Sinar Mas, a leading Indonesian conglomerate, has selected RISE with SAP to drive operational efficiencies and leverage the latest innovations, including Business AI. This strategic decision highlights the RISE with SAP benefits that companies can harness to streamline their operations, boost agility, and future-proof their organizations in the rapidly evolving business landscape.

Sinar Mas, one of SAP’s first customers in Indonesia, is taking a phased approach to its digital transformation. Initially, five of its businesses will migrate to the cloud with RISE with SAP, a comprehensive business transformation offering that includes cloud solutions, infrastructure, and services. By moving from an on-premise system to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Sinar Mas aims to create a clean digital core that will enable faster innovation, improved scalability, and enhanced agility.

Sinar Mas’s strategic decision to embrace RISE with SAP benefits underscores the growing importance of digital transformation in today’s business landscape. By leveraging the cloud and AI capabilities offered by SAP, Sinar Mas is positioning itself to drive operational efficiencies, foster innovation, and adapt to the evolving needs of its customers. A groundbreaking shift in budget management is helping Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. enhance efficiency and streamline operations on a global scale. With guidance from PwC Consulting and SAP Japan, Yamaha Motor has embraced SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (SAP BPC), a system that forms an integral part of its bold digital transformation (DX) strategy.

In 2019, Yamaha Motor made a noteworthy decision to adopt SAP products as the foundational pillar of its DX strategy. Recognized as a global standard, these products have played an instrumental role in Yamaha Motor’s digital reforms. The goal? To further standardize and streamline operations across the world, thereby fostering a culture of data-driven management.

The specific product at the heart of this strategy is SAP BPC. This solution has also been operationalized globally, marking a departure from Yamaha Motor’s traditional cumulative budget process. Now, both the head office management team and the head office business division heads formulate management or business scenarios. Additionally, these scenarios form the basis upon which future budget targets are set, creating a significantly more streamlined and efficient KPI commitment-based budget process.

Collaborating with PwC Consulting and SAP Japan

PwC Consulting and SAP Japan have also been instrumental in facilitating Yamaha Motor’s remarkable shift. As two highly experienced entities, they have provided invaluable guidance in the implementation of SAP BPC, leveraging their deep expertise and tried-and-tested methodologies. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

With a proven record in supporting SAP BPC implementations in Japan and globally, PwC Consulting has been a key player in making Yamaha Motor’s shift to SAP BPC a reality. From aiding in the design and implementation of new budget systems and KPIs to solving challenges related to speed, visualization, and accuracy, PwC Consulting has been integral throughout the process. The consulting firm has also addressed issues with individually optimized operations and systems, resulting in new standard operations and systems that are deployed not only by Yamaha Motor but globally.

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation: A Springboard for Yamaha Motor’s Future

Moreover, Yamaha Motor’s adoption of SAP Business Planning and Consolidation is not perceived simply as a current project but as a crucial stepping-stone towards fulfilling its long-term vision. Drawing on the theme of “Using simplicity to make Yamaha Motor stronger,” the company is building upon its new management foundation by emphasizing digital marketing, aggressive development of connected products, and customer-centric business practices.

Armed with a robust R&D system specializing in digital technology, Yamaha Motor is also in a prime position to co-create with society and customers, thereby shaping the future. The ultimate goal? To accomplish the company’s long-term vision for 2030 – “ART for Human Possibilities” – and create a happier world.

In conclusion, Yamaha Motor’s transformation, underpinned by the SAP Business Planning and Consolidation system, symbolizes the company’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in a digital age. With the support of PwC Consulting and SAP Japan, Yamaha Motor is poised to accelerate its global operations, standardize processes, and realize its visionary goals. In the digital world, there are few partnerships as enduring and impactful as that between SAP, the global leader in enterprise software and services, and Infosys, a prominent figure in next-generation digital services and consulting. As they celebrate the impressive milestone of a 25-year alliance, the SAP-Infosys partnership stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in driving digital transformation and creating sustainable business value.

Established in 1972, SAP (Systems, Applications & Products in Data Processing) has consistently held its place as one of the world’s leading providers of enterprise software applications used to manage business operations and customer relations. Infosys, on the other hand, since its formation in 1981, has distinguished itself as a powerhouse in digital services and consulting. The two titans came together in a partnership 25 years ago and have since been developing innovative solutions using Infosys Cobalt and SAP’s extensive collection of cloud applications.

Infosys, armed with its decades of digital transformation expertise, specialist consulting, and an array of cloud solutions, has served as a perfect complement to SAP’s formidable software solutions. Together, they have managed to create revolutionary industry cloud solutions, such as personalized medicine, clinical trial supply management for Life Sciences, leads and proposal management for professional services, demand sensing for CPG, enhanced customer experience, and sustainable sales and operations planning. These initiatives have transformed businesses across various sectors, further solidifying the role of the SAP-Infosys partnership in the global corporate landscape.

A recent study by Infosys stresses the crucial role of cloud technology and artificial intelligence in realizing strategic business goals. To this end, Infosys, with its AI-first offering, Infosys Topaz, enables businesses to accelerate their SAP S/4HANA cloud-enabled transformations, leveraging the synergy of AI with SAP’s robust platform.

Visionary Leadership Driving the SAP-Infosys Partnership

Christian Klein, who serves as the CEO and is part of the Executive Board of SAP SE, echoed the sentiment that the partnership’s strength lies in their shared ambition to augment customer experiences and enable clients to hasten their digital transformation in the cloud.

The continued success of this partnership is also a testament to the visionary leadership of both Sap and Infosys. Salil Parekh, CEO & MD of Infosys, has consistently emphasized innovation as the guiding principle for the partnership, especially in an increasingly intricate and competitive business landscape. Parekh’s commitment to creating cutting-edge industry cloud solutions while future-proofing businesses for sustainable growth are sentiments deeply shared with SAP.

The impact of the SAP-Infosys collaboration is best demonstrated in the positive feedback from the clients they serve. Metsä Group’s CIO, Tapio Nuutinen, for instance, affirms how the partnership has assisted in modernizing and unifying their ERP landscape, delivering seamless transitions and harmonized business processes.

Roche’s Marc Béchet, Domain Lead ERP Platform & Services, also hailed the strategic role of SAP and Infosys in the execution of their ASPIRE program, which is aimed at innovating and driving digital excellence. Béchet recognized the role of their partnership in improving overall process efficiency and accelerating time-to-market.

Echoing these sentiments, Chris Chesebro, Wella Company’s Global Chief Digital Officer, expressed appreciation for the role of the SAP-Infosys collaboration in accelerating their digital transformation. He lauded the combined expertise of Infosys and SAP in improving operational efficiency and sparking innovation, delivering real business value for Wella.

The SAP-Infosys partnership has been fostering innovation and transformation in the digital world for the past 25 years. As they look forward to the future, the objective is clear: to continue empowering businesses with innovative solutions, accelerating digital transformation, and ushering in a future defined by sustainable growth and operational efficiency. The future indeed looks promising for this enduring partnership.

In a world where technology intersects every facet of life, the food industry is no exception. India’s premier food and agri-tech conglomerate, WayCool Foods, has taken a giant stride in sustainability powered by digital tools. SAP Analytics, a state-of-the-art platform, has been pivotal in this transformation.

WayCool Foods is a prime example of how businesses are blending innovation with environmental responsibility. Established in 2015, the company boasts popular consumer brands such as Madhuram, Kitchenji, L’exotique, Dezi Fresh, and Freshey’s.

True to its name, the company has been “way cool” in its approach to sustainability. Harnessing green energy from rooftop solar installations and implementing water treatment and reuse systems are just a few feats from its impressive portfolio. These green initiatives have not only curtailed 120 tons of carbon emissions but have also conserved nearly 1,980 KL of fresh water. The cherry on the cake? Monetary savings that amounted to a substantial $12,500 in FY2022-23.

What’s even more commendable is the company’s agility in maintaining a food loss of merely 2% within its supply chain, a number that outperforms the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) estimate of 14.7%. The drive doesn’t stop here. WayCool has electrified a significant 22% of its last-mile delivery fleet, translating to 1.2 million kilometers and cutting down a staggering 289 tons of logistic carbon emissions. The bar is set high with a goal to transition to a fully electric delivery fleet by 2030.

According to Srinidhi S. Rao, WayCool’s Head of ESG, the company’s ethos lies in embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices seamlessly across all its business operations.

Digital Transformation: The SAP Analytics Revolution

Stepping into the digital era, WayCool embarked on a transformative journey, steering its sustainability aspirations with SAP Analytics. The core of this transformation is an environmental dashboard, a melting pot that consolidates data from a gamut of sources, ranging from IoT devices to SAP’s own enterprise resource planning system.

This dashboard is no ordinary tool; it’s a powerhouse of insights. By converting raw data into actionable knowledge, it grants a 360-degree view of several sustainability indicators – be it clean energy metrics, waste management statistics, or water efficiency numbers. With an impressive 90% accuracy rate, the dashboard also offers an exhaustive measurement of greenhouse gas emissions, enabling the company to monitor, compare, and optimize its sustainability metrics.

In the words of Mr. Rao, this analytics dashboard amplifies the tangible impacts of WayCool’s environment-centric initiatives. Moreover, the real-time data fostered by this tool fortifies decision-making processes, proving that environment-friendly measures can be simultaneously profit-driven.

The SAP Seal of Approval

Their trailblazing efforts in the domain of sustainability didn’t go unnoticed. At the 2022 SAP ACE Awards, WayCool Foods emerged victorious in the ‘Sustainability Champion’ category. Organized by INDUS, the SAP India User Group, these accolades shine a light on organizations revolutionizing the tech landscape. WayCool’s victory was a testament to its commitment to aligning business growth with ecological welfare.

Conclusively, as technology and sustainability intersect, pioneers like WayCool Foods, bolstered by tools such as SAP Analytics, are crafting a future where business and the environment coexist harmoniously.

JTEKT Column Systems Corporation, a key player within the automobile parts industry, announced its adoption of the innovative cloud-based RISE with SAP offering. The new move is part of its ambitious digital transformation (DX) project aimed at leveraging advanced technology to redefine business processes, streamline operations, and drive decision-making efficiency.

Founded in the scenic locale of Kosai City, Shizuoka Prefecture, JTEKT Column Systems Corporation has steadily solidified its status as an industry pioneer in manufacturing and selling top-notch automotive parts, including steering columns, shifters, and engine drive parts. Under the visionary leadership of President Shikihiro Akiyama, the company initiated a profound management reform last year, setting its sights on becoming the world’s number one column supplier.

The launch of the company’s DX project marked a significant turning point in its journey to industry dominance. The project reflects a concerted effort to reduce operational costs, improve work efficiency, and standardize processes across the board. The company turned to RISE with SAP to bolster these objectives, impressed by the cloud offering’s adaptability and globally acclaimed track record. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

RISE with SAP Offering: Fueling Digital Innovation

At the core of the RISE with SAP offering is a comprehensive, intelligent suite designed to usher businesses into the cloud era. SAP’s solution combines the power of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the robust SAP Business Technology Platform, and the wealth of knowledge and expertise from SAP’s global partner ecosystem. This cloud offering has gained significant traction in the Asia-Pacific-Japan (APJ) region, particularly Japan, where it has catalyzed transformative digital strategies across diverse sectors.

The decision to integrate RISE with SAP into its DX project was a strategic one for JTEKT Column Systems. The cloud-based ERP solution provides a reliable platform to nurture a data-centric environment, thereby streamlining the decision-making process and bolstering adaptability to future environmental changes. Furthermore, the company decided to return to SAP for its maintenance support, reflecting its commitment to seamless project execution and rapid responses to evolving business requirements.

Navigating the Digital Transformation Process

IPS Co., Ltd., a Tokyo-based company specializing in system development and support, has been a pivotal partner since the early planning stages of the DX project. Boasting a rich portfolio of more than 150 companies served, IPS continues to play a critical role in shaping the overall project plan and guiding the system construction for JTEKT Column Systems.

One of the most anticipated outcomes of the new system is a marked shift in management style. By promoting frequent applications of the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle, the company will enable managers, administrators, and project leads to respond proactively to changes and potential risks. This means transitioning from the conventional “report type” approach to a more dynamic, data-driven “proposal type” style, enhancing overall business performance.

As JTEKT Column Systems takes this monumental step towards embracing the RISE with SAP offering, it is not just making a significant leap in its own journey but also setting a benchmark for the automotive parts industry. This decision showcases the potential of adopting advanced technologies to drive industry transformation, promising an exciting era for the automobile parts sector.

Charting the Course Ahead

With the adoption of RISE with SAP, JTEKT Column Systems has taken a bold leap into the digital age. The company has affirmed its commitment to staying at the forefront of technology adoption, setting a benchmark for other automotive parts manufacturers to emulate. As the company moves forward, it will be fascinating to observe how these digital initiatives reshape its operational dynamics and contribute to achieving its vision of becoming the world’s top column supplier.

The successful integration of RISE with SAP within JTEKT Column Systems will also likely encourage other businesses in the APJ region to consider this powerful ERP solution.

China-based Jinlong Machinery & Electronics Co., Ltd. underwent a comprehensive digital transformation and cloud migration to diversify its product portfolio and expand facilities. SAP Support was a critical factor in the company’s successful transformation.

In a recent interview, Jinlong Machinery & Electronics Co., Ltd. Chief Information Officer Zhong Lei discussed the company’s decision to undergo an extensive digital transformation and cloud migration with the German tech giant’s RISE with SAP S4/HANA Cloud. Founded in 1986, Jinlong Machinery & Electronics Co., Ltd. is a leading supplier of structural components, motors, LCD modules, and automation equipment’s precision components. Lei highlighted the importance of Real-Time Support in ensuring the success of the project.

The company’s CIO explained that the decision to embark on a comprehensive digital transformation was driven by the increased cost pressure on lower-threshold component suppliers due to the rising prices of raw materials. By strengthening internal risk management and cost management systems, the company aimed to increase efficiency and maintain or lower product prices.

Real-Time Support played a crucial role in the success of the project, enabling Jinlong to access experts at all times to resolve issues quickly and ensure timely project delivery. Lei noted that the flexibility of the service, which allowed the company to choose between phone, email, and chat support, was particularly beneficial. Chatting with experts live minimized downtime and reduced operating costs and time spent.

Lei also emphasized the importance of being able to communicate with experts in the company’s own language, as not everyone feels comfortable discussing technical details in English. This allowed for more effective communication and a quicker understanding of issues. Additionally, being able to directly communicate with SAP product experts allowed for more personalized guidance and recommendations for best practices.

Strengthening Internal Risk and Cost Management Systems

Raw material costs, such as chips and different high-threshold core materials, have spiked in recent years, leading smartphone manufacturers to shift the cost pressure to lower-threshold component suppliers like Jinlong Machinery & Electronics Co., Ltd. To maintain or even lower product prices while bearing increased raw material costs, Jinlong recognized the need for a comprehensive digital transformation.

The first phase of Fujitsu’s move to a single SAP ERP – the SAP S/4HANA hosted in Microsoft Azure– will be implemented in its headquarters within fiscal 2024.

Fujitsu, a longstanding SAP partner, is deepening its alliance with the German software company under a five-year plan to move all its ERP systems on SAP S4/HANA. The project dubbed OneERP+ is designed to implement a standardized ERP across its global operations and position Fujitsu as a digital transformation company– in a repositioning costing around $760 million.

The multi-year DX project was the brainchild of Fujitsu CEO Takahito Tokita and is led by EVP and chief data and process officer Shunsuke Baba according to The Register. The multinational technology company, which currently has about 124,200 employees, is expected to take in an additional 1,500 employees during the peak of the project implementation.

According to Baba, the OneERP+ program was launched in the second half of 2020 with the objective of building “a foundation to support the purpose-driven and data-driven management”. Fujitsu currently runs over 4,000 systems for internal business and multiple instances of SAP-based systems along with those developed in-house for ERP. Sharing about the hurdles of the strategic shift, he added:

“There are many different business processes and systems for each business and region. One of our key challenges is how to thoroughly standardize all business process data and simplify it as a basic system.”

Moving to One SAP ERP

The mammoth undertaking aims to move all of Fujitsu’s ERP systems to a single SAP S/4HANA platform, hosted in Microsoft Azure and streamline various business processes throughout its global operations. Furthermore, SaaS front-end applications are pegged to run in Azure along with other instances hosted by AWS.

“Our goal with the initiative is to organize and integrate them all at once to standardize and streamline operations in a holistic manner,” Baba added.

The ERP integration project includes managing multiple key business processes such as sales, accounting, procurement, and project management data, among many others. As part of the five-year plan, Fujitsu has been leveraging SAP Concur since fiscal 2022.

“This is a very challenging project, and although it is actually promoted with the inclusion of add-on development, it is not merely an ERP introduction project but is also promoted as a large-scale reform project at the management level on the premise of a large-scale transformation of business processes,” explained Baba. “The organization consists of a team that designs business transformation from a business perspective and a team that implements it as an IT system.”

He highlighted that Fujitsu aims to illustrate to its customers a successful digital transformation and encourage them to embark on their own DX journey. Baba said that the company has the mission to showcase reference models of practical knowledge based on Fujitsu’s own experience and by being the ‘first penguin’ to take the plunge.

As an exemplar of DX with a 40-year global partnership with SAP in technology and services, Fujitsu has recently been recognized as the newest SAP partner to join the Regional Strategic Services Partner (RSSP) initiative launched in Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) to further reinforce the SAP ecosystem within the region. Fujitsu’s participation in the SAP RSSP effort is a major step in realizing the company’s ambition for “Business Applications” to facilitate more sustainable business transformation as part of Fujitsu Uvance, the company’s portfolio of global solutions aimed at realizing a sustainable world.

The Regional Strategic Services Partner (RSSP) initiative is an SAP partner program designed to provide a wide variety of services from partners such as Fujitsu, including consulting services, implementation, and support services, managed services, and more.

This month, German enterprise software giant SAP launched the SAP RSSP initiative in Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) with the aim of further reinforcing the SAP ecosystem within the region. This new strategy will provide qualified partners with an array of services that can assist them in rapidly growing their SAP practice in a collaborative partnership with the multinational tech company. The RSSP is envisioned as a way for SAP to help build up its partner base and develop even stronger relationships between them, ultimately allowing companies to benefit from more value when it comes to utilizing SAP’s products and services.

SAP’s Global Strategic Services Partner (GSSP) program, which promotes SAP worldwide partners’ skills across many areas of expertise including consulting, infrastructure, and technology, is different from the newest SAP program in APJ. Leveraging GSSP’s SAP Partner Finder, businesses can select an SAP services partner that meets their specific requirements for digital transformation.

Fujitsu Becomes Newest SAP Partner to Join RSSP Program

Fujitsu’s participation in the SAP RSSP effort is a major step in realizing the company’s ambition for “Business Applications” to facilitate more sustainable business transformation as part of Fujitsu Uvance, the company’s portfolio of global solutions aimed at realizing a sustainable world. By launching this program, Fujitsu intends to provide multinational clients in the APAC region with end-to-end assistance in modernizing and migrating their mission-critical systems to the cloud, beginning with the design phase and continuing through operations.

Additionally, Fujitsu will increase its DX solution delivery to clients in the APJ market as well as its capacity to design SAP-enabled solutions customized to local business practices and legal systems in each country. Furthermore, Fujitsu aims to ease its clients’ transition to cloud infrastructures by recommending the German company’s RISE with SAP and other solutions developed in close partnership with Fujitsu. RISE with SAP is a Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) cloud package built on SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP).

SAP Asia Pacific Japan President Paul Marriott said that the company is pleased with Fujitsu’s decision to join SAP’s Regional Strategic Services Partner program because Fujitsu has been a trusted customer and partner for many years. He added:

“Closer collaboration and innovation with our partners is critical to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our customers and support them on their cloud transformation journeys. Fujitsu’s experience implementing RISE with SAP for their own digital transformation demonstrates its commitment to its own and our customers’ growth, scaling from Japan through the rest of the region.”

Supporting Customers Using SAP Solutions

Fujitsu, a leading provider of technology solutions with an extensive and impressive history in the manufacturing and retail industries, is committed to helping its customers succeed through the SAP RSSP initiative. This forward-thinking program encourages the digital transformation of businesses by modernizing core systems and utilizing digitalization to streamline management and business processes.

Shunsuke Onishi, SEVP, Head of Global Customer Success, Fujitsu, stated that Fujitsu and SAP have been collaborating to help clients maximize the benefits they receive from integrating their respective technologies and software. Commenting on the company’s latest participation in the regional SAP partner program, he shared:

“Through this RSSP initiative, we will contribute to the creation of a flexible and scalable foundation to meet the diverse needs of our customers. Together we will be providing best practice recommendations to customers who work beyond national and regional boundaries.”

Taking into account the varying business customs and legal frameworks across the Asia Pacific region, Fujitsu and SAP are working to provide clients with innovative solutions including:

  • Cloud migration planning and execution services – Fujitsu’s consulting expertise for developing business systems and cloud deployment, together with its range of digital solutions, will help customers with their end-to-end digital transformation centered on SAP solutions. By providing a unified platform for system implementation and streamlining decision-making, Fujitsu aims to appeal to customers with operations in many regions.
  • Designing SAP-enabled solutions that address specific regional issues – Fujitsu will provide new industry solutions that are compatible with SAP BTP such as “Fujitsu Application for SAP Solutions” for the manufacturing sector and “Fujitsu Profit Protection” for the retail sector.
