Genting Hong Kong, formerly known as Star Cruises Limited, and ICBC (Asia), the flagship overseas bank of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited, are two of the smart companies in Hong Kong that harness HR technologies from SAP SuccessFactors.

Hong Kong was one of the first countries that implemented strict measures, without having to order a full lockdown, to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. Like many businesses around the world, Hong Kong companies experienced sharp economic contraction, which includes HR and employment-related issues, in the first quarter of the year.

Specific to addressing the evolving HR challenges such as recruiting, developing, and retaining the workforce, SAP Hong Kong is reinforcing its support to Hong Kong companies as they navigate the road to recovery from the pandemic through SAP SuccessFactors solutions. As a leading cloud-based employee experience management solution provider, SAP SuccessFactors has been instrumental in accelerating the HR digital transformation as well as optimising local and remote operations of many companies in Hong Kong, including Genting Hong Kong and ICBC (Asia).

Fabian Padilla Crisol, Managing Director at SAP Hong Kong said:

“Smart companies understand clearly that HR operation is mission-critical to their success.”

“They see that having a productive and engaged workforce contributes considerably to operational efficiency and sustainable growth. And they realize intuitive HR technologies, such as SAP SuccessFactors, help to remove HR operation friction and recalibrate processes in response to changing needs. SAP is well-positioned to support companies to power their HR operations in the long run,” he explained.

The HXM Suite for All

Businesses of all sizes from various industries leverage SAP SuccessFactors Human Experience Management (HXM) to transform and expand HR strategies. Aside from recruitment, training, and workforce management capabilities, Successfactors’ HXM suite combines feedback with operational data to better understand people and create exceptional employee experiences.

Companies from diverse industries like hospitality, finance, property development, transportation, and retail in Hong Kong complement their HR infrastructure with SAP SuccessFactors. Such is the case of these two companies.

Genting Hong Kong

The company’s core competency is to create indelible experiences for tourists in its cruise lines and resort as a leading global leisure, entertainment, and hospitality company. Despite the pandemic putting a halt on most tourism-related activities, Genting Hong Kong remains focused on the goal of its next growth phase.

Scheduled for post-pandemic deployment, SAP SuccessFactors was chosen to support the technology-led transformation of the company’s human resource operations. This strategy aligns with the leisure company’s long-term expansion, including the management of its 16,000-strong workforce that operates over a vast network of cruise ships and outports.

ICBC (Asia)

Early this year and in commemoration of its 20th anniversary, the financial firm has deployed SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll, Onboarding, Recruiting, Compensation, HXM Suite, and Human Capital Management solutions. In no time, the company has recorded the following:

  • Increased productivity with self-service tools for over 3,000 employees
  • Streamlined onboarding and recruiting processes
  • Simplified processes and services
  • Met industry compliance and security requirements
  • Integrated its pre-existing proprietary systems with SuccessFactors.

In March, to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19 to employees, SAP SuccessFactors showcased SAP Jam Collaboration, a cloud-based enterprise collaboration platform, helps employees’ self-publish content, and share and discuss with co-workers; and SAP Learning Hub, which helps assess always-on training and social learning resources in personalised and flexible ways.

Since being part of SAP in 2012, SAP SuccessFactors has become one of the largest providers of cloud-based HCM software in the world with over 7,000 customers and 120 million users across more than 200 countries and territories. SAP SuccessFactors’ continued investment in talent acquisition has been recognised by the 2019 IDC MarketScape: Worldwide and U.S. Modern Talent Acquisition Suites for Large Enterprises.

While some global companies are looking to put up offices in Singapore, Rolling Arrays, a Singapore-based HR specialist, shares its plans to expand its business in the ANZ and greater Asian region.

Rolling Arrays announced that it would put its priorities for strategic growth on markets in Australia, New Zealand, and greater some Asian markets. And they plan to do it by leveraging SAP SuccessFactors.

SuccessFactors was acquired by SAP in 2012 for $3.4 billion. It delivers human capital management (HCM) software. At present, it has a user base of more than 120 million and services over 7,000 customers.

Channel Asia shared an interview with Manu Khetan, the founder and CEO of Rolling Arrays. Khetan shared that their priority for this year is to expand further into new markets.

In his statement, he said:

“…we intend to continue establishing that we are the de facto leader in HR transformation being a true SuccessFactors implementation provider.”

He added that the company’s years of expertise and a stable customer base built the foundation for its goals to capitalise their reputation as an early mover in the industry as well as having a reputation in the field of HR tech transformation.

Khetan further emphasised how SuccessFactors is being adopted by customers driving the company to make sure that customers are getting the best value for their business. He also noted that as customer behaviour patterns change, software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions are becoming more preferred over bespoke and on-premise software.

Rolling Arrays built its partnership with SAP in 2010, which kick-started its decade of experience in delivering consultation and implementation services for human resources. They have an impressive track record for delivering more than 150 HR transformation projects for over 75 blue-chip customers in Asia.

Khetan credited their experience to the company’s openness to small or big projects, helping them solve problems before they start an RFP or RFI process by getting to the “heart of the business needs.”

Additionally, Khetan talked about how businesses used to adopt HR technology after making investments for finance, procurement or supply chain solutions; however, they have seen companies put more focus on human capital by investing in HR solutions and services.

This 2020, Khetan said that customers now want HR solutions that are accessible, efficient, and simple. These experiences can be delivered with the help of technologies such as AI, chatbots, and machine learning.

Lastly, Khetan said that transforming HR will be met with challenges such as changes to the economy, industry, and statutory compliances. Also, other factors that may impact the transformation process are the diversity of cultures, dynamic employee demography, and globalisation.

SAP has qualified a new rapid deployment solution developed by YASH Technologies to help its customers quickly adopt SAP SuccessFactors software.

The solution incorporates pre-configured content for SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite based on well-defined options and best practices, as well as tailored HR line-of-business processes and methods. Built-in data migration templates, pre-defined test scripts and training accelerators help speed up the deployment process and reduce the cost of implementation.

“YASH has been at the forefront of helping its clients manage their critical human capital function efficiently. Combining our broad HCM domain knowledge with the in-depth capabilities of SAP SuccessFactors software, we have been helping customers drive HR transformation,” said Raj Jogam, director, SAP HCM and SF practice, YASH Technologies.

“The robust YASH solution will help accelerate time to value and reduce costs while allowing deployment flexibility. Clients will be able to leverage their existing on-premise HR technology investments and combine them with YASH software for a smart hybrid solution.”

YASH recently won an implementation contract with American Railcar Industries (ARI), a North American designer and manufacturer of hopper and tank railcars. The company said YASH’s thorough understanding of the HCM domain, flexible approach and a cost-effective offshore/on-site rapid deployment model were the principal factors behind ARI’s decision.

“YASH helped American Railcar launch SAP SuccessFactors Performance & Goals at very short notice, and we successfully launched the component through YASH’s rapid deployment offering in roughly two months,” said Ryan Olsen, talent acquisition manager, American Railcar Industries.

“We met our deadline and had all employees’ total goals and appraisals on schedule. YASH also supported our implementation of functionality for applicant tracking and succession planning. They fulfilled our expectations while using the rapid deployment solution.”

Enterprise health benefits platform Jiff will be one of the debut partners in the recently announced SAP SuccessFactors app centre, a hub for partner-produced HR enterprise apps.

Employers offering health benefits face challenges in actually getting employees to engage with and use their health benefits.

Jiff tackles this engagement problem, with three new product and services packages: Jiff Enterprise Navigator, Jiff Total Wellbeing and Jiff Launch Pad.

The solution combines real-time data, incentives and engagement best practices to make employee health benefit programs more effective, by personalising benefits for each employee.

“We’re excited to partner with SAP, which shares Jiff’s vision of connecting benefits administrators to the industry-leading apps, tools, and services they need,” said Derek Newell, CEO of Jiff. “Jiff will offer enterprise customers the tools to help bring down healthcare costs, improve employee health outcomes, and drive engagement with a wide variety of health benefits solutions.”
