Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) has chosen SAP for cloud sustainability solutions to drive its next phase of digital transformation and ensure the future sustainability of its products. As one of the world’s largest producers of feed, shrimp, poultry, and pork, CP Foods aims to leverage SAP’s technology to gain strategic insights into the sustainability impact of its global operations.

CP Foods has set ambitious near- and long-term sustainability targets, validated by the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions across all scopes. By implementing SAP for cloud sustainability solutions, including SAP Sustainability Footprint Management, SAP Sustainability Control Tower, and SAP Environment Management, CP Foods will be able to record, report, and act on real-time sustainability data, driving carbon accounting at both corporate and product levels.

Prasit Boondoungprasert, Chief Executive Officer of CP Foods, emphasizes the importance of understanding and reducing the company’s environmental impact to create food that is not only safe and nutritious for consumers but also environmentally friendly. With SAP for cloud solutions, CP Foods will have automated, real-time insights into actual emissions, enabling quick and informed decision-making for sustainable operations.

Compliance with Forthcoming Carbon Regulations

SAP’s technology foundation will support CP Foods in complying with upcoming carbon regulations in various markets, such as the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (EU C-BAM) and US SEC climate risk disclosures. This proactive approach ensures that CP Foods is well-prepared for the changing regulatory landscape and can continue to operate seamlessly across borders.

As the majority of CP Foods’ emissions fall under Scope 3, reducing supply chain emissions will be a key focus for the company. In collaboration with SAP Services and YASH Technologies, CP Foods will implement SAP for cloud sustainability solutions to record and report on its Scope 1 and 2 emissions in Thailand, as well as select Scope 3 emissions for its feed business in Thailand, covering both FLAG and non-FLAG emissions. The company plans to extend the implementation scope to its global operations in the next phase.

Paul Marriott, President of SAP Asia Pacific & Japan, highlights the significant opportunity that sustainability presents for businesses across Asia. By leveraging SAP for cloud solutions, CP Foods is not only preparing for upcoming emissions regulations but also future-proofing its business by using data-driven insights to make more sustainable decisions. These insights can help the company drive operational efficiencies, optimize supply chains, and differentiate itself from competitors.

Reaching Sustainability Goals with SAP for Cloud Solutions

CP Foods is a leading integrated agro-industrial and food business with operations in 17 countries and exports to more than 50 countries, catering to over 4 billion people worldwide. The company has set a goal to become the “Sustainable Kitchen of the World” and is the first food processing company globally to have its near- and long-term forests, lands, and agriculture (FLAG) sustainability targets validated by the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

CP Foods aims to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions by 30.3% by 2030, with long-term goals of reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% and Scope 3 emissions by 72% by 2050. By adopting SAP for cloud sustainability solutions, CP Foods is taking a significant step towards achieving these ambitious targets and ensuring a sustainable future for its business and the planet.

As businesses across Asia increasingly prioritize sustainability, CP Foods serves as an example of how companies can leverage advanced technology solutions to drive sustainable growth, comply with evolving regulations, and make a positive impact on the environment.
