SAP and Kakao Enteprise’s joint innovation aims to drive a digital business environment by leveraging AI and cloud technologies, including the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP).

Korean AI technology-based company Kakao Enterprise has signed a strategic business partnership with SAP Korea to deliver new innovative solutions that would further support the country’s digital business environment. Initiatives to be carried out under the MOU, SAP’s first business technology platform agreement with a Korean company, involve the extensive use of SAP Business Technology Platform and Kakao’s AI technology to enable organizations to streamline business operations.

“Kakao Enterprise intends to create an environment where all employees can conveniently perform work anytime, anywhere by strengthening the cooperative relationship with SAP. We will continue to strive to create a convenient and efficient business environment,“ said Sangyeop Baek, CEO of Kakao Enterprise.

SAP Korea shared that it is committed to supporting local companies’ transformation into an intelligent enterprise with cutting-edge SAP solutions. Commenting on SAP and Kakao Enterprise’s shared goal, Seong-Yeol Lee, CEO of SAP Korea, stated:

“SAP aims to achieve joint innovation so that companies can maintain the best business environment even in times of crisis, and strives to provide customized and specialized cloud solutions for each company.” Based on joint innovation with Kakao Enterprise, SAP Korea will continue to provide innovative solutions that enable companies to run their businesses well in a situation where non-face-to-face work environments are spreading.”

The upcoming SAPPHIRE NOW Asia Pacific regional event features an additional event dedicated to Korean customers. Kakao Enterprise was one of the featured SAP partners that shared about achieving successful virtual business conversion.

SAP Business Technology Platform and Kakao Work Integration

Kakao Enterprises announced in February that it would expand the function of Kakao Work, a business messenger platform that resembles KakaoTalk, in collaboration with SAP. The first domestic collaboration tool to install SAP BTP on Kakao Work intends to support a mobile electronic payment system for domestic corporate infrastructure, which is essential in today’s non-face-to-face working environment.

The joint innovation dubbed as ‘SAP x Kakao Work’, an SAP Cloud Platform-based solution, is one of the initiatives under the agreement that utilizes bots based on Kakao Work and SAP BTP. To date, various bots have been launched, helping users easily handle tasks such as notifications, consideration, purchase, payment, and sales management. For instance, an ‘expense processing bot’ in Kakao Work enables users to quickly process corporate card expenses– from sending notifications to receiving payment approval. Kakao Enterprise plans to introduce a purchase request/approval bot to handle orders, receipt management, and quality inspection; and a sales management bot to quickly check the creation of order documents and slips, among others.

Driving the digital workplace ambition, SAP and Kakao Enterprise will integrate select SAP solutions in the areas of sales, purchasing, and production management as well as SAP’s third-party services with Kakao Work. Together, they envision pioneering new business areas by leveraging AI engines and technologies such as natural language processing, vision, and translation to SAP BTP. Aside from developing a conversational AI based on the Korean language, SAP and Kakao Enterprise also intend to introduce an interactive AI covering major Asian languages in the future.
