How SAP’s Intelligent RPA Drive Business Process Transformation

Implementing SAP’s Intelligent RPA (SAP iRPA) in various industries has resulted in a diverse range of successful use cases, including the development of an end-to-end smart system for a polymer factory and the automation of customer orders needed in the efficient distribution of pharmaceutical products.

By 2025, the software industry that enables hyperautomation is expected to reach almost $860 billion, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.3{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22}, according to Gartner’s research titled “Forecast Analysis: Hyperautomation Enablement Software, Worldwide.” The high demand for hyperautomation is fuelled by a pressing need for digital transformation and automation of business and IT systems in today’s economy. Additionally, hyperautomation technologies such as SAP’s Intelligent Robotic Process Automation are often used by businesses to build bots that mirror human users and automate repetitive and monotonous tasks that are otherwise time-consuming.

Earlier last year, SAP RPA was also named a Strong Performer in The Forrester Wave: Robotic Process Automation, Q1 2021. As stated in the report, the German tech giant’s solution is a strong alternative for its customers, especially for organisations concerned with bots interfering with core SAP systems and those who typically require the central SAP development team to design, create, and manage RPA in order to ensure clear accountability.

As part of its ongoing efforts to establish an extensive customer and partner community with a lot of collective experiences, best practices, as well as shared challenges and successes, SAP recently hosted a webinar called “SAP BTP CVN – Optimize & Accelerate Business Process Automation for the Intelligent Enterprise”. In collaboration with global software and technology services company CraveInfoTech, the virtual event showcased how SAP iRPA drives digital transformation of business processes by automating tasks that offer no value to the overall system. Combined with machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and conversational AI (CAI), SAP iRPA aims to deliver the most effective out-of-the-box intelligent process automation for businesses while remaining tightly integrated with the SAP’s digital core.

Driving Digital Transformation with SAP’s Intelligent RPA

Andre Borchert, Vice President and Head of Intelligent RPA Solution Management, Technology & Innovation at SAP SE, explained that SAP BTP is the enabler in using technology in the context of extending, enriching, and digitising SAP applications. He added that the platform includes a wide range of services for automation, workflows, conversational AI, data-driven automation, as well as a comprehensive Integration Suite. He continued:

“Give the tooling to a wide audience of IT professionals, but also business users to automate and digitise and also build applications and extensions and to expose it back to the business users. That is SAP’s promise.”

“Process automation has always been at the heart of SAP. The underlying foundation for that is the Business Technology Platform that brings application development to automation, integration, data and analytics that really helps you to easily extend processes and drive automation by leveraging pre-built content,” Borchert further said.

Meanwhile, Shrikant Nistane, Chief Executive Officer and Digital Transformation Architect at Crave InfoTech, stated that the company’s goal is to take the digital transformation wagon to the peak of automation, efficiency, process visibility, and actionable insights that are immediately accessible to the industry. As an SAP partner, he noted that the organisation is aware that RPA in conjunction with SAP BTP can actually deliver right from the point of deployment and for an indefinite period after that.

Helping SAP Customers Achieve Scalability and Growth

During SAP’s recently concluded webinar, speakers also discussed different customer stories and successes across the globe. Hemant Rachh, GTM Lead, APJ & GC, SAP Intelligent RPA at SAP Asia Pte Ltd, said that more than 2000 customers are utilising SAP iRPA although they are very late into the RPA market. He added that customers are leveraging RPA, both for SAP and non-SAP applications.

As an example, Rachh noted that global edge-to-cloud company Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) uses Intelligent RPA to streamline IT operations and improve user experiences. The organisation’s workflows are automated using a preconfigured AI platform that is enabled by RPA.

He then went on to talk about Zuellig Pharma’s successful implementation of SAP iRPA for the automation of customer orders needed in the efficient distribution of pharmaceutical goods. The company, which is one of Asia’s largest healthcare service providers, decided to leverage SAP iRPA and SAP Conversational AI services to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of implementing SAP’s solutions, Zuellig Pharma was able to fulfill customer orders significantly faster.

According to Rachh, the pharma giant has deployed SAP Intelligent RPA across multiple countries and geographies. He further detailed:

“They automated completely zero-touch sales order processing using SAP Intelligent RPA and SAP BTP capabilities. They now have more than 100 robots running across different functions, including behind their mobile applications.”

Another remarkable customer success story is that of global food and beverage manufacturer Döhler which has used the SAP iRPA solution to accelerate accounting processes and automate tasks while reducing errors and waiting times. With the help of SAP Partner Solvia, the company was able to increase productivity and eliminate human errors using cloud technology.

Furthermore, SAP’s Intelligent RPA supports a cloud-based studio with browser-based low-code tools that facilitate automation development, such as visual programming capabilities for creating business workflows. Today, these new RPA tools are democratising automation by making it available to any enterprise that wishes to use them.

“We are seeing the customers who earlier adopted other competitor tools have been now shifting towards SAP Intelligent RPA. So from that aspect, SAP Intelligent RPA gives you complete scalability, reliability, and enterprise quality,” Rachh concluded.
