With digital transformation sweeping all sectors, Arya Noble, a distinguished entity in Indonesia’s health and new ventures realm, recently embarked on its SAP journey.

Partnering with RISE with SAP, the company is tapping into cloud-based ERP to revolutionize its operations, optimize efficiency, and reshape healthcare experiences. This landmark venture doesn’t merely signify a dynamic shift in Arya Noble’s technological strategy but also denotes a significant stride towards realizing Indonesia’s nation-building objectives through its ‘Making Indonesia 4.0’ agenda.

Renowned for its flagship ERHA brand, Arya Noble has established a reputation for providing top-class clinical treatments. Its wide portfolio also encompasses other highly regarded brands like GENERO, Derma XP, and Marco. Arya Noble’s unique value comes from its full ownership of the complete process, from production and distribution to brand establishment. The company is also marking its commitment to cutting-edge skincare solutions by setting up Skinproof, the only local dermatology research lab in Indonesia. This lab concentrates on rigorous testing of a multitude of global skincare and makeup products to ensure their safety and efficacy.

While Arya Noble’s diverse portfolio spanning manufacturing to consumers has been beneficial, it also presented challenges. The complexity and vast scale of operations also necessitated a robust, agile, and scalable ERP system. However, the legacy system they utilized was not equipped to meet this demand, resulting in operational inefficiencies, poor data traceability, and siloed departments.

An SAP Journey Accelerating Digital Transformation

Yonathan Moniaga, Arya Noble’s Chief Innovation Officer, recollects the moment the company launched a comprehensive digital transformation initiative in 2022. This was intended to bolster its digital presence, improve customer engagement, and streamline internal operations, thereby paving the way for future growth and innovation. The critical decision to adopt RISE with SAP emerged from this initiative at the close of Q3 2023. Moniaga further explains how this move aims to foster predictive manufacturing, aligning perfectly with the Indonesian Government’s nation-building agenda through the ‘Making Indonesia 4.0’ roadmap.

The integration of numerous SAP solutions, including SAP Finance, SAP Controlling, SAP Material Management, and more, is targeted at promoting a more meticulous data exchange between Sales and Finance departments. The SAP journey is designed to improve reporting mechanisms and enhance the visibility of crucial data. Moniaga elucidates that the aim is to implement more efficient book closing procedures and enhance traceability, which will enable insights from downstream to upstream processes within the organization.

RISE with SAP: A Stride Towards Data-Driven Decisions

Moniaga talks about the importance of transitioning to RISE with SAP and how it supports the company’s diverse and expanding portfolio. He emphasizes that their strategy focuses on fostering sustainable growth through automation and data-driven decisions. He expresses optimism as they start to experience the potential of RISE with SAP and the promise it holds for delivering products that accurately meet customer needs.

Andreas Diantoro, SAP Indonesia Managing Director, speaks about the privilege of supporting household brands like Arya Noble in their digital transformation and expansion journey. Diantoro mentions how through RISE with SAP, Arya Noble has the power to make more informed strategic decisions. This promotes predictive manufacturing and information visibility across departments, contributing significantly to Arya Noble’s business growth. He also comments on the meaningful impact this digital transformation will have on the broader healthcare industry in Indonesia.

As Arya Noble steps forward in its SAP journey, it showcases the potential and benefits of integrating advanced technologies into traditional industries. It serves as an exemplar to the healthcare industry and beyond, of how digital transformation can streamline operations, enhance customer experience, and pave the way for future growth and development.

In line with the SAP vision of sustainable growth and increased digital presence, SAP Labs India has marked a significant milestone by beginning the construction of its second campus in Devanahalli, Bangalore. This event marks an exciting expansion phase for SAP in India, furthering its commitment to the region and the cloud technology sector.

As an integral part of SAP’s global development network, SAP Labs India has been pivotal in driving cloud adoption in India. Since its establishment 25 years ago, SAP Labs India has significantly contributed to SAP’s global Research and Development, responsible for a substantial 40% of the overall efforts. The new campus in Devanahalli will only further enhance this role, promising to generate around 15,000 new jobs in the sector and help sustain the ongoing digital transformation in India.

As the pandemic continues to reshape the global work environment, the SAP vision anticipates the future of work to be deeply tied to digital innovation. The new Devanahalli campus will be more than just a physical workplace – it is designed to be an innovation hub where the power of SAP’s technology can be harnessed to create transformative solutions. Leveraging the rich talent pool in Bangalore, the new campus aims to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, which will drive the development of cutting-edge solutions in the cloud and enterprise software space.

A Groundbreaking Ceremony Paves the Way for Sustainable SAP Vision

The inauguration ceremony of the Devanahalli campus was graced by the presence of Sindhu Gangadharan, MD and SVP, SAP Labs India, Mohammed Anzy, Chief Operating Officer, SAP Labs India, and Roshan Gowda, Regional Head, Global Real Estate and Facilities – APJ & Greater China, SAP. This significant event saw the SAP vision evolving into reality, with the groundbreaking of the state-of-the-art campus.

Demonstrating the tangible implementation of SAP’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the new campus will spread across a vast 41.07 acres, incorporating sustainable design elements to minimize its environmental footprint. The state-of-the-art facility will house up to 15,000 employees and is intended to operate as a Net Zero, Water Positive, and Carbon Neutral entity.

Moreover, the SAP vision encompasses not just technological growth but also the well-being and inclusivity of its employees. With this in mind, the new campus has been designed to keep the employee experience central to its operations.

“We are elated at the commencement of construction work and can’t wait to further elevate people’s experiences at SAP with this new campus,” Gangadharan said.

A Long-term Commitment to India and Karnataka

The initiation of the construction process of this new campus coincides with SAP Labs India’s 25th anniversary, reflecting the enduring relationship between SAP and Karnataka. The first phase of the facility is expected to be operational by 2025, further cementing SAP’s commitment to India and to Karnataka.

The new campus symbolizes not only the successful partnership of SAP with Karnataka over the past quarter-century but also the bright future of this relationship, which promises to drive innovation and job creation in the region. This exciting development underlines the crucial role SAP Labs India plays in the larger global SAP ecosystem and its dedication to contributing significantly to the digital revolution in India.

Hsin Tung Yang, a pioneering food company in Taiwan, is using SAP ERP deployed in the cloud to reshape its processes, improve its overall efficiency, save costs, and utilize data to drive the company’s mission of digitally transforming into the future.

Committed to constant innovation, Hsin Tung Yang places great value on its consumers by providing them with high-quality products. Rousong (meat floss) and rougan (pork rinds) are two of Hsin Tung Yang’s most famous products among its many food offerings. Dried mullet roe and other Chinese tea-flavored treats are two areas where the firm has seen growth in recent years. The organization also oversees service centers and retail outlets in airports.

Using SAP S/4HANA enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, Hsin Tung Yang began optimizing its internal process, remodeled it, categorized more than a hundred processes, and unified the company’s disparate systems to improve communication and make data more readily available for analysis and decision-making. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

SAP Global Vice President and SAP Taiwan General Manager Chen Zhiwei (George Chen) said that RISE with SAP provides the best support for expanding businesses, and it is a vital component of digital transformation. Furthermore, he added that businesses may significantly lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and increase the efficiency with which they employ their resources by adopting cloud ERP.

Detailing more about the transformation project of the well-known Taiwanese food brand, Chen noted that the company has continued to expand its business reach and actively embrace digitalization in recent years. Commenting on the SAP’s partnership with Hsin Tung Yang, he further shared:

“I am very happy that SAP can become an important partner in the digital transformation journey of Hsin Tung Yang. The practical cases of 25 industries around the world can be used as a reference for enterprise transformation. I believe that by introducing RISE with SAP, Hsin Tung Yang can fully implement digital transformation with SAP S/4HANA cloud ERP and lay a solid foundation for future business development.”

How Using SAP ERP Deployed in the Cloud Accelerates Transformation

Hsin Tung Yang is using RISE with SAP, a cloud-based ERP system, to streamline its supply chain operations. This includes real-time production line scheduling, enhanced distribution efficiency, and more precise stocking across various warehouses. Moreover, Hsin Tung Yang also hopes to cut inventory holding costs, speed up inventory turns, and boost revenue with the use of honest and dependable data on consumer demand.

The Taiwanese food company puts significant resources into digital transformation, optimizes its operations, boosts production efficiency, and generally expedites the pace of transformation in the conventional food sector. It has now joined the growing roster of SAP cloud customers in Taiwan that harnesses the power of the cloud to become an intelligent enterprise. In the future, the company plans to practice sustainable growth from the inside out by incorporating sustainability into all of its internal processes.

As a staple in Taiwanese households for numerous generations, Hsin Tung Yang is committed to its founding principles of “Integrity, Innovation, Flexibility, and Sustainability,” ensuring that the company’s products will always be ones that people fondly remember. Hsin Tung Yang’s Director and General Manager Mai Shen-yang claims that the firm is always pushing to improve its processes, products, and environmental impact.

According to Mai Shen-yang, the firm is the first and only one in Taiwan to simultaneously implement products, and it has developed from being a tiny store in the market to a top 100 brand. Meanwhile, in terms of the company’s collaboration with SAP for its digital transformation program, Shen-yang remarked:

“We look forward to adopting RISE with SAP in the future, with the help of SAP’s technical power and industrial experience, every decision is supported by data, speeding up the digital transformation process of Hsin Tung Yang and enhancing market competitiveness.”

The German enterprise software giant that provides solutions to help organizations efficiently manage their operations has recently released the SAP Q2 2022 results, showing an increase in cloud revenue, particularly in the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) region.

SAP has been executing on its strategy of embracing the cloud, and this has led to a massive increase in demand for their cloud infrastructure solutions. This is fueled by both new business and the adoption of their solutions by existing customers who are looking to lower costs, reduce complexity, and speed up time-to-market.

In APJ, the company had a very successful quarter with their cloud revenue growth of 31% over the same quarter in 2021. This is primarily due to strong results seen in the Japanese and Indian markets. SAP’s total revenue grew by 8% over the same period in 2021, moving up to 1.112 billion Euros, demonstrating success on a global scale.

Christian Klein, CEO and Executive Board Member at SAP SE, said that the results of SAP for the second quarter show that the company’s product portfolio is more significant than it has ever been. He added that the move to the cloud that SAP is in the process of making is ahead of schedule and has surpassed topline projections. Klein also noted that cloud sales has become the tech giant’s biggest source of revenue.

“Our pipeline is strong, and we are winning market share underpinned by the very strong 100% growth of S/4HANA current cloud backlog,” the SAP CEO emphasized.

Over the course of the second quarter, leading Asian organizations have been adopting SAP cloud technologies at a faster pace across all industries, with continued demand for the company’s Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) offering RISE with SAP among various customers. The RISE with SAP program offers an integrated suite of products and services that are designed to help customers benefit from the flexibility of cloud computing, by combining a set of SAP cloud products and services.

The core component of the signature cloud offering is SAP S/4HANA Cloud Edition, which enables clients’ cloud environments to operate in either an SAP data center, or with any traditional hyperscale provider that they prefer. This offers customers the flexibility they need to make a business decision on the next best move for their company’s transformation and its future growth.

New APJ Customers Revealed in SAP Q2 Results Announcement

Paul Marriott, the President of SAP APJ, stated that the company is experiencing a growing demand for the RISE with SAP service from a diverse range of industries. He added that there was a noticeable trend this quarter among travel and manufacturing businesses that are trying to future-proof their operations and achieve business value through real-time data and operational efficiencies.

According to Marriott, there are no indications that the momentum will change in the near future. He pointed out the fact that SAP is witnessing both new and existing clients innovating, expanding, and positioning themselves for future success.

ST Logistics Pte Ltd., Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd., Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd., Bridgestone Australia, Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, and Malaysia Airlines are some of the new clients in APJ that have signed up for the BTaaS offering during the second quarter of 2022. In addition, HCL Technologies, a renowned global tech provider as well as an SAP Global Strategic Service Partner, also went live with RISE with SAP during Q2.

Moreover, it can be noted that HCL Technologies initially announced its support for RISE with SAP last year. In addition to the innovative integration and data architecture services it already provides, the company wants to improve the overall customer experience by providing transformation and consulting services for SAP Factory+ capabilities that make it easier to migrate to SAP S/4HANA.

“In an uncertain world, one thing we can be sure of is that being future-ready means putting technology at the heart of your business and focusing on digital transformation; bringing transparency across the supply chain; strengthening business networks; and incorporating sustainability throughout your operation, because there is either sustainable business – or there is no business,” Marriott further shared in the press release.

  • SNP’s data transformation platform CrystalBridge® and BLUEFIELD™ approach selected for series of S/4 transformations for Astra Group’s automotive companies
  • Simultaneous implementation of multiple projects: New GL, Business Partner and Unicode conversion in a single step
  • Heidelberg, Germany | Singapore | Jakarta, Indonesia, October 29, 2021 – SNP Transformations SEA Pte Ltd., a subsidiary of SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE (the SNP Group), a world-leading provider of software solutions for digital transformation processes and automated data migrations, has completed a successful SAP S/4HANA go-live with a move to the Azure Cloud for PT United Tractors Tbk, the largest heavy equipment provider in Indonesia, in collaboration with PT Astra Graphia Information Technology (AGIT). Following this success, the Astra Group has selected SNP and AGIT for multiple SAP S/4HANA transformation projects this year.

United Tractors, a subsidiary of PT Astra International Tbk (Astra), one of Indonesia’s largest and leading business groups, was gearing up to expand its business by implementing a synergy-based and diversified business model in various business units. The associated digitalization involving the migration to the new SAP S/4HANA business suite with lower cloud operating costs was identified as a priority to support business growth, influence the company’s ability to adopt next-generation business processes, and enable it to make informed decisions quickly based on real-time insights. The need of the hour was a reliable, time-efficient and cost-saving approach, accommodating the highest flexibility regarding the coverage of data transformation requirements and with minimal downtime.

Lie Gunadi, Corporate Strategic and Technology Division Head, PT United Tractors Tbk, says, “As part of United Tractors’ digital transformation journey, the company planned to upgrade its existing ECC 6.0 (on-premises) to significantly improve its operations via a host of optimization strategies. A rapid implementation to move the core business system to S/4HANA and the cloud was imperative to manage demand for innovation, customization and transparent real-time analysis, ensuring business agility – an essential aspect for staying at the top in today’s increasingly intense market environment. Apart from resolving the data transformation challenges, SNP’s CrystalBridge® and BLUEFIELD™ approach delivered as per United Tractors’ ambition for a leaner, higher-performance S/4HANA target system in Azure. A high degree of automation and reliability combined multiple projects simultaneously and reduced the data footprint with selective data migration, lowering TCO at minimal downtime and risk and achieving a single go-live within budgeted timelines. Thanks to SNP, we are on an accelerated path to becoming an agile intelligent enterprise.”

Gerald Faust, Managing Director and CEO, Asia Pacific and Middle East, SNP Transformations SEA Pte Ltd., adds, “SNP is delighted to be part of United Tractor’s strategic endeavor to become an intelligent enterprise with an automated and accelerated transformation to SAP S/4HANA as they transformed their data, business and systems from on-premises to Azure. In the wake of this success, SNP has been engaged to extend its proven expertise to more automotive and heavy equipment companies, dealing with Komatsu, Daihatsu, Toyota, Honda and others within the Astra Group. SNP’s approach supports business growth and paves the way for integrating emerging technologies including big data, embedded AI, in-memory HANA database and real-time analytics.”

Widi Triwibowo, President Director, AGIT, comments, “As a strategic IT arm of the Astra Group, we combined our expertise with SNP to significantly drive United Tractors’ operations, leading the industry through a host of digital, data transformation and cost optimization strategies with an outlook for business continuity and agility. SNP’s software-centric data transformation platform CrystalBridge® and selective data migration approach BLUEFIELD™, which flexibly combines the best of Greenfield (new implementation) and Brownfield (system conversion) approaches, offered a low-risk acceleration of the S/4HANA transformation to the Azure Cloud through automation and specialized data visualization. The proven, reliable methodology combined multiple projects – New GL, Business Partner and Unicode conversion – delivering clear advantages in terms of costs, system downtime and project runtimes.”

Together, AGIT and SNP are implementing a series of business-critical SAP S/4HANA transformation projects for the Astra Group of companies across the heavy equipment and automotive divisions in the region. Their collaboration focuses on business and IT transformation projects specific to SAP environments, providing a repeatable industry standard joint offering in the Astra Group and the Southeast Asian market.

  • Cloud migration package enables fast and secure migration of SAP landscapes to the cloud with SNP software CrystalBridge®
  • Customers benefit from highly reliable planning due to fixed price
  • Package includes all necessary software licenses and consulting expenses
  • Singapore, May 3, 2021 – SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE, a world-leading provider of software solutions for digital transformation processes and automated data migrations, has developed a new solution package for moving SAP landscapes to the cloud in a simple and predictable manner. The cloud migration package is based on the data transformation platform CrystalBridge®, which automates the migration of SAP systems to the cloud, therefore providing a fast and secure move. The package includes all costs that are necessary for a successful data migration – software licenses and consulting services – and the fixed price ensures highly reliable planning. In addition, the package enables a particularly fast move to the cloud thanks to SNP’s flexible, software-based approach: Depending on the complexity and requirements, the time between the performing the assessment and gaining access to the migrated SAP systems in the cloud is often less than six months.

The cloud migration package is designed to map most diverse scenarios even with varying complexities. The package enables a 1:1 migration of SAP landscapes to the cloud (“lift and shift”) along with the necessary SAP upgrades of the ECC systems, operating system and database changes, and even Unicode conversions. The add-ons offered are a selective data migration to the cloud and a migration to SAP S/4HANA in a cloud environment, respectively. In addition, companies have the option to add downtime optimization and the creation of a proof of concept for a test system. If additional functions are required, the package can be supplemented with further services and software modules from SNP. The offer is aimed at both direct customers and partner companies, which can include the package in their offerings.

“Our end-to-end cloud migration package enables customers and partners to move to the cloud quickly, securely and in a highly automated manner with CrystalBridge®,” says Gerald Faust, Managing Director & CEO, JAPAC, SNP Transformations SEA Pte Ltd. “We are confident that our fixed price package is the ideal solution for every SAP customer in the Asia Pacific Japan and Middle East region as it reduces complexity and enables delivering high business performance at the same time: customers benefit from highly reliable planning and won’t experience any unpleasant surprises during the migration project. With that companies get exactly the security they need to take the step into the cloud and the next step in order to become an intelligent enterprise.”

“Our primary goal in developing the cloud migration package was to provide customers and partners with simplified and risk-free approach” adds Tarik Husain, Vice President, Strategic Sales, JAPAC, SNP Transformations SEA Pte Ltd. “Partners can seamlessly integrate this package into their own offerings to provide users with an optimal end-to-end solution. At the same time, customers can see clear benefits from our unique approach. Many want to go to cloud but are concerned about risk, what interfaces they have, project timelines and even what the real cost benefits are. Our approach overcomes all these challenges. This provides a clear and simple path for moving to the cloud.”

Cloud in Indonesia is getting much attention as the country makes its way to boosting its economic growth and dominating the digital economy in the Southeast Asia region. It may be the fourth most populous country in the world, but it is also the nation in Southeast Asia with the largest economy. And cloud giants have their eyes set on Indonesia for the deployment of its data center.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud announced their plans to launch cloud in Indonesia, as reported by Data Center Dynamics. However, Alibaba Cloud was already a step ahead as it put up its second data center in the country this year.

At present, Indonesia is entering a phase where they openly welcome the digital age and is preparing the grounds for startups who would like considering to establish their IT systems on the cloud due to factors such as affordability and scalability. As for larger organisations, they are most likely to build data centres.

Sutedjo Tjahjadi, PT Datacomm Diangraha’s managing director for cloud business, explained that startups could utilise cloud systems to create prototypes and get started on their companies quickly. Meanwhile, large companies that are already in operations are adopting cloud to meet their requirements and resource needs with consideration to the readiness of the market for cloud tech.

Additionally, Fanky Christian, the director and co-founder of PT Daya Cipta Mandiri Solus (DCM) shared that companies will not move to the cloud at the beginning; however, they will migrate standalone systems, such as its HR systems.

Despite the existence of regulations such as the Government Regulation 82 of 2012, which may impact data locality, Christian and Tjahjadi said that this is not a significant barrier to the adoption of the cloud.

Tjahjadi said that the operation of enterprise systems on an overseas cloud isn’t appealing. He noted that running SAP on a public cloud in another country, like Singapore, is going to be a challenge due to the required amount of expensive international bandwidth. He explained that it would depend on the type of applications and deployment.

Tjahjadi warned of hidden costs that may be impacted by the increase of cloud deployments and encouraged businesses to do their share in ensuring that cloud deployments are secured from cyber intrusions. Additionally, he explained:

“Putting the data in the cloud is a lot safer than an on-premises deployment…Protecting their data is the joint responsibility of both the cloud provider and the cloud user.”

Christian also explained that businesses must adopt a multi-cloud strategy, meaning cloud deployments are not limited to a single provider. He also added why human resources is an essential factor in successful digital transformation. He said:

“If you deploy in a data center, you will need the right talent to manage the facilities in the data center.”

He added that the same concept applies to the cloud, where the right expertise is needed to maintain a cloud deployment.

Ultimately, innovation is the key to Indonesian businesses. Tjahjadi concluded that companies should look beyond shifting to digital transformation as a way to reduce costs and consider how it can be used to encourage creativity and innovation using technologies.

Since the year 2017, big tech companies have been encouraging Thailand to take advantage of the cloud in leveraging its technology edge. This year, Thailand steps up in welcoming new technologies as more organisations warmly embrace the coming of one of the most sought after technologies.

SAP gained a stable footing in the tech industry in Thailand with support from some of the leading SAP specialists in the country. These companies specialise in various industries such as automotive, food and beverage, manufacturing and retail industries and are experts in S/4 HANA, C/4 HANA, SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Ariba.

    Cloud Specialists in Thailand

A number of local and global tech companies that specialise in assisting organisations in their transition to the cloud are establishing and strengthening their partnerships with SAP.

An example of these companies includes NTT Data, NTT’s publicly traded tech provider, which acquired the leading SAP specialist in Thailand last year. In 2019, they acquired Locus Telecommunication, a CRM expert and prominent system integrator based in Bangkok.

Sutas Kongdumrongkiat, the CEO of Thailand at NTT appointed during the last quarter of 2019, shared how cloud services on SAP platforms see an increasing demand not only in Thailand but also across Southeast Asia. At present, Thailand contributes up to 24 per cent of the global total SAP usage.

Kongdumrongkiat said that a total market size estimating to US$ 27.1 million is achievable by the year 2023. The figures he shared included Thailand’s which shows a compound annual growth rate of 7.4 per cent which is US$ 16.4 million higher than in 2016.

    He added:

“We forecast that more than 50 per cent (of enterprise organisations) will move to the cloud in Thailand over the next few years.”

Another example is Azure Computers who signed a value added reseller (VAR) partnership with SAP in May 2019 to help address the challenges related to demand and supply in the manufacturing industry. They assisted in bringing the SAP S/4 HANA solution to the market for both on premise on on the cloud.

In its press release on the partnership, Azure Computers shared that one of the reasons for pursuing the development in Thailand is because there are available quality infrastructure and experienced SAP consultants at reasonable rates. The capacity to establish self-sustainable business from the domestic market of Thailand is also identified as another reason.

    Deepening relationship with SAP

Tech companies continue to build and deepen its partnership with SAP — a leading factor pointed out by Google Cloud’s regional director for Southeast Asia, Tim Synan.

In an interview with Channel Asia, Synan shared Google’s excitement for its collaboration with SAP in the Southeast Asian region. He pointed out how global system integrators like Accenture and Deloitte, both known SAP partners, are reporting milestones through SAP and Google Cloud across countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

SAP, along with its partners, continuously works to respond to the demand for cloud and other digital transformation across the Asia Pacific region by increasing its focus on the channel this year.
