Four days ago, Google announced its acquisition of CloudSimple with a purpose in mind – to help customers migrate to the cloud easily. CloudSimple is one of the leading providers of environments that run VMware workloads in the cloud.
In an article published by Channel Futures, Kelly Teal shared that the acquisition, together with the launch of the new Cloud Acceleration Program, could be a way to compete against AWS. They have highlighted two important deals that were closed by Google within the same week. The first one was the acquisition of CloudSimple and the other being with SAP. The move benefits enterprises because it helps make the migration process for the cloud workloads onto the Google Cloud Platform much easier. The relationship of Google between the CloudSimple and SAP helped increase its market share, which also impacts revenue.
Rich Sanzi, the vice president of engineering of Google Cloud Platform, shared in a blog post that many enterprises are leveraging VMware for their on-premise environments for different kinds of workloads. He pointed out that enterprise customers were looking for an easier way to migrate to the cloud. In a statement, he emphasised the purpose of the customers for wanting such a platform:
“They want to be able to run what they want, where they want, and how they want — so they can leverage existing investments with as little toil as possible.”
Sanzi added that with the acquisition of CloudSimple will run the VMware workload similarly as it did on the site; however, some benefits can be gained from this relationship. These benefits include elasticity, integration with key cloud services and technologies, and performance. He also assured customers that in the process, customers would no longer have to worry about rebuilding the existing VMware-based platforms.
He said:
“We believe in a multi-cloud world and will continue to provide choice for our customers to use the best technology in their journey to the cloud.”
In a blog post, Guru Pangal, CloudSimple’s CEO, expressed excitement to be a part of Google Cloud and said that he looks forward to helping customers move enterprise workloads to the cloud. He shared:
“We are incredibly excited to be part of Google Cloud and look forward to accelerating our ability to help customers easily move their enterprise workloads to the cloud.”
The new Cloud Acceleration Program was an evolution of the Lighthouse launched by Google. The said program has system integrators that will move SAP clients to the cloud.
Rob Eslin, the president of global customer operations at Google Cloud, shared in a blog post the benefits of participating in the Cloud Acceleration Program which includes “new architecture templates, accelerators, and SAP-focused support, in addition to partner-led assessment services, prototyping, and centers of excellence dedicated to SAP on GCP.”
