Roche, SAP, and Tenthpin formed an industry consortium to address the specific needs of the life sciences clinical supplies practice with a next-generation clinical trial supply management (CTSM) solution.
The coronavirus pandemic has revealed supply chain challenges and opportunities across industries, most especially in the healthcare and life sciences sector, that are critical in balancing the supply and demand. As the impact of the global health crisis continues, SAP’s recent partnership with pharmaceutical giant Roche and global management consulting firm with deep expertise in life sciences, agriculture & chemicals, and diversified industries Tenthpin aim to address the impending need to shape the future of clinical supplies operations as well as harmonise clinical and commercial supply chain management systems.
SAP, Roche, and Tenthpin created an industrial consortium consisting of several stakeholders from the life sciences industry, including clinical trial and interactive response technology system vendors. Together, they will co-innovate to come up with the new, innovative, next-generation CTSM solution built on SAP S/4HANA and SAP’s industry cloud.
Peter Maier, President of Industries and Customer Advisory at SAP, shared that the collaboration is a landmark project in the German software company’s industry cloud initiative.
“Together with Roche and Tenthpin, we can now address the specific needs of clinical trial supply management and improve business and ultimately patient outcomes. By gaining greater insights into forecasted demand and clinical site stock levels, the solution will help enable faster clinical supplies cycle times, reduce inventory overage and allow informed decision-making from start to finish,” he further said.
Harnessing SAP S/4HANA and Industry Cloud
The next-gen CTSM solution that leverages the power of SAP S4/HANA and SAP’s industry cloud will address the specific blinding and randomisation needs for clinical trials to facilitate demand forecasting, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and shipments of clinical trial materials.
Aside from defining and orchestrating optimally aligned clinical supplies processes, SAP, Roche, and Tenthpin also aim to focus on the key priorities of the life sciences industry. The co-innovation partnership intends to achieve more accurate planning and better inventory management through the inclusion of clinical trial parameters, such as planned and active enrollment rates, into the supply and demand planning processes.
The next-gen CTSM solution is planned to enable:
