Fujitsu and SAP Fioneer have entered into a strategic partnership to accelerate digital transformation in Japan’s insurance industry with a focus on SAP Fioneer Cloud for Insurance, a comprehensive cloud-based platform tailored for insurers.

The partnership aims to address the challenges and opportunities within Japan’s insurance sector, which is undergoing significant changes due to technological advancements, demographic shifts, and evolving customer expectations. By working together, Fujitsu and SAP Fioneer intend to provide innovative solutions that streamline core insurance operations while ensuring compliance and operational efficiency. The collaboration also emphasizes sustainable business practices, aligning with global trends in the insurance industry.

Advancing Insurance Operations with SAP Fioneer Cloud for Insurance

The SAP Fioneer Cloud for Insurance offers an integrated platform designed to handle the end-to-end processes required in the insurance industry. It encompasses critical areas such as product management, underwriting, policy administration, claims processing, and payment collections. Leveraging SAP Fioneer’s proven technology, the platform combines global best practices with localized solutions tailored to meet the unique requirements of the Japanese insurance market.

This collaboration between Fujitsu and SAP Fioneer includes the creation of the Japan Edition of SAP Fioneer Cloud for Insurance. The Japan-specific version aims to standardize insurance operations and introduce new efficiencies by incorporating regulatory and functional requirements unique to the region. Fujitsu plans to launch this tailored solution by March 2026, following rigorous proof-of-concept testing.

The platform will not only modernize legacy systems but also support insurers in strategically reallocating resources. Insurers will be able to focus on high-value activities such as product innovation and expanding sales channels, ultimately enhancing their competitive edge. Additionally, the platform will strengthen governance, improve IT capabilities, and foster continuous quality improvements, aligning insurers with global digital transformation trends.

The insurance industry in Japan faces numerous challenges, including an aging population, declining birth rates, and a rapidly evolving technological landscape. These factors are reshaping consumer expectations and intensifying market competition. Furthermore, legacy systems and a shortage of skilled IT professionals present obstacles to achieving the agility and efficiency needed to compete in this dynamic environment.

By adopting SAP Fioneer Cloud for Insurance, insurers will be better equipped to overcome these hurdles. The platform’s emphasis on streamlining operations and enhancing compliance will provide insurers with the tools to adapt to these challenges while maintaining a sustainable business approach.

Fujitsu and SAP Fioneer’s Shared Vision

Fujitsu and SAP Fioneer share a vision of driving innovation across Japan’s insurance sector. Through this partnership, Fujitsu brings its expertise in system development and customer success, while SAP Fioneer contributes its advanced financial services technology and global experience. Together, they aim to establish the SAP Fioneer Cloud for Insurance as the standard platform for the Japanese market.

Fujitsu’s Corporate Executive Officer Masaru Yagi highlights the partnership’s importance in transforming the financial sector by merging Fujitsu’s technological expertise with SAP Fioneer’s industry solutions. Fujitsu intends to collaborate on every aspect of the project, from product planning to marketing, to ensure the platform delivers maximum value to customers.

Similarly, Chirag Shah, Managing Director of Insurance at SAP Fioneer, underscores the importance of addressing Japan’s local regulatory and functional needs. He emphasizes that the development of the Japan Edition of SAP Fioneer Cloud for Insurance will combine global best practices with tailored solutions to meet the unique demands of the Japanese insurance industry.

With a target launch in 2026, this initiative promises to reshape the industry, enabling insurers to meet evolving customer needs and thrive in an increasingly competitive market. Fujitsu, a global leader in digital transformation, has revolutionized its procurement function by implementing SAP Ariba Guided Buying. This strategic move has not only streamlined the company’s procurement processes but has also enabled Fujitsu to successfully channel spend towards its First Nations suppliers, demonstrating its commitment to building a more inclusive and diverse supply chain.

Prior to the implementation of SAP Ariba Guided Buying, Fujitsu’s procurement process was decentralized, resulting in limited visibility of its supply chain. This posed significant challenges when it came to channeling spend to their First Nations partners. The company recognized the need for a platform that would establish a single source of truth for all company spend and associated data, empowering employees and managers to make informed decisions while driving forward business strategies and initiatives with purpose.

Nicole Forrester, VP of Purpose, People and Culture at Fujitsu Asia Pacific, emphasizes the impact of the SAP solution, stating that it has provided a platform for Fujitsu to support its diverse supply chain strategy, ultimately enabling the increase of spend with First Nations suppliers.

Overcoming Procurement Challenges with SAP Ariba Guided Buying

To create a more inclusive and diverse supply chain, Fujitsu collaborated with the Indigenous Defence & Infrastructure Consortium (iDiC), an organization dedicated to developing sustainable Indigenous businesses across Australia. Together, they developed a First Nations Supplier portal, providing a dedicated buying channel for Fujitsu’s First Nations suppliers.

Adam Goodes, Chief Executive Officer of iDiC, highlights the significance of this implementation, noting that it represents a meaningful commitment to supporting First Nations people. He believes that Fujitsu’s new guided buying system will provide long-term support and opportunities for Indigenous businesses and communities, contributing to a more equitable future.

Collaboration and Innovation: The Key to Success

Since launching the First Nations Supplier portal, Fujitsu has witnessed remarkable results. The company has increased its spend with First Nations suppliers from $200,000 to an impressive $5.1 million over the last few years. Additionally, Fujitsu has also increased its spend with SME partners to $12.5 million per annum.

The implementation of SAP Ariba Guided Buying has not only benefited Fujitsu’s diverse supply chain but has also streamlined and automated the company’s procurement processes. By establishing a standardized hub for end-to-end procurement activities, Fujitsu has reduced new vendor processing time by over 65%, allowing staff to focus on more strategic tasks. Moreover, the creation of a central contract repository has led to over 2,000 active contract workspaces, with 30% of contracts operationalized for downstream procure to pay.

Angela Colantuono, President and Managing Director of SAP ANZ, recognizes the transformative potential of SAP Ariba for organizations striving for operational excellence and a more equitable, sustainable world. She acknowledges that while there is still work to be done to better support First Nations peoples in Australia and New Zealand, Fujitsu’s implementation of SAP Ariba demonstrates the power of technology in driving purposeful procurement and the meaningful impact it can have on the communities in which it operates.

The Future of Procurement at Fujitsu

Looking ahead, Fujitsu plans to continue leveraging SAP Ariba to create hubs for operational support and standardization of business processes, empowering teams across the Asia-Pacific region. This aligns with the company’s goal of creating a truly centralized and consolidated business that enables a diverse supply chain.

By embracing SAP Ariba Guided Buying, Fujitsu has not only transformed its procurement function but has also set a powerful example for other organizations seeking to make a positive impact on their communities. The company’s success story serves as a testament to the potential of technology in driving purposeful procurement and creating a more equitable and sustainable future for all.

In a market dominated by swift digital evolutions, Fujitsu stands out with its strategic moves. The acquisition of Thailand’s Innovation Consulting Services (ICS) has positioned Fujitsu as an unyielding force in the Asia Pacific domain. Aiming to enhance its SAP consultancy and managed service repertoire, this acquisition aligns perfectly with Fujitsu’s grand design of reigning supreme in global digital transformation.

The acquisition of ICS isn’t an isolated incident. It marks Fujitsu’s seventh monumental acquisition since 2021, delineating the company’s assertive M&A strategy. This deliberate move is tailored to carve a dominant digital niche and accentuate its capabilities.

Incorporated in 2002, ICS boasts a history rich in proficiency. This expertise is poised to work harmoniously with Fujitsu’s ambitions. Especially as it pertains to amplifying Fujitsu’s “Business Applications,” an imperative component of its global Uvance portfolio.

Moreover, with ICS under its wing, Fujitsu is set to elevate its stature in Uvance’s cross-industry verticals. These verticals comprise of Sustainable Manufacturing, Consumer Experience, Trusted Society, and Healthy Living. It is essential to note that these aren’t mere corporate jargon. They underscore Fujitsu’s commitment to devising solutions for humanity’s most compelling challenges.

The alliance between Fujitsu and ICS is more than a corporate merger. It is a collaboration fueled by mutual SAP experience and an impeccable professional lineage. The blend promises to fortify Fujitsu’s position in the market, allowing it to deliver unparalleled SAP solutions at an unprecedented pace.

Graeme Beardsell, Chief Executive Officer at Fujitsu Asia Pacific, has been vocal about the symbiotic nature of this partnership. For him and Fujitsu at large, SAP is not just a technological platform. It’s the bedrock of their growth narrative, playing a pivotal role in navigating the complex avenues of Digital and Sustainability Transformation for their vast client base. His vision includes leveraging this partnership to fortify the Asia Pacific SAP Community of Skills, thereby streamlining their Global Delivery Centres.

Fujitsu Acquires Thai SAP Consultancy Innovation Consulting Services

While mergers are often eyed with a hint of skepticism, considering the possible dilution of brand values, this union is different. Both entities are determined to not only broaden their horizons for new clients but also to nurture their existing customer relationships. This will be meticulously achieved by tapping into their collective strengths.

On the home turf, Fujitsu Thailand Managing Director Kanokkamon Laohaburanakit showcased palpable enthusiasm regarding the merger. In his view, this partnership isn’t just a business move. It’s a catalyst to accelerate problem-solving capacities, weaving the competencies of Fujitsu Thailand and ICS into a formidable solution powerhouse.

Echoing this optimism, ICS Chief Executive Officer Panadda Promwongsak shed light on the merger’s potential. For Promwongsak, this isn’t just an acquisition; it’s an avenue to amplify ICS’s service capabilities. From bolstering their cloud solutions to diversifying consulting, the merger paves the way for holistic growth. Additionally, it promises a vibrant professional playground for ICS’s workforce, granting them global exposure.

Fujitsu’s inclusion of ICS into its fold is more than a mere corporate strategy; it’s a significant evolution in the SAP consultancy landscape of the Asia Pacific. Their shared vision, mutual respect for expertise, and an undying passion for innovation make this partnership uniquely poised for success. As they march forward, the duo promises a transformative journey for the industry, their clients, and the digital realm at large.

The first phase of Fujitsu’s move to a single SAP ERP – the SAP S/4HANA hosted in Microsoft Azure– will be implemented in its headquarters within fiscal 2024.

Fujitsu, a longstanding SAP partner, is deepening its alliance with the German software company under a five-year plan to move all its ERP systems on SAP S4/HANA. The project dubbed OneERP+ is designed to implement a standardized ERP across its global operations and position Fujitsu as a digital transformation company– in a repositioning costing around $760 million.

The multi-year DX project was the brainchild of Fujitsu CEO Takahito Tokita and is led by EVP and chief data and process officer Shunsuke Baba according to The Register. The multinational technology company, which currently has about 124,200 employees, is expected to take in an additional 1,500 employees during the peak of the project implementation.

According to Baba, the OneERP+ program was launched in the second half of 2020 with the objective of building “a foundation to support the purpose-driven and data-driven management”. Fujitsu currently runs over 4,000 systems for internal business and multiple instances of SAP-based systems along with those developed in-house for ERP. Sharing about the hurdles of the strategic shift, he added:

“There are many different business processes and systems for each business and region. One of our key challenges is how to thoroughly standardize all business process data and simplify it as a basic system.”

Moving to One SAP ERP

The mammoth undertaking aims to move all of Fujitsu’s ERP systems to a single SAP S/4HANA platform, hosted in Microsoft Azure and streamline various business processes throughout its global operations. Furthermore, SaaS front-end applications are pegged to run in Azure along with other instances hosted by AWS.

“Our goal with the initiative is to organize and integrate them all at once to standardize and streamline operations in a holistic manner,” Baba added.

The ERP integration project includes managing multiple key business processes such as sales, accounting, procurement, and project management data, among many others. As part of the five-year plan, Fujitsu has been leveraging SAP Concur since fiscal 2022.

“This is a very challenging project, and although it is actually promoted with the inclusion of add-on development, it is not merely an ERP introduction project but is also promoted as a large-scale reform project at the management level on the premise of a large-scale transformation of business processes,” explained Baba. “The organization consists of a team that designs business transformation from a business perspective and a team that implements it as an IT system.”

He highlighted that Fujitsu aims to illustrate to its customers a successful digital transformation and encourage them to embark on their own DX journey. Baba said that the company has the mission to showcase reference models of practical knowledge based on Fujitsu’s own experience and by being the ‘first penguin’ to take the plunge.

As an exemplar of DX with a 40-year global partnership with SAP in technology and services, Fujitsu has recently been recognized as the newest SAP partner to join the Regional Strategic Services Partner (RSSP) initiative launched in Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) to further reinforce the SAP ecosystem within the region. Fujitsu’s participation in the SAP RSSP effort is a major step in realizing the company’s ambition for “Business Applications” to facilitate more sustainable business transformation as part of Fujitsu Uvance, the company’s portfolio of global solutions aimed at realizing a sustainable world.

The Regional Strategic Services Partner (RSSP) initiative is an SAP partner program designed to provide a wide variety of services from partners such as Fujitsu, including consulting services, implementation, and support services, managed services, and more.

This month, German enterprise software giant SAP launched the SAP RSSP initiative in Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) with the aim of further reinforcing the SAP ecosystem within the region. This new strategy will provide qualified partners with an array of services that can assist them in rapidly growing their SAP practice in a collaborative partnership with the multinational tech company. The RSSP is envisioned as a way for SAP to help build up its partner base and develop even stronger relationships between them, ultimately allowing companies to benefit from more value when it comes to utilizing SAP’s products and services.

SAP’s Global Strategic Services Partner (GSSP) program, which promotes SAP worldwide partners’ skills across many areas of expertise including consulting, infrastructure, and technology, is different from the newest SAP program in APJ. Leveraging GSSP’s SAP Partner Finder, businesses can select an SAP services partner that meets their specific requirements for digital transformation.

Fujitsu Becomes Newest SAP Partner to Join RSSP Program

Fujitsu’s participation in the SAP RSSP effort is a major step in realizing the company’s ambition for “Business Applications” to facilitate more sustainable business transformation as part of Fujitsu Uvance, the company’s portfolio of global solutions aimed at realizing a sustainable world. By launching this program, Fujitsu intends to provide multinational clients in the APAC region with end-to-end assistance in modernizing and migrating their mission-critical systems to the cloud, beginning with the design phase and continuing through operations.

Additionally, Fujitsu will increase its DX solution delivery to clients in the APJ market as well as its capacity to design SAP-enabled solutions customized to local business practices and legal systems in each country. Furthermore, Fujitsu aims to ease its clients’ transition to cloud infrastructures by recommending the German company’s RISE with SAP and other solutions developed in close partnership with Fujitsu. RISE with SAP is a Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) cloud package built on SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP).

SAP Asia Pacific Japan President Paul Marriott said that the company is pleased with Fujitsu’s decision to join SAP’s Regional Strategic Services Partner program because Fujitsu has been a trusted customer and partner for many years. He added:

“Closer collaboration and innovation with our partners is critical to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our customers and support them on their cloud transformation journeys. Fujitsu’s experience implementing RISE with SAP for their own digital transformation demonstrates its commitment to its own and our customers’ growth, scaling from Japan through the rest of the region.”

Supporting Customers Using SAP Solutions

Fujitsu, a leading provider of technology solutions with an extensive and impressive history in the manufacturing and retail industries, is committed to helping its customers succeed through the SAP RSSP initiative. This forward-thinking program encourages the digital transformation of businesses by modernizing core systems and utilizing digitalization to streamline management and business processes.

Shunsuke Onishi, SEVP, Head of Global Customer Success, Fujitsu, stated that Fujitsu and SAP have been collaborating to help clients maximize the benefits they receive from integrating their respective technologies and software. Commenting on the company’s latest participation in the regional SAP partner program, he shared:

“Through this RSSP initiative, we will contribute to the creation of a flexible and scalable foundation to meet the diverse needs of our customers. Together we will be providing best practice recommendations to customers who work beyond national and regional boundaries.”

Taking into account the varying business customs and legal frameworks across the Asia Pacific region, Fujitsu and SAP are working to provide clients with innovative solutions including:

  • Cloud migration planning and execution services – Fujitsu’s consulting expertise for developing business systems and cloud deployment, together with its range of digital solutions, will help customers with their end-to-end digital transformation centered on SAP solutions. By providing a unified platform for system implementation and streamlining decision-making, Fujitsu aims to appeal to customers with operations in many regions.
  • Designing SAP-enabled solutions that address specific regional issues – Fujitsu will provide new industry solutions that are compatible with SAP BTP such as “Fujitsu Application for SAP Solutions” for the manufacturing sector and “Fujitsu Profit Protection” for the retail sector.

Fujitsu Limited and Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE (SNP) have signed a Platinum Partnership agreement with the aim of providing the BLUEFIELD™ approach as the preferred method for SAP® S/4HANA conversions.

This Platinum Partnership combines the digital transformation capabilities of Fujitsu, a strong global brand with deep expertise in manufacturing, retail, financial services and other industries as well as SAP, with the unrivalled experience of the SNP Group, the world’s leading provider of data transformation software in the SAP environment.

Outdated and complicated core systems often become a bottleneck for digital transformation (DX). As the deadline for the maintenance cutoff for SAP ERP 6.0 approaches, existing SAP users are advised to complete the conversion from SAP ERP 6.0 to SAP S/4HANA and to start moving to the next-generation ERP platform in order to become more intelligent by also taking full advantage of advanced technologies such as the IoT and AI. Fujitsu’s expertise combined with SNP’s BLUEFIELD™ approach will enable SAP users to complete this S/4HANA conversion process at an unprecedented speed and agility, and with minimum risks while ensuring business continuity.

Under this partnership, SNP will provide technical know-how of its BLUEFIELD™ approach to Fujitsu to perform S/4HANA conversion and data transformation projects. Fujitsu will also resell licenses of CrystalBridge®, the data transformation software platform of SNP, which consists of a wide range of modules that automate the analysis, data transition and tests. CrystalBridge® builds on technical expertise accumulated over 26 years of SNP’s data transformation business. Thanks to this platform, which conducts a full analysis of customers’ systems and processes and systematizes everything about the transition, conversions to SAP S/4HANA can be completed in as little as six months (on average a 75{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} reduction compared with the conventional conversion approach) while minimizing downtime.

Michael Eberhardt, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at SNP said, “We are excited to partner with Fujitsu given their global presence and professionalism, their leading technical approach, and their strong industry capabilities. This partnership underpins the fact that our software- and partner-centric strategy resonates well with the increasing market demand for automated software-based data transformations. By using our transformation platform CrystalBridge®, Fujitsu will be able to accelerate their customers’ digital transformation journeys while offering the agility to respond quickly to changing market needs. SNP, on the other hand, will strengthen its presence across all key global economic regions and become even more globally accessible for the benefit of its partners and clients.”

Shunsuke Onishi, Corporate Executive Officer, Head of Private Enterprise Business and Head of Global Services Business Group at Fujitsu Limited stated, “In order to remain competitive amidst the uncertainties of this unprecedented global pandemic, it’s becoming more critical than ever to build and maintain a robust business foundation to respond quickly to unexpected changes. Leveraging SNP’s technology with a strong global partnership will position Fujitsu to achieve optimal business infrastructure reform and modernization utilizing SAP’s solutions, which represent the de facto standard for enterprise applications. This move will also allow us to accelerate structural reforms for growth including mergers, integration, and carve-outs. Fujitsu aims to become a go-to partner for customers seeking to embrace digital transformation, delivering ever greater, tangible value to customers along their DX journeys.”

Through this partnership, Fujitsu will provide CrystalBridge® to its customers with favorable license pricing and will perform S/4HANA conversion and data transformation projects. Fujitsu and SNP will also work together to develop a business plan and marketing strategy to maximize the impact of this partnership. Prior to this partnership, SNP established SNP Japan on February 28, 2020. The Platinum Partnership agreement with Fujitsu will allow SNP to accelerate its business for Japanese and global companies. Meanwhile, Fujitsu will offer BLUEFIELD-based SAP S/4HANA conversions powered by CrystalBridge® starting in early October, supporting and accelerating the DX of its customers. Fujitsu aims to achieve a sales target of JPY10 billion (30 cases) globally by 2022 through this partnership.

By combining SNP’s BLUEFIELD™ approach and Fujitsu’s experience in manufacturing, retail and other industries as well as SAP, Fujitsu and SNP will provide the best solution that responds to the need of their customers to build a solid platform for DX while navigating around the unclear economic climate under COVID-19.

Fujitsu Limited is a Japanese company that specialises in information and communication technology (ICT). They offer a full range of technology products, solutions, and services. A few years ago, SAP and Fujitsu collaborated to drive connected manufacturing. Now, the Japanese tech company announced that it had launched a new solution on the SAP Cloud Platform.

Asia One reported via ACN Newswire that Fujitsu Limited announced the launch of the “Fujitsu Application for ETO(1) on SAP Cloud Platform” on December 6. The Fujitsu Application is an SAP solution that supports mass customisation in engineer-to-order production. The launch is expected to benefit manufacturers who receive orders for individual specification products. Some advantages include the improvement of the efficiency of operations, which involves the arrangement of materials after receipt of orders, issuance of production orders, and specification estimates.

    Development Background

Prior to the development, BOM(2) information that is required for manufacturing needs to be entered into the system in advance. This is used as the master information to quote, give instructions, and order materials. Product manufacturers are often facing challenges with this process because each product will have individual specifications. Also, the number of master registrations for product configurations ranges from hundreds to thousands a month.

This led to problems such as delays, inconsistent specification combinations, and challenges in communication. It has also impacted manufacturing sites negatively because workers need to accurately reflect the changes in bills in the system for each business.

Features of the Fujitsu Limited application

Fujitsu introduced a new solution using the SAP Cloud Platform that offers certain functionalities that will help improve on-site system usability by leveraging the standard function of SAP S/4 HANA on the SAP Cloud Platform. By using the SAP Cloud Platform development method, this minimises the impact caused by upgrades to SAP S/4 HANA.

One of the features offered by the solution is reduced lead time while ensuring prompt sharing of information regarding specification changes and accelerating the communication across departments such as design, manufacturing, and sales.

Another feature is that it minimizes operations by utilising a navigator consolidating essential business information on a single screen. The navigator shows order information for individual product configurations, which contains details like procured materials and instructions to factories. This makes it possible to check comprehensive information and to register business information as quickly as possible.

The new solution also lessens the burden and reduces the cycle for work estimates and arrangements by using a configurator. The configurator determines the consistency of specification combinations during the sales process. This helps realise the individual specification estimation in the sales process; however, it can be a time-consuming process. Fujitsu’s new solution can reduce the staff-hours required for communication with the design department. It is also expected to improve operations by utilising excel tools during the master registration and maintenance process.

    Plans and application launches

Meanwhile, Fujitsu Limited said that it would continue to provide the manufacturing industry with solutions that will support the customers’ digital manufacturing business on a global scale. The application will be available starting December 23, 2019. The solution will be launched in countries such as China, Germany, and the U.S. by March 2020.

SAP and Fujitsu had established a global partnership since 1999 when they became the first global Technology Partner for the German software company. To date, the two companies have more than four decades of cooperation. Fujitsu is responsible for more than 2,500 SAP systems, and 330,000+ licences. They also have more than 25 S/4 HANA systems with extensive experience in the use of the platform.
