The recent announcement of the SAP cloud partnership with Metanet Global in Korea is anticipated to have far-reaching implications. This collaboration is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency of customer operations by providing them access to a wide range of advanced cloud technologies and solutions.

Last year, SAP Korea made a strong and steadfast commitment to the local cloud computing industry by signing a crucial strategic business agreement for public cloud collaboration with Naver Cloud, an internet-based giant, as well as Cloud4C Korea, a cloud-managed services provider. This agreement was designed to foster cooperation regarding public cloud infrastructure and services and reflects SAP’s dedication to promoting the continued development of South Korea’s cloud capabilities.

Fast forward to 2023, Shin Eun-young, the CEO of SAP Korea, and Kim Ki-ho, the CEO of Metanet Global, recently inked a Strategic Business Agreement for Public Cloud Cooperation at a signing ceremony held at the SAP Korea office. The agreement is intended to strengthen their relationship and lay down plans for future cooperation between both parties. During the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony, they discussed in detail their proposals regarding potential collaboration in order to explore new opportunities and promote mutual growth. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

Marking an important milestone for both companies, SAP Korea and Metanet Global look towards developing a stronger partnership to better serve their customers in the public cloud space. By entering into the said business agreement, the two companies are hoping to explore potential business chances for SAP S/4HANA Cloud in the public sector. Their primary goal is to cultivate a mutually beneficial relationship in order to effectively maximize these opportunities and make them a reality.

Commenting on the latest industry development, SAP Korea Chief Executive Officer Shin Eun-young said in a statement:

“SAP is a company that advances business with an integrated process based on new technologies and advanced cases so that all companies and institutions regardless of the size and type of organization can quickly respond to the changing market and change the way they work. We are providing various support so that this intelligent enterprise can be reborn. We look forward to actively building a public best case that succeeded in transforming into an intelligent enterprise in partnership with Metanet Global.”

Supporting the Public Sector Through the Metanet-SAP Cloud Partnership

The public sector in Korea is in particular need of cloud-based solutions, particularly SAP, to help them modernize their infrastructure and streamline operations. Cloud computing provides organizations with a secure and cost-effective platform for storing data, improving efficiency, and reducing IT costs. Adopting cloud technology will enable the public sector to access up-to-date information more quickly, enabling faster decision-making and improved customer service.

Furthermore, with cloud solutions organizations can take advantage of innovative features such as collaboration tools which can be used by employees both inside and outside the organization. As such, it is clear that the public sector in Korea must embrace cloud solutions if they are to remain competitive in today’s technologically advanced world.

Based on the signed agreement with SAP, Metanet Global will actively promote and propagate SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition and SAP HANA Big Data platform when they are conducting introduction and construction projects of SAP S/4HANA in the public sector. SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition is an innovative cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that responds to customer-specific issues with a customized approach.

By leveraging the latest intelligent technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and advanced analytics, this powerful software has become increasingly popular among businesses of all sizes around the globe. With its user-friendly interface and comprehensive capabilities, it continues to be one of the most sought-after solutions for companies looking for an efficient and effective ERP system.

Moreover, the agreement allows them to provide more tailored solutions for their customers so they can benefit from the most advanced technological advancement while keeping track of the budget. By doing so, Metanet Global is able to accelerate and lead innovation and change that might come up during such a project.

“Metanet Global is a representative IT consulting company in Korea with high-level consultants and application modernization capabilities and has continued close business cooperation with SAP Korea. It will contribute to the efficient and stable digital transformation of public institutions,” Metanet Global Chief Executive Officer Kim Gi-ho said.

NTT Data Corporation Kansai, SAP Japan, and Zainasu signed an agreement to deliver the information utilisation platform for disaster prevention and mitigation dubbed PREIN to local governments nationwide.

Japan’s climatic variations, rugged topography, and location in both the Pacific earthquake belt and Ring of Fire make the country prone to natural disasters– from violent earthquakes and typhoons to tsunamis. In recent years, SAP technology has been leveraged by some Japanese organisations to help them better prepare for any looming natural hazards.

For instance, Tokyo-based manufacturing company Hakusan Corporation partnered with SAP in 2018 to advance the development of “myShindo”, a smartphone application that measures the intensity of earthquakes with an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad attached at the building frame. The application harnessed SAP Leonardo in creating a more fully-featured product and SAP Cloud Platform for the collection of the intensity data. SAP Japan and Hakusan’s partnership goes all the way back in 2016 under the One Billion Lives initiative.

Developing a Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Platform

In 2019, Oita University Disaster Mitigation and Reconstruction Design Education and Research Center also collaborated with SAP Japan alongside Zainasu Co., Ltd., a member of the SAP Partner Open Ecosystem, to develop EDISON (Earth Disaster Intelligent System and Operating Network). Powered by SAP HANA and SAP Leonardo, EDISON, which leverages Big Data, ML, and AI, is capable of locating spots in the Oita Prefecture prone to disaster as well as building better infrastructure focused on safety. PREIN, a disaster prevention and mitigation platform coined from PREdictive INsights, is a product of the EDISON collaboration.

Sharing about the EDISON development, Disaster Prevention Bureau of the Living Environment Department of Oita Prefecture and the Commerce, Industry, Tourism, and Labor Department of Oita Prefecture commented:

“As the development of advanced technologies such as drones, AI, and satellite data progresses, it is important to utilize advanced technologies in disaster prevention and mitigation. In this prefecture, a study group on the utilization of advanced technologies for disaster prevention (disaster prevention) We have set up a tech study group) and are proceeding with discussions on strengthening disaster prevention capabilities using advanced technology.

Sharing disaster information is also an important theme at the disaster prevention tech study group, and in the prefecture, Oita University disaster mitigation and reconstruction design education and research Based on the agreement with the center, we are promoting cooperation such as providing disaster prevention information to EDISON. We will continue to work to improve regional disaster prevention capabilities while maximizing the vitality of the private sector.”

NTT Data Corporation Joining Forces with SAP Japan and Zainasu

Fast forward to today, NTT Data Corporation Kansai, a part of NTT Data Group, has joined SAP Japan and Zainasu under an agreement to work together for the availability of PREIN in local governments across Japan. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.) Specifically, NTT West Group and NTT Data Group will be handling the sales component while NTT Data Kansai and Zainasu will be taking charge of the launch and operational support.

PREIN can help streamline the disaster response work of local governments with the platform’s capability to centrally manage and perform advanced analytics on disaster risk and forecast information. Moreover, NTT Data Kansai can link the comprehensive disaster prevention information system “EYE-BOUSAI” with PREIN, providing governments a dashboard that shows the degree of risk to enable them to create evacuation plans faster. EYE-BOUSAI is a cloud-based comprehensive disaster prevention system developed by NTT Data that provides real-time information not only in the event of a disaster but also before it occurs to enable both local and private organisations to lead early evacuation strategies to protect lives and properties.

Below is the preview of the project’s implementation methodology:

1. The PREIN platform powered by SAP HANA centrally manages disaster information held “EYE-BOUSAI” and each institution distributes disaster prevention, mitigation, or prediction data

2. SAP Analytics Cloud’s numerical model and ML capabilities provide risk assessment and simulation of disaster risk based on these data.

3. SAP Analytics Cloud acts as a repository for the scenarios required for disaster prevention, mitigation, and disasters as well as the local governments and private companies BCP.

SAP Japan, Zainasu, and NTT Data Kansai’s signing ceremony was held last 27th October 2021 at NTT Data Kansai.

Japanese companies have begun the process of SAP S/4HANA migration to unlock the true business potential of an intelligent enterprise in today’s digital economy.

SAP S/4HANA is the German tech giant’s fourth-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) system based on the SAP HANA database. It is SAP’s solution to the increasingly complex digital business environment — with intelligent features, a simplified data model, and the new SAP HANA in-memory database that enables real-time data analytics.

As the deadline for SAP S/4HANA migration approaches, more and more businesses in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region are looking into migration options and strategies. Amid a challenging and highly competitive market, the adoption of SAP S/4HANA calls for a major shift in how an organisation consumes services and develops applications, as well as how technology is translated into performance and service delivery.

In a blog post, Sven Denecken, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Management and Co-Innovation for SAP S/4HANA at SAP, said that SAP S/4HANA customers have a chance to achieve faster execution, standardisation, simplification, and a higher level of business process integration by following the SAP Activate methodology.

“By choosing to activate both our solution and methodology, customers have repeatedly demonstrated how they went above and beyond former best practice,” Denecken stated.

Embarking on a Digital Transformation Journey with SAP S/4HANA Migration

Several organisations in Japan have already embarked on their transformation journeys — transitioning from highly-customised software solutions to move towards cloud-based IT workloads and the implementation of SAP S/4HANA with best practices content.

Trusco Nakayama Corporation is a leading supplier of machine tools, distribution equipment, and environmental safety equipment, as well as a manufacturer of machine tools. Atsushi Kazumi, CIO at Trusco Nakayama Corporation, said that the company’s migration to SAP S/4HANA marks the beginning of its digital transformation journey. He stated:

“Using SAP S/4HANA, we have enriched the customer experience by improving convenience. With Intelligent ERP, we now have a platform for ongoing business innovation, dramatically accelerating our business transformation.”

Trusco manages 2.3 million products, keeps its inventory stocked with 390,000 pieces, and has achieved a 90{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} inventory hit rate using SAP S/4HANA’s inventory and supply chain management solutions. Furthermore, the company has extended S/4HANA with custom applications leveraging the SAP Business Technology Platform to achieve new levels of customer experience throughout the supply chain. Trusco Nakayama Corporation positions itself for further innovation using intelligent technologies with its business transformation centered on Intelligent ERP.

“And thanks to SAP Business Technology Platform turning businesswide data into business value, we’re boosting on time deliveries and offering new levels of convenience for our customers,” Kazumi further said.

Utilising the Capabilities of SAP Solutions

By moving to SAP S/4HANA, Toyota Motor Corporation is following a global trend among automotive companies that are modernising their businesses in today’s intelligent enterprise era. There was a business need within the group to regulate its accounting system up to international standards, such as the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

In 2018, Toyota Systems Corporation President and Representative Director Hiroaki Kitazawa, who was then the company’s Executive General Manager of the Information Systems Group, said that they turned to SAP to help build the infrastructure of Toyota’s new company-wide accounting information system. Since the implementation of SAP S/4HANA, Toyota has improved visibility and speed of financial management reporting and analytics by simplifying business processes, technology management, and efficient data acquisition.

Meanwhile, general trading company Mitsui and Co., Ltd., one of the largest sogo shosha in Japan, is driving a move to cloud-based solutions within the organisation as part of its strategy towards digital transformation. The company has migrated all 40 countries to SAP S/4HANA in a cloud environment after having worked with its old legacy ERP software since 2000.

Mitsui’s journey to becoming an intelligent enterprise began with the adoption of SAP S/4HANA as its backbone for managing backend processes around the globe. To minimise the manual matching load in accounts receivable, the company is now fully leveraging SAP S/4HANA’s simplified data model, in-memory analytics, and machine learning capabilities.

Moreover, Mitsui has automated up to 90{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} of payment matching and invoice processes for high-frequency company codes, reducing the amount of time it takes to match one payment to several invoices.

SAP HANA Cloud is a fully managed in-memory cloud database as a service (DBaaS) and is the cloud-based data foundation for SAP’s Business Technology Platform that integrates data from across the enterprise, enabling faster decisions based on live data.

The Asia Pacific region’s adoption of cloud technology and 5G have accelerated in recent years. APAC is pegged to be the world’s largest 5G region and to increase cloud revenue by 87 percent over the four-year period to the beginning of 2025.

The rewards of the region’s brisk adoption of cloud technology and investment in 5G have been evident, especially in the time of COVID-19. During the 10th anniversary celebration of its in-memory data platform SAP HANA, SAP executives expressed their confidence in the region’s readiness in thriving in the current business environment and in driving the value of data amid the pandemic.

Leveraging 5G Technology

APAC is anticipated to reach 675 million connections or over half of the global volume by 2025. China, Japan, and South Korea, with mobile operators investing $370 billion between 2018 and 2025 building out their 5G networks, are expected to drive 5G growth in the region.

Irfan Khan, SAP’s President of Platform and Technologies, shared with ZDNet that APAC’s aggressive rollout of 5G networks placed the region in a favorable position in these extraordinary times. He also added that businesses in the region could leverage its broad and robust ecosystem of developers, including citizen developers, who tapped new tools to rapidly create workloads.

Early Adoption SAP HANA Cloud

Aneesha Shenoy, SAP Asia Pacific Japan Senior Vice President and Head of Platform and Technologies, shared that enterprises in APAC were transitioning faster along with embracing 5G. She shared that this was manifested in the region’s adoption of SAP HANA Cloud and Data Warehouse Cloud, which were released in the late-second quarter of 2020.

According to Shenoy, businesses in the region were realising the power of data to facilitate better human resources, inventory, or financial planning and maintenance. One instance that she mentioned underpinning the value of data is when healthcare institutions leverage SAP HANA Analytics Cloud during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the cloud solution, institutions gain better visibility on the inventory of personal protective equipment (PPE) or which hospitals could accommodate more patients.

Looking into the future of data, Khan projected that in the next decade, there would be ubiquitous access to all the data one owned, regardless of where the data resided– whether it was in an edge network, device, hybrid cloud, or in a legacy system. He explained that to be able to achieve this, there would need to be a semantic layer much like an orchestration of processes.

SAP HANA’s Roadmap

Next in the pipeline is SAP HANA 2.0, which featured hybrid cloud support with SAP HANA Cloud and could query SAP HANA Cloud and return results that tapped capabilities in machine learning. With SAP HANA 2.0, customers have an option to choose between accessing data through federated query and replication.

Khan explained that the reason behind the need for SAP HANA to be converged with SAP HANA Cloud is to support enterprises that are moving away from on-premise environments to cloud-native and would want to be able to move to a hyperscale infrastructure. He said that SAP HANA Cloud was designed to be a gateway to all data, in line with the emergence of edge computing, IoT, and distributed storage.

“It’s modern data processing that’s fit for purpose, where the real-world data is,” he said.

SAP Ariba procurement solutions help organisations improve their entire buying and settlement process, achieve compliance, visibility, and control while delivering negotiated savings that improve the bottom line.

Despite the economic downturn in the foodservice industry due to COVID-19 plus the decline in the domestic beer market, in particular, the Japan-based global food and beverages manufacturer Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. (Asahi Group) remains committed to strengthening its business and pursuing rapid growth by distributing resources to higher-added-value brands both locally and globally.

The company has selected SAP Ariba procurement solutions to deliver the digital strategy intended to help the domestic group companies’ purchasing of indirect materials. The Asahi Group will be implementing SAP Ariba solutions as its sole indirect materials purchasing platform in the cloud anticipated cut costs, strengthen compliance, and improve efficiency and productivity.

SAP has been a partner of Asahi on its digital transformation journey. Before this recent deployment of SAP Ariba solutions, the Japanese enterprise has also been leveraging the HANA technology in managing its beverage inventory in stores and in responding to market trends more quickly. HANA has been helping Asahi strengthen relationships with retailers and consumers by providing accessible, near real-time sales and operations data.

Procurement Solutions Rollout

The rollout of the SAP Ariba procurement solutions began in January 2019 at both Asahi Group and Asahi Group’s business management entity Asahi Professional Management Co. Ltd. In July 2019, Asahi Breweries Ltd., the group’s entity known for production and sales of beer, happoshu (low-malt beer), sho-chu, chu-hi, spirits, and wine, was the second to deploy the SAP Ariba solutions.

Asahi Soft Drinks Co. Ltd. and Asahi Group Foods Ltd. implemented the procurement solutions in January 2020 and the rest of the group companies abroad will follow.

2020 has challenged a lot of enterprises, including the Asahi Group, in terms of achieving business results. Forecasting 2021, the company anticipates that it will be able to achieve ongoing cost reduction and compliance by having 80 percent of all indirect materials spend managed by its procurement team optimising SAP Ariba solutions.

“Glocal Value Creation Management”

In the recent CEO message released in August, Asahi President and CEO Akiyoshi Koji shared the company’s philosophy in addressing the pandemic and adapting to the new normal. According to the CEO, Asahi will proceed with the “Glocal(think globally, act locally) Value Creation Management” that is based on the Asahi Group Philosophy in addressing management reforms. Yotta Infrastructure is positioned as a new-age Managed Data Center service provider developing hyper-scale data center parks in India.

Yotta Infrastructure has expanded its services with the launch of ‘single-window’ SAP Services co-created with Yotta CIO Innovative Council Members, an invite-only forum of leading CIOs and IT veterans across domains. The new Yotta solutions are anticipated to deliver a comprehensive ecosystem for SAP that is agile, efficient, secure, and scalable.

Sunil Gupta, Managing Partner and CEO at Yotta said:

“Yotta is continuously working towards fulfilling the demands of technology-focused companies; Enterprises deploying SAP face multiple challenges as they need to deal with multiple vendors/partners. Not to mention the constant upkeep and upgrade of the systems, database, and more. This entails a considerable time and capital investment, working with multiple vendors across the SAP landscape.”

“Our ‘single-window’ approach towards providing expert consultancy to design and deploy SAP solutions, generates a host of benefits for our customers including faster deployment at highly cost-effective charges,” he further explained.

End-to-End SAP Capabilities

Now with an extensive suite of SAP solutions, Yotta will be able to deliver end-to-end SAP capabilities for all major SAP use-cases such as Greenfield SAP implementation, SAP Disaster Recovery for existing sites, Migration from any other ERP to SAP, or upgrading from a legacy version to SAP on HANA, and lift and shift from Captive DC to colocation model.

The ‘single-window’ SAP services offer comprehensive, cost-effective solutions and have the following notable features and capabilities:

“To further simplify our offerings, we have introduced four all-inclusive packages for various use-cases such as new implementation or DR or Migration. For example, if you want to migrate from a legacy SAP to SAP on HANA and if you have 100 users, we have a ready-made package with primary setup, DR, Storage, Backup, Network, Security, SAP Compute, etc. bundled, pre-sized, and ready for roll-out.”

SAP continues its mission of empowering the intelligent enterprise by providing high-value products and services that help customers across all industries overcome obstacles stemming from IT challenges and business volatility with the revamped Business Technology Platform for better SAP analytics and cloud technology.

During the virtually-held SAPPHIRE NOW Converge conference, SAP announced several noteworthy additions and enhancements to the major components of its Business Technology Platform, a portfolio of integrated, end-to-end services and tools:

  • SAP HANA
  • SAP Analytics Cloud
  • SAP Data Warehouse Cloud
  • SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite
  • SAP Cloud Platform Extension Suite

The improvements focus on real-time data management, data analytics, workflow management capabilities, simplified pricing model, and streamlined experience and product integrations.

Data Analytics and Cloud Platform for the Intelligent Enterprise

Staying relevant in today’s uncertain economy is a top priority for businesses of all sizes. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of digitalization as a necessity in business survival. In order to better respond to rapid market changes and customer needs and behaviors, companies must learn how to turn actionable data into valuable business outcomes.

Turning data into business outcomes effectively comes with challenges though:

  • The high-volume of information from diverse sources can cause resources to be mismanaged and impair analysis.
  • Proper implementation of intelligent technologies to identify risks and predict outcomes also presents difficulties.
  • The ability to quickly adapt business processes to the rapidly changing market.

The answer to these challenges lies in transforming into an agile, intelligent enterprise—one that can connect business processes with customer experiences and analyze those connections for deep insights, in real-time. With SAP’s Business Technology Platform’s improved analytics and cloud technology, organizations will be better at making business decisions that bring the highest-value and outcomes for the business.

SAP’s Business Technology Platform

The open platform from SAP is both on-premise and cloud-native and is a key component of the solutions provider’s “Intelligent Enterprise” initiative. It unifies data management, analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, and application development technologies to equip businesses with continuous innovation.

The latest enhancements to its SAP’s Business Technology Platform allow for real-time data management, quick and easy integration of enterprise applications across any IT landscape, better planning and decision-making, and continuous innovation.

SAP HANA

SAP plans to deliver the latest version, SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 by the end of June. The SAP HANA Cloud is a data management and analytics foundation for innovative solutions such as SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. The new improvements will bring a simplified data management and a 679 percent average five-year return on investment through the enhanced SAP HANA native storage extension.

SAP HANA Cloud can now be accessed on Amazon Web Services, in addition to Microsoft Azure. This provides greater flexibility and choice to customers moving to the cloud.

SAP Analytics Cloud

More products are now tightly integrated with SAP Analytics Cloud, including SAP Data Warehouse Cloud and the newly released SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform. Additional features such as planning and predictive functionalities have also been added for faster and more robust planning.

SAP Data Warehouse Cloud

SAP Data Warehouse Cloud now includes a more diverse lineup of prebuilt business content packages to provide quick access to data insights. Hundreds of SAP partners are also expected to provide more content and data connectors for the data warehouse software on the SAP App Center.

SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite

SAP provides a simplified pricing for the SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite, allowing customers to sign up once to use all capabilities rather than having to license multiple services which offers more flexibility for customers.

SAP Cloud Platform Extension Suite

Customers can now quickly adapt and extend their business processes on in real time, manage workflows on live running processes without help from an IT department. This allows them to successfully and efficiently meet changing demands as well as lower implementation costs.

FusionServer Pro 2488H V5 rack servers, Huawei’s latest SAP HANA certified product lineup, runs on cutting-edge technology from Intel Optane Persistent Memory and Xeon Scalable processors.

The Huawei rack server lineup which passed the SAP HANA certification for SAP BW on HANA,SAP BW/4HANA, Data Mart and SAP S/4HANA scale-out appliance solutions in December 2019, delivers real-time applications that creatively integrates data analysis and application interaction into memory to relieve performance bottlenecks.

To improve ROI for customers, FusionServer Pro rack servers integrate Huawei’s eSight for FusionDirector software. It is equipped with dynamic energy management tech (DEMT) and fault diagnostic management (FDM). Having less than 15{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} latency and 20{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} more bandwidth, the Huawei rack servers are capable of delivering the fastest write performance for SAP HANA scenarios.

To further boost the Huawei rack server performance, FusionServer Pro utilizes Intel Optane technology’s next-gen dual in-line memory module—the Intel Optane persistent memory (PMem)—to provide large storage capacity, cost-effective accelerated performance capabilities and allowing for non-volatile memory storage. The cutting-edge technology does this by:

  • supporting three-memory capacity specifications: 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB per DIMM, allowing for memory capacity of up to 4.5 TB
  • providing cost-effective measures by enabling expansion of service capabilities through the scale-up method to lower capital expenses (CAPEX) and operating expenses (OPEX)using App Direct (AD),
  • providing data persistence to enable access to the master data in the SAP HANA memory database without prolonged restart and drive reload

About Huawei & SAP

The Huawei and SAP partnership has served enterprises in over 50 countries. The Chinese multinational technology company’s SAP collaboration on its rack server lineup is expected to expand with the FusionServer Pro V6 series. Further, SAP projects in the cloud data center, mobility, Smart City, Big Data, and M2M fields are also in the works.

“SAP is the world’s fastest growing enterprise application and database supplier. Huawei is very pleased to have built such a strong alliance with SAP, as both parties can take advantage of each other’s strengths to further enhance the alliance.”
