Olam Agri is advancing its digital transformation by implementing RISE with SAP on AWS, a strategic move aimed at enhancing its global operations with AI-driven solutions.

Olam Agri, headquartered in Singapore, is a prominent player in the global agricultural market, sourcing, processing, and distributing essential commodities such as grains, oilseeds, and cotton. With operations in high-growth emerging markets, the company is focused on building a sustainable and food-secure future. To maintain a competitive edge, Olam Agri has adopted RISE with SAP on AWS, a cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that aligns with their goal of increasing operational efficiency and resilience.

Implementing RISE with SAP on AWS

One of the key drivers for Olam Agri’s decision to implement RISE with SAP on AWS is the seamless integration with SAP Business AI. This AI-powered tool is designed to improve operational efficiency, risk management, and decision-making by leveraging industry-specific data and AI capabilities built responsibly. Olam Agri’s leadership intends to use these tools to enhance supply chain visibility and improve quality control for commodities like grains and rice.

The AI co-pilot, Joule, powered by AWS infrastructure, is set to play a crucial role in Olam Agri’s journey toward automation. Joule simplifies data access and accelerates business transactions, helping Olam Agri optimize equipment maintenance and monitor commodities from farm to table. Additionally, the platform’s AI-based business integrity screening tools will enable Olam Agri to quickly identify and mitigate risks, using predictive analytics to flag potential issues.

Shivram Ramakrishnan, Chief Digital and Information Officer at Olam Agri, expressed the company’s intent to foster greater agility and innovation through this digital transformation. By adopting RISE with SAP on AWS, Olam Agri is positioning itself to meet the evolving demands of its customers and stakeholders, with a strong focus on sustainability and efficiency.

Enhanced Operational Efficiency with Cloud ERP

Olam Agri’s decision to leverage RISE with SAP on AWS aligns with its broader aim to modernize its ERP systems and optimize its supply chain. Managing a complex global supply chain requires a robust digital infrastructure that can handle large volumes of data and provide real-time insights. By moving to a cloud ERP model, Olam Agri expects to streamline operations, improve data accuracy, and enhance collaboration across its global network.

The cloud-based solution also brings sustainability to the forefront of Olam Agri’s agenda. With SAP innovations, the company is working to automate processes that support its sustainability goals, from reducing waste to improving resource efficiency. SAP’s Business AI tools are intended to help Olam Agri continuously deliver value while ensuring compliance with sustainability standards.

Verena Siow, President and Managing Director at SAP Southeast Asia, indicated that Olam Agri’s transition to RISE with SAP on AWS represents a significant step forward in its digital journey. The integration of AI and cloud technology will not only improve operational efficiency but also support Olam Agri’s sustainability efforts and its commitment to farming communities around the world.

Collaboration with Mindsprint and AWS

The implementation of RISE with SAP on AWS is part of a broader collaboration between Olam Agri, SAP, AWS, and Mindsprint, an SAP PartnerEdge silver partner.

Dharmender Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer at Mindsprint, emphasized the company’s deep partnership with Olam Agri, which allows for customized solutions that maximize the impact of Olam Agri’s digital investments.

AWS, as the cloud provider for this project, is instrumental in delivering the scalability and security required to support Olam Agri’s digital transformation. Priscilla Chong, Country Manager for AWS Singapore, highlighted AWS’s role in empowering Olam Agri to improve efficiency and quality management across its value chain.

The first phase of Fujitsu’s move to a single SAP ERP – the SAP S/4HANA hosted in Microsoft Azure– will be implemented in its headquarters within fiscal 2024.

Fujitsu, a longstanding SAP partner, is deepening its alliance with the German software company under a five-year plan to move all its ERP systems on SAP S4/HANA. The project dubbed OneERP+ is designed to implement a standardized ERP across its global operations and position Fujitsu as a digital transformation company– in a repositioning costing around $760 million.

The multi-year DX project was the brainchild of Fujitsu CEO Takahito Tokita and is led by EVP and chief data and process officer Shunsuke Baba according to The Register. The multinational technology company, which currently has about 124,200 employees, is expected to take in an additional 1,500 employees during the peak of the project implementation.

According to Baba, the OneERP+ program was launched in the second half of 2020 with the objective of building “a foundation to support the purpose-driven and data-driven management”. Fujitsu currently runs over 4,000 systems for internal business and multiple instances of SAP-based systems along with those developed in-house for ERP. Sharing about the hurdles of the strategic shift, he added:

“There are many different business processes and systems for each business and region. One of our key challenges is how to thoroughly standardize all business process data and simplify it as a basic system.”

Moving to One SAP ERP

The mammoth undertaking aims to move all of Fujitsu’s ERP systems to a single SAP S/4HANA platform, hosted in Microsoft Azure and streamline various business processes throughout its global operations. Furthermore, SaaS front-end applications are pegged to run in Azure along with other instances hosted by AWS.

“Our goal with the initiative is to organize and integrate them all at once to standardize and streamline operations in a holistic manner,” Baba added.

The ERP integration project includes managing multiple key business processes such as sales, accounting, procurement, and project management data, among many others. As part of the five-year plan, Fujitsu has been leveraging SAP Concur since fiscal 2022.

“This is a very challenging project, and although it is actually promoted with the inclusion of add-on development, it is not merely an ERP introduction project but is also promoted as a large-scale reform project at the management level on the premise of a large-scale transformation of business processes,” explained Baba. “The organization consists of a team that designs business transformation from a business perspective and a team that implements it as an IT system.”

He highlighted that Fujitsu aims to illustrate to its customers a successful digital transformation and encourage them to embark on their own DX journey. Baba said that the company has the mission to showcase reference models of practical knowledge based on Fujitsu’s own experience and by being the ‘first penguin’ to take the plunge.

As an exemplar of DX with a 40-year global partnership with SAP in technology and services, Fujitsu has recently been recognized as the newest SAP partner to join the Regional Strategic Services Partner (RSSP) initiative launched in Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) to further reinforce the SAP ecosystem within the region. Fujitsu’s participation in the SAP RSSP effort is a major step in realizing the company’s ambition for “Business Applications” to facilitate more sustainable business transformation as part of Fujitsu Uvance, the company’s portfolio of global solutions aimed at realizing a sustainable world.

SAP Korea, NAVER Cloud, and Cloud4C have signed a public cloud collaboration memorandum of understanding (MOU) to accelerate the digital transformation of the country’s public sector. This MOU will enable the three companies to share their expertise and resources to provide more efficient and effective public cloud services in Korea.

As part of their efforts to help the South Korean government become a “intelligent government,” SAP Korea and Naver Business Platform inked a strategic business partnership for public cloud cooperation in 2020. The goal of the collaboration was to foster a data-driven innovation culture in the public sector of the country through the introduction of cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and Big Data platform services.

In light of the government’s digital ‘New Deal’ — a policy package estimated to cost 20 trillion won ($16.8 billion) and intended to strengthen South Korea’s business development in a post-COVID 19 environment leveraging digital transformation — the SAP Korea-Naver alliance aimed to increase public cloud solutions. The economic stimulus package, initially unveiled in April 2020, planned to use digital and green innovation initiatives to keep the country’s economy alive. Investment of 160 trillion won by 2025 was proposed, along with the addition of 550,000 employment opportunities.

This year, SAP Korea reaffirmed its commitment to the country’s cloud computing market with the recent signing of the strategic business agreement for public cloud cooperation with internet conglomerate Naver Cloud and cloud managed services provider Cloud4C Korea. The three companies’ expanded partnership was made as a part of a deal for SR Co., Ltd. to migrate its existing IT infrastructure environment, including SAP ERP systems, to NAVER Cloud. SR Co., Ltd., or Supreme Railways, is a railway company that provides express trains — operating out of three stations and has 17 stops for its train services. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

Shin Eun-young, Chief Executive Officer at SAP Korea, shared in a statement:

“The IT infrastructure transfer contract of SR Co., Ltd. is a symbolic example of the first S/4HANA transfer since SAP Korea and Naver Cloud signed an MOU to expand cloud business for public institutions in 2020. Based on the business agreements signed with Naver Cloud and Cloud4C, we plan to secure more cases of digital transformation of public institutions.”

Accelerating Digital Transformation with Naver Cloud, SAP Korea, and Cloud4C

The digital transformation project for SR Co., Ltd. marks the first instance of a public institution’s SAP ERP system being moved to NAVER Cloud Platform, an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider that has successfully attained CSAP accreditation (for NAVER Cloud Platform public institutions). As a result of this cloud migration, it is anticipated that in the future, SR Co., Ltd. will have the capacity to swiftly react to shifting trends in IT infrastructure through the utilization of system flexibility.

“Naver Cloud is continuously making efforts to quickly respond to the rapidly changing environment of public institutions and accelerate public digital transformation. We will further solidify our cooperation with Korea and spare no effort to support the successful implementation of a digital platform government,” Park Won-ki, Chief Executive Officer at Naver Cloud, stated.

SAP Korea also successfully finished the project in collaboration with Cloud4C, an SAP global premium partner and an official partner for the Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) offering RISE with SAP. In accordance with the terms of the business partnership, the three companies will offer SAP ERP operations and cloud managed services to SR Co., Ltd.  within the NAVER Cloud Platform.

The Naver Cloud Platform environment, in particular, is certified by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) to provide public institutions with SAP ERP cloud. Additionally, local financial and public institutions are anticipated to have more prospects to move into the worldwide market based on the Naver Cloud Platform, thanks in large part to Cloud4C’s in-house infrastructure network and compliance system across 52 regions in 26 countries.

Commenting on the expanded partnership with SAP Korea and Naver Cloud, Cloud4C Korea Country Manager Peter Seo said:

“Through this cooperation, we are able to expand the support of the NAVER Cloud Platform-based SAP digital transformation journey in the Korean public sector beyond the private sector. We are providing various cloud management services, including SAP, to over 4,000 global companies, and based on this, we will spare no effort to support NAVER Cloud to accelerate its global market entry.”

By undergoing SAP ERP software implementation, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia intends to maintain its position as the major micro-lending finance company in the country while simultaneously bolstering its core business functions.

As a long-time leader in the market for the financial services industry (FSI), SAP has been providing support to more than 80 percent of the top 1,000 banks and insurers all over the world. In 2021, the German enterprise software giant launched SAP Fioneer, a specialized FSI unit co-owned by entrepreneurial investor Dediq. The subsidiary intends to accelerate SAP’s financial services customers’ journey to the cloud through the implementation of new enterprise applications that are based on SAP technology.

At SAP Indonesia, Managing Director Andreas Diantoro said that the company believes that attempting to improve the overall performance of the numerous businesses and organizations operating within the financial services industry will allow citizens to benefit from the most favorable outcomes. Recently, SAP was tapped by PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia — which is one of the largest state-owned banks in the country — for its enterprise resource planning (ERP) digital transformation project.

“With the support from the SAP system, Bank Rakyat Indonesia can improve services for both internal and external stakeholders, as well as become a more trusted bank in implementing good corporate governance . I think that not only Bank Rakyat Indonesia customers can have the opportunity to improve the quality of their banking experience, but also residents throughout Indonesia,” SAP MD Diantoro shared.

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia has implemented a hybrid cloud model consisting of both online and on-premise services. This has been done so that the organization can have a dedicated and robust financial system as its backbone, which then becomes the “single source of truth” for all of its financial data.

Driving Business Growth with SAP ERP Software Implementation

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia is working with SAP Indonesia to strengthen its core systems and processes as part of its efforts to improve the quality of service it provides to its over 70 million customers across the entire country. The company has adopted seven different SAP modules in an attempt to optimize many facets of its business operations. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

Acting as the Project Manager of BRI Financial Enterprise System Implementation, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Executive Vice President Sandra Chalik said that the organization’s long-term goals are to be recognized as the most forward-thinking banking group in the Southeast Asian region and to take the lead in the digital transformation of the banking industry. He explained:

“For that, we must continue to improve the quality of our services, expand our reach and maintain good relations with all parties.”

Chalik further said that because of the digitalization program, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia has been able to get more detailed information, which assists in meeting the auditing and financial governance requirements of the organization. He noted that ERP technology offers a number of benefits, one of which is the ability to reduce the number of personnel needed in the back office, further enabling the company to concentrate more on expanding its business.

According to the bank, three modules have been developed and implemented up to this point. Moreover, SAP Group Reporting, SAP Income and Expenses (IEM), and SAP Fixed Asset Management (FAM) have been adopted by PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia to:

  • Improve their ability to handle and keep track of the general ledger (GL) both within and across branch offices.
  • Increase the group’s traceability, and move the preparation of the financial consolidation of the group along more quickly.
  • Better understand data structures that are typically multidimensional and varied in order to carry out a more in-depth investigation of them.

“Thanks to these modules, we are also able to automate many of our internal operations, including for accounting and reporting needs. The process of preparing BRI Group’s consolidated financial reports can also be done more quickly and with more intensity – reports that were previously generated in three months can now be completed every month, which is good news for us,” Chalik concluded.

The Partnership that Accelerates Delivery of Insights

You may be aware that the Qlik Data Integration Platform is now available on Google Cloud Marketplace and can accelerate the integration of data from SAP with other data sets in real-time into Google Cloud BigQuery for modern cloud data warehousing at scale.

Recently, Qlik also became a foundational partner for Google Cloud Cortex Framework which helps support SAP customers in delivering innovation and business outcomes faster with a rich set of data foundation building blocks including predefined operational data marts, change data processing, and machine learning templates for common business scenarios. With this partnership, the powerful combination of Qlik and Google Cloud solutions help take the guesswork out of delivering analytics and insights at scale, and accelerates time to value.

The Problem to be Solved

SAP is the core to many enterprises and the data that resides in ERP is highly useful for making strategic decisions. Although approximately 70% of the content in SAP ERP implementations is standard reusable content since SAP ERP implementations have baseline business modules to everyday business processes such as Financials, Inventory Management, Procure to Pay, and Order to Cash, access to this data to combine it with other cross enterprise data sets for advanced insights can be difficult.

By leveraging repeatable analytics solution accelerators from Qlik and Google Cloud, customers can kick start the process of delivering real time data from SAP and other data sets into a consolidated enterprise data warehouse with built in data cataloging capability for faster analytical insights that help drive competitive advantage.

Extracting Value from SAP data with Qlik and Google Cloud

With Qlik as a preferred Google Cloud Cortex Framework partner, you get complete end-to-end SAP source to insight solution accelerators running on Google Cloud. By leveraging Qlik Replicate, customers can quickly move data from SAP ERP (ECC or S4/HANA) and other datasets in real time to BigQuery for fast and fresh insights.

With Qlik Compose, customers can automate data warehouse modeling, creation, deployment, updates and documentation to accelerate time to value of the data within BigQuery as well as take advantage of the analytics-ready data marts and content available for standard business processes provided by both Qlik and Google Cloud. Finally, customers can leverage Qlik Sense for advanced analytics and plug and play reporting templates.

Pioneering Cognitus and Panaya’s brand new partnership is their mutual client, Sumitomo Bakelite North America (SBHPP), a leading provider of high-performance plastics solutions with a global footprint spanning the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, and Africa.

SAP Gold Partner Cognitus has allied with another SAP-certified partner Panaya in a bid to capture the burgeoning SAP S/4HANA market. Capitalising on the two global IT companies’ expertise, the strategic partnership intends to help organisations worldwide accelerate their digital transformation projects with SAP S/4HANA.

Announcing the alliance with Panaya, Pat Sathi, Managing Partner at Cognitus, stated:

“Panaya’s testing capabilities and upgrade Impact Analysis are welcome additions to our current toolset. This will allow us to expedite the SAP S/4HANA transformation and offer value to our SAP customers. Panaya’s long history of providing cloud-based AI-enhanced delivery makes them a strong partner and we’re looking forward to working with them, as we continue to create innovation in the SAP S/4HANA transformation space together”.

Capturing the Growing SAP S/4HANA Market

In an SAP S/4HANA expert study conducted in 2021 by valantic, a global provider of software and digital process solutions, it was revealed that many companies are still keen on migrating to SAP S/4HANA. In addition to the modernisation of the SAP applications and the technical infrastructure as key reasons for SAP S/4HANA migration, 63{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} of those surveyed shared that early SAP S/4HANA transformation offers organisations the chance to future-proof processes to help them achieve better performance, enhance efficiency, and drive user-friendliness.

The increasing demand for SAP S/4HANA has also been consistently reflected in the German software giant’s financials. In 2021, SAP ended the fiscal year with a 46{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} SAP S/4HANA cloud revenue to €1.09 billion and a 47{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} increase at constant currencies, which exceeded its €1 billion cloud revenue target. SAP is forecasting a continuous momentum throughout 2022 based on SAP S/4HANA Cloud’s strong traction.

Accelerating SAP S/4HANA Transformation with Cognitus and Panaya

Cognitus and Panaya’s collaborative partnership comes at an opportune time as the extended 2027 deadline of the legacy SAP ERP’s end of support draws closer. Harnessing each company’s SAP expertise, Cognitus and Panaya offers a compelling proposition for a more efficient SAP S/4HANA migration projects.

Dallas-headquartered Cognitus is one of the world’s most advanced SAP S/4 HANA transformation and SAP packaged solutions provider with over 1,000 highly skilled SAP professionals across 14 global delivery centers including in India and Malaysia. Similarly, Panaya, which also has a global footprint spanning the US, France, Germany, Israel, and Japan, also offers unparalleled SAP experience to customers as a leading provider for SaaS-based Change Intelligence for SAP. According to Shabi Levi, Head of Channels and Alliance at Panaya, the two IT firms make perfect partners.

”The moment we met the team at Cognitus, we knew it was exactly the type of company we would want to partner with. Our Change Intelligence platform fits Cognitus’ SAP S/4HANA implementation methodology, in its Gallop Deployment package, like a glove. With the impressive presence, Cognitus has established in both the Americas and EMEA, we are looking forward to close collaboration in winning projects, such as Sumitomo Bakelite, across the globe,” Levi detailed.

Cognitus and Panaya were selected to be the modernisation partners of Sumitomo Bakelite to support its SAP ECC environment migration to SAP S/4HANA leveraging Panaya’s S/4 Convert and Intelligent Code Remediation solutions. The partnership offers SBHPP a seamless SAP S/4HANA migration by integrating Panaya’s Change Intelligence Platform and AI-enhanced cloud platform, Test Dynamix with Cognitus’ Gallop package and SAP expertise.

Raj Petro Pvt. Ltd., formally known as Raj Group, has moved its mission-critical SAP ERP systems to IBM Cloud Platform in a bid to optimise workflows, drive scalability, and improve performance.

In October, SAP and IBM have collaborated to develop a new solution called BREAKTHROUGH with IBM. The innovation complements the German enterprise software giant’s Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) offering, RISE with SAP. Incorporating IBM services with SAP solutions, the platform is made up of existing consulting services aimed at assisting clients in expediting their journeys to SAP S/4HANA Cloud with RISE with SAP at its core.

Furthermore, the tech leaders have a long history of working together to transform the operations of businesses across various sectors globally. Among these organisations are real estate development firm, Puravankara Limited, and renewable energy platform, Virescent Infrastructure. The companies tapped SAP and IBM Global Business Services (GBS) to accelerate their move to the cloud through RISE with SAP.

Adding to the growing number of customers that leverage the two companies’ close partnership is Raj Petro Specialities Pvt. Ltd., a leading petroleum and lubricant manufacturer in India. Driving rapid business growth, Raj Petro focused on aligning its reporting, workflows, and compliance processes with its parent company Brenntag AG, a German-based chemicals distributor. As part of its strategy, Raj Petro transitioned from SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) business systems to Enterprise Application Managed Services for SAP Solutions on IBM Cloud.

Expounding on the cloud transformation project, Prakash Subramanian, Head of Finance at Raj Petro Specialities Pvt. Ltd., said that the company’s joint venture (JV) with Brenntag imposed a slew of additional requirements on its SAP solutions, as well as in enforcing strict data integrity and disaster recovery compliance criteria for SAP ERP.

“One condition of the JV was that we deliver financial and operational reports in more-frequent cycles. We knew it would be difficult to meet these requirements using our existing infrastructure,” he further explained.

Moving SAP to IBM Cloud Platform

Raj Petro decided to migrate its mission-critical SAP applications to the IBM Cloud to streamline the company’s eventual move to SAP S/4HANA, SAP’s next-generation ERP. The shift to the managed services landscape was completed within just two months, earlier than the JV’s strict deadline and the inauguration of its new corporate headquarters in India.

Discussing the cloud migration initiative, Jitesh Save, Head of Information Technology at Raj Petro, shared:

“By moving to the cloud, we’d gain the performance and scalability to support our compliance use cases at a significantly lower cost than building new on-premises infrastructure. Choosing the cloud would also remove the need to build a data center in our new headquarters — reclaiming floor space and reducing our environmental footprint.”

According to Viswanath Ramaswamy, Vice President of Technology, IBM Technology Sales, at IBM India and South Asia, the JV between Raj Petro and Brenntag Group involved bringing processes and systems closer together in order to accelerate change across the global network. He added that Raj Petro was able to meet stringent regulatory standards, drive scalability, improve performance, and streamline processes by moving to IBM Cloud.

“By leveraging Enterprise Application Managed Services for SAP solutions on IBM Cloud, the transition was completed seamlessly, in time and within the budget despite multiple on-ground challenges,” Ramaswamy remarked.

Moreover, by moving from SAP ERP business systems to Enterprise Application Managed Services for SAP Solutions on IBM Cloud, Raj Petro intended to:

  • Meet its partner’s strict financial reporting and compliance requirements through high availability and performance.
  • Avoid unnecessary delays to the firm’s planned relocation to a new headquarters by moving to the cloud in two months.
  • Eliminate business risk in a recovery scenario by miminising Recovery Time Objective (RTO) to four hours and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) to 15 minutes
  • Streamline the company’s future migration to the next-generation ERP SAP S/4HANA.
