work together, solve problems, communicate more effectively, and complete the journey that they started and refused to give up on.”

Over 2,000 SAP global employees participated in the 2020 SAP 1BL program. In this article, we’ll look at teams that presented the most developed and impactful social innovation ideas focused on addressing the growing issue of unemployment.

Social Recruitment

The SAP 1BL Japan team found a solution that proposes to solve Japan’s poverty issues by helping disadvantaged citizens find work through a customizable digital job-matching platform.

Led by SAP Value Advisor Expert Satoru Ota, the team worked with SAP Fieldglass and came up with ‘Social Recruitment Platform.’ The team is also working with Grameen Nippon to further develop the solution.

According to Ota, in the future, their team hopes to roll out the solution globally to poverty-stricken areas. Moreover, Ota aspires to use the venture to also help professionals whose industries may offer poorer visibility into open positions (such as artists and independent contractors).

Athena

Team Athena from SAP China hopes to create ways to improve differently-abled people’ lives through meaningful employment. The team collaborated with Taicang Inclusion Factory to build and deploy an intelligent production planning application. They are also working to develop more intelligent tools to help recruiters effectively find differently-abled individuals and also support individuals in overcoming personal barriers.

Jason Sun, a principal support engineer with SAP China, explained:

“We hope to really help these people improve their lives in every way.”

Sebenza

The Sebenza team decided to create a mobile-first job search approach to help blue-collar workers who still struggle to find available employment opportunities, especially with the challenges created by the current global pandemic. Through its partnership with the Southern Caribbean Islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the team was able to engage IT students on the islands and identify ministries within the country with which they could further partner with.

xSuite Asia Pte. Ltd. (xSuite Asia) has been certified by the Singapore government’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) as a PEPPOL-Ready e-invoicing system.

PEPPOL, which stands for Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line, is an electronic data interchange (EDI) protocol, designed to simplify the purchase-to-pay process. IMDA is the PEPPOL Authority in Singapore and is responsible for approving and certifying Access Point (AP) providers in the country.

The PEPPOL-certified xSuite e-invoicing system provides SAP users in Singapore two key benefits. First, it allows companies using xSuite to send, receive and correctly display electronic invoices in accordance with IMDA standards. Second, the accounts payable solution now supports sending and receiving electronic invoices in InvoiceNow format.

According to a report, the xSuite solution ensures SAP-integrated, automated processing of incoming invoices and is geared toward Singaporean enterprises that use SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA.

E-Invoicing System in Singapore

In Singapore, using an e-invoicing system for payments processing is encouraged. IMDA is promoting the use of e-invoices by working with industries to implement the nationwide e-invoicing system with InvoiceNow—the leading format in Singapore for EDI based on the PEPPOL standards.

InvoiceNow allows the direct transmission of invoices in structured digital format from one finance system to another using the Nationwide E-delivery network based on XML-based syntaxes that are used in e-invoices.

According to IMDA, unlike PDF invoices sent by email, an e-invoice in InvoiceNow format is completely generated, transmitted and processed digitally with little to no manual processing, enabling businesses to:

  • enhance digital efficiencies
  • reduce costs
  • enjoy faster payment cycles and better cash flow for suppliers
  • access new financing options
  • build a strong foundation for digitalization
PEPPOL Access Point

Using InvoiceNow requires a PEPPOL Access Point, which xSuite Asia operates together with leading telecommunications company, Starhub.

According to xSuite, the company together with Starhub and IMDA are offering free webinars to provide information about InvoiceNow and its transmission. A recording of the latest webinar can be viewed at xSuite Asia’s website.

Mindset Consulting adds new locations in India. The SAP partner has launched ‘Mindset Experience India Private Limited’ in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

According to Mindset Consulting, the addition of the Indian subsidiary is part of its ongoing vision of becoming the industry leader in SAP design and development. The firm expects the new offices in Bengaluru and Hyderabad to further build strong SAP capabilities in the region.

Former SAP Director to Lead Mindset Consulting in India

The Bengaluru and Hyderabad teams will be led by Parvathy Sankar, who joined Mindset Consulting as the Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) region’s Managing Director and Vice President of Product Strategy last August 2020.

Sankar is the former Senior Director for Strategic Projects in SAP S/4HANA Product Management and Co-innovation, where she drove adoption and led strategic projects for SAP’s flagship ERP (enterprise resource planning) product. She also led several other projects in various roles at SAP in research and development, human resources, and industry solution and product management.

Sankar holds an MBA degree from IMD International Switzerland and is an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy. According to a press release, these, combined with her 21+ years of experience with SAP, will ensure the successful growth of Mindset Consulting’s portfolio with the new Indian subsidiary as one of its key players.

Sankar comments:

“After months of laying the groundwork, it is very exciting to finally welcome our teams and share the news of the start of Mindset operations in India. We start with a strong team that we plan to quadruple over the midterm. It’s a testimony to Mindset’s culture that all employees from our long term partner, Quality Ideas CyberTech Private Limited will join us as we start our journey in India. The Mindset team in India will be a seamless part of the US Headquarters, focusing on driving the value-added products of Mindset. We will, from India, bring Mindset’s state-of-art philosophy of design-centric and experience-based solutions to SAP customers around the world.”

Mindset CEO, Gavin Quinn also explains how the expansion to India will help boost the firm’s success as an SAP partner of choice for global customers:

“Our expansion to India will help Mindset in achieving three key objectives. First, it will provide greater global scale to our growing SAP S/4HANA practice. Next, it allows us to build a comprehensive world-class team in India that will provide end-to-end capabilities rather than simply being an offshore implementation and delivery wing. Finally, it will position us to better expand our business capabilities for our Asia Pacific customers.”

TMC Life Sciences’ flagship hospital Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara (THKD) in Malaysia selects SAP for Healthcare solutions to accelerate its digital transformation

The SAP for Healthcare project was initiated in November 2020 and is expected to be completed in 2023. The digital transformation strategy aims to enable THKD to enhance patient experience and patient safety with innovative healthcare solutions.

Furthermore, according to TMC Life Sciences CEO Nadiah Wan, the implementation of the new SAP ERP system will support the company’s expansion program, which includes increasing THKD’s physical capacity to 600 beds, 12 operating theatres, 154 outpatient specialist clinics, and an integrated cancer and nuclear medicine center.

 Wan explains,

“When we embarked on this expansion program to add 400 beds, we decided to future-proof our offerings and embark on a digital transformation that would support our vision to provide patient-centered services and integrated, value-based healthcare.”

The healthcare company has chosen T-Systems Singapore for the SAP systems deployment. According to Wan, the company chose the digital services provider for its proven track record of implementing SAP for Healthcare solutions in Southeast Asia.

Arkadiusz Czopor, managing director at T-Systems Asia South, says that the SAP-based patient care management system provides the scalability THKD needs to expand its footprint in the future.

SAP for Healthcare Solutions

T-Systems Singapore will implement SAP for Healthcare solutions SAP Patient Management and the SAP Cerner i.s.h.med.

According to T-Systems Singapore, the new SAP ERP system will feature a real-time dashboard that will equip THKD employees to:

  • access medical records remotely
  • effectively manage patient experience
  • facilitate billing processes
  • efficiently manage schedules, hospital equipment needs, and supplies

Andy David, healthcare director at T-Systems, said:

“Once the migration is completed, patients can receive their hospital bills within minutes instead of hours, which is a huge bonus to enhancing patient experience with THKD. Moreover, hospital staff can easily manage schedules, hospital equipment needs and supplies without consulting multiple sources, which results in bolstering the quality-of-care THKD can deliver for patients.”

Inside SAP Asia was invited to attend the press conference held by NTT Corporation and SAP announcing the formation of their expanded strategic alliance that creates a holistic partnership, in which both companies serve as each other’s customers, suppliers, and co-innovators.

The deepened relationship between the two global business solutions providers aims to create a new era of digitally connected global value chains and deliver automated business solutions to support a remote and connected world.

The unprecedented emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted societies all over the world to transform digitally in a short period of time. With the massive challenges the pandemic has created, businesses, governments, and communities have had to adapt and utilize technologies in new ways to ensure continuity and keep economies running smoothly.

NTT Corporation and SAP have been supporting the needs of business enterprises and driving customer success for over 30 years. The two companies share a common vision around solving not only business problems but also social challenges and improving people’s lives. According to the two companies, their newly expanded alliance will bring innovative value chain solutions to help support a wholly digitalized society and increase business resiliency and agility, especially during this time.

“By combining both our companies’ global reach and scale, we truly can turn some of the world’s biggest challenges into our greatest opportunities. Both we at SAP and NTT are deeply committed to supporting companies with their digital transformation, which is more relevant today than ever before.”

“We want to go with the best, and NTT is one of the best partners in our ecosystem. We have many projects together at a global scale in over 80 countries worldwide, and this is the reach that SAP needs. Together, we can make the holistic transformation work.”

NTT Corporation and SAP: Connecting Global Value Chains

NTT and SAP’s joint value chain solutions will bring together the best of SAP’s intelligent technologies—such as IoT, edge computing, and machine learning—with NTT’s industry-leading suite of information and communications technology (ICT) and hybrid cloud capabilities worldwide.

According to Klein, they have already developed solutions for five use-cases in the supply chain management space. He points out that NTT and SAP’s co-innovated value chain solutions will help support:
