Sharing on the company’s move to the cloud,  Cynthia Kendall, Director at Jabil IT Advisory Services, said:

“Because we use the SAP HANA Cloud database, the processing speed is very fast. In addition, moving the ERP application to the cloud has greatly improved the transparency and scalability of our business. What used to take hours or more to review all open sales slips for each facility is now visible in just a few seconds.”

Jabil serves original equipment manufacturers and hundreds of top brands across multiple end-markets and industries. Striving to be the to be the most technologically advanced and trusted manufacturing solutions provider in the world, the multinational manufacturer merges unmatched end-market experience with technical and design capabilities, manufacturing, supply chain and global product management expertise.

Jabil Moving to the Cloud

As an innovative solutions provider, companies trust the multi-billion dollar company for many aspects of manufacturing, from product design to engineering and mass production, to assembly, quality testing, procurement and logistics. Jabil’s global business employs 250,000 workforce and serves customers across 30 countries, which necessitates digitization to ensure operations are unhampered, supply chains connected and customer service delivered excellently.

“Inventory management has become more efficient, and material inventory data can now be obtained in real time as the product is completed. During the SAP Sapphire in Orlando and ASUG Annual Conference, Kendall shared about SAP and Jabil’s partnership , with the enterprise software firm supporting the manufacturer’s cloud-first strategy. Among the common business goals of the two companies include commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Migrating the manufacturing corporation’s ERP application to SAP S/4HANA Cloud is one example of their collaborative efforts to drive innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation. Explaining about how the cloud ERP transformation allowed for more flexibility across the organization, Kendall stated:

“Since moving to the cloud, we have been resizing our app servers. This used to take days, but now it can be done in hours. , reducing time spent on server administration, so our business can explore ways to transform and innovate in this new SAP S/4HANA landscape in ways never before possible. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the middle of a long time.”

She also mentioned several remarkable results since the deployment of the SAP cloud ERP such as capability to meet the evolving compliance requirements and customer needs across markets and create a resilient supply chain.  Kendall detailed:

“We are now able to seize many opportunities that were previously inaccessible. Especially in production planning, we are able to make faster, more informed decisions. Even if we face a shortage of parts from the chain, we will be able to decide in advance and agilely what we can produce and when.”

Having experienced working with SAP for Jabil’s digital transformation journey, the IT Director advised:

“Accept the fact that you need to migrate to SAP S/4HANA and start planning today. ”

The global manufacturer recently launched the SAP S4-as-a-Service offering under Jabil IT Advisory Services to help companies streamline migrations to SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

The SAP AI Hub aligns with Singapore’s National AI Strategy, which intends to optimize artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to deliver strong social and economic development.

Demonstrating its commitment to fostering local digital talent alongside boosting the SAP ecosystem and community engagement with deep tech innovations, SAP Labs Singapore announced that it will be investing in 200 AI engineers to become the tech giant’s AI Hub and center of excellence.

This latest news was shared at the German company’s first-ever developer community conference in the country, the SAP d-com Singapore. Present in the event was Clas Neumann, Senior Vice President, Head of Global SAP Labs Network, and Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity, who delivered a keynote centered around developing and harnessing the next-generation digital talents of Singapore to future-proof the growth of the nation.

The SAP AI Hub development follows a year after the launch of SAP Labs Singapore, a digital innovation hub established in partnership with the Economic Development Board (EDB) to accelerate research and development for SAP key solutions in the region. Under the SAP Labs investment, the tech multinational will be doubling its existing product engineering with the addition of over 500 highly skilled digital professionals locally by 2025. Aside from driving innovation on deep technologies such as AI and machine learning, SAP Labs Singapore is also anticipated to accelerate digital supply chain transformation, strengthen intelligent business networks and develop sustainability solutions.

AI Hub to Help Future-proof Singapore

Manik Saha, managing director for SAP Labs Singapore and recently named one of the 2023 SG Digital Leaders by IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority), stressed that one of the objectives of the institution is to house over 400 highly-skilled digital professionals in the country by 2025. He detailed:

“The expansion of AI capabilities is a major step towards that goal and furthers our mission to develop high-quality Singapore-based engineers with future-proof skills to build software and solutions for the world. We look forward to forging deeper partnerships with both the public and private sectors to sharpen Singapore’s AI ambition and capabilities.”

Employing competent development teams for the SAP AI hub positions Singapore to be a core AI development location of the enterprise software firm. The 200 highly-skilled engineers– including the 50 hired within the past three months– will be integral to the development of SAP solutions built around AI, which will be offered to the global customers of the tech company. The newly created AI roles for the Hub are also intended to boost the budding careers of Singapore’s young talents from local universities and higher learning institutions.

Supporting the National AI Strategy

Furthermore, SAP Labs Singapore’s AI hub aligns with the country’s National AI Strategy, which supports the country’s 2030 ambition of becoming “a leader in developing and deploying scalable, impactful AI solutions, in key sectors of high value and relevance to our citizens and businesses.” Leveraging AI in transforming the economy, the strategy plans to :

  • Identify areas to focus attention and resources on at a national level
  • Set out how the Government, companies, and researchers can work together to realize the positive impact of AI
  • Address areas where attention is needed to manage change and/or manage new forms of risks that emerge when AI becomes more pervasive

“Singapore has a strong National AI Strategy to drive innovation and adoption across our digital economy,” commented Eileen Chua, managing director of SAP Singapore. “With generative AI revolutionizing many of our industries, changing how we work and how our customers are interacting with our software, Singapore organizations are looking to an experienced partner like SAP to help innovate and expand at scale with intelligence embedded responsibly into our business applications and processes.”

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for the new roles in the SAP AI Hub at the SAP Careers site.

Consistent with the key takeaway of the recently concluded SAP SAPPHIRE 2023 in Orlando, SAP NOW tackled opportunities to help future-proof operations of Hong Kong businesses.

Customers and partners of SAP Hong Kong attended the in-person customer summit SAP NOW held on June 8 at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel. SAP NOW Hong Kong 2023 themed “Partner for The Next Leap” featured inspiring customer success stories, innovative cloud technologies, and a new experience center that would help enterprises propel their sustainable journey to the cloud.

“It is our honor to host hundreds of delegates from SAP customers and partners in person at SAP NOW Hong Kong this year. In recent years, Hong Kong enterprises are now accelerating technology adoption to capture new growth,” expressed Esmond Tong, Managing Director of SAP Hong Kong. “Having supported local enterprises and industries for over 30 years, SAP Hong Kong understands the new challenges and opportunities that they are facing. With a strong commitment to Hong Kong and the most complete enterprise cloud solution portfolio, we are well-positioned to support enterprises in their digital transformation for years to come.”

Event Highlights

During the event, SAP and business leaders shared their expertise and insights on how businesses today can thrive and be future-ready leveraging the right technology along with a competent workforce. Andrew Ma, Chief Technology Officer of eLab Asia, A.S. Watson Group; Philip Wixon, HR Transformation Lead of Hong Kong Jockey Club; and Matthew TC Wong, Director, Commercial Analytics and Digital Solutions, SEAHKT, Swire Coca-Cola were among the keynote speakers who discussed macro-economic trends and insights to future-proof businesses for success.

A panel discussion led by Jungle Wong, Partner, Consulting, Deloitte China, talked about the significance of digital transformation with Mr. Alex Chan, General Manager, Digital Transformation, Hong Kong Productivity Council, and Mr. Simon Ng, CEO, Business Environment Council, referencing the recently published business outlook report “Thriving in Hong Kong, a City of Resilience and Opportunities” developed by Deloitte and commissioned by SAP.

One of the key highlights of the SAP NOW event was the announcement of the establishment of the SAP Hong Kong Cloud ERP Experience Center. The center intends to accelerate Hong Kong companies’, especially midsize enterprises’, move to the cloud with simplicity and predictability harnessing a cost-effective and scalable platform. The institution will be harnessing the power of SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP Business Technology Platform along with driving collaboration among SAP’s ecosystem partners.

Hong Kong Businesses Ready for the Future

Following the keynote, attendees of SAP NOW Hong Kong 2023 had the chance to pick and choose from three tracks such as Next Generation Platform for Digital Transformation, which highlighted AI, machine learning, and automation; Cloud ERP – Mission Critical for Growing Enterprises, which discussed Cloud-based ERP technology as a mission-critical asset to growing businesses; and Change Work for Good, which showcased the latest technology and strategies to support workplace and workforce transformation.

In the keynote of Dr. Chenhong Huang, SAP Global Executive Vice President and SAP Greater China President, he explained:

“Hong Kong enterprises are at the threshold of a new phase of growth. On the one hand, Hong Kong is a launchpad for global expansion with its demographic advantages, international business environment, and diversity of financial and professional services. But on the other hand, enterprises are accelerating digital transformation to address cost pressure, supply chain stability, talent shortage, and new expectations around environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance. SAP will elevate our support to enable customers to drive efficiency and build sustainability, working together with companies and partners.”

The SAP Environmental Sustainability Report released early this year reported that the majority (55%) of businesses in the country recognize how sustainability directly affects business success, competitiveness, and revenue growth of a company. According to the SAP report, Hong Kong enterprises are aware of the significant role of sustainability in their financials. More than 40% said that environmental issues are either already affecting business outcomes or will do within five years. Almost the same percentage of the companies (≈40%) have sustainability strategies in place to bolster revenue and profit growth and develop new products and services.

India, along with Brazil and Germany, was reported to have remarkable cloud revenues in SAP’s Q1 2023 financial statement.

SAP has been in India for about 27 years– more than half of the global enterprise’s fifty years of existence driving innovation and future-proofing businesses around the world through cutting-edge solutions and services. The country is home to the tech giant’s largest R&D center outside Germany, SAP Labs India, comprised of teams from Bengaluru and Gurgaon that provide services to 450,000 customers worldwide.

On SAP’s outstanding presence in the country, Kulmeet Bawa, President & MD, SAP Indian Subcontinent, said:

“It’s been a very exciting 25 years for SAP because while the Indian economy has grown about 10x in the last 25 years, today, we end up touching more than 60 percent of India’s GDP, just through SAP and its partner ecosystem. I call it the nation-building story for us.”

Riding SAP’s Cloud Momentum

Specific to the German company’s pivot to the cloud, Indian businesses of various sizes and industries’ adoption of SAP’s cloud portfolio of solutions and services have significantly contributed to the enterprise software multinational’s cloud revenues. India’s huge potential and dramatic market growth have been commended by SAP leaders, including CEO Christian Klein, during the in-person flagship event SAP Sapphire in Orlando, Florida.

Thomas Saueressig, Member of the Executive Board of SAP SE for SAP Product Engineering, shared in an interview in Bengaluru that India has been the fastest-growing market in the Asia Pacific and Japan in recent years, doubling its cloud revenues for seven consecutive quarters year-over-year (YOY). He detailed that 70 percent of India’s GDP at some point leverages an SAP system, which demonstrates the impact of the company’s solution offerings in the country.

“So, we see the significance of SAP in India and for sure with that we know that we have an obligation to further help and support in this digital transformation,” stressed Saueressig.

In the Q1 2023 financials of SAP, the company saw a 24 percent YOY growth in cloud revenue at €3.18 billion and up 22 percent at constant currencies. In addition, the Walldorf-based company’s current cloud backlog grew by 25% to €11.15 billion, with a 78% increase in the cloud backlog of SAP S/4HANA. Cloud gross profit rose by 28% (IFRS) to €2.24 billion.

Indian Enterprises Rising with SAP

SAP’s concierge offering RISE with SAP has garnered numerous customers from around the world including India– from big conglomerates to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Bawa earlier shared that SAP in India is contributing 13-15% to SAP’s global RISE business division (Cloud ERP) and has doubled its cloud customers in the recent two years.

Most recently, Air India has joined the roster of SAP cloud customers, such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro Limited, Best Value Chem Private Limited, and HCLTech, that have all migrated their key digital operations to the cloud. In April, India’s leading airline and a Star Alliance member announced that it has completed its ERP migration leveraging RISE with SAP, a Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) offering.

“We are glad to have completed this migration successfully, using a high level of creativity in overcoming the challenges that came our way,” Air India’s Chief Digital and Technology Officer, Dr. Satya Ramaswamy. “We are very grateful to the fantastic team from SAP that worked with us hand-in-hand to execute this transition flawlessly, and ahead of schedule.”

“Air India is one of the most iconic brands in the country, and we’re thrilled to deepen our long-standing partnership, as they enter a new chapter in their journey to become a world-class airline serving global customers, with a proud Indian heart,” Bawa commented. “With SAP’s cutting-edge cloud technology, Air India will enhance its customer experience, become an intelligent, sustainable enterprise, and accelerate people transformation as key elements of its growth,” he added.

As for the latest cloud-native ERP software for SMEs, GROW with SAP, Saueressig mentioned the huge potential in the robust mid-market of India. He highlighted that about 80 percent of SAP customers in the country are mid-size businesses that are anticipated to further drive growth.

The latest SAP ERP solution designed for midsize companies, GROW with SAP, includes products, best-practice support, adoption acceleration services, a global partner ecosystem, and learning opportunities to help customers use SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition with speed, predictability, and continuous innovation.

Enterprise software giant SAP unveiled its newest modern cloud ERP specifically designed for mid-market organizations, a little over two years since the launch of RISE with SAP offering that garnered massive adoption by global companies and accelerated SAP’s pivot to the cloud. Dubbed GROW with SAP, the ready-to-run cloud ERP harnesses the tech multinational’s in-depth industry knowledge based on decades of experience and the power of advanced cloud technology to help midsize companies drive innovation and improve business agility.

Verena Siow, president and managing director of SAP Southeast Asia, shared during the launch of GROW with SAP held in Phuket, Thailand that since the pandemic, small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) have shown marked uptake of the SAP cloud portfolio. The German company is ensuring that the SMEs, which take a big chunk (80%) of SAP customers in the region, are empowered to keep pace with the rapidly changing digital economy.

“Digital has become the forefront for companies to survive and continue running their operations,” commented Siow. “We see huge interest from SMEs because they can’t rely on Excel and custom apps anymore. That’s why we launched Grow with SAP to help them run faster, be more agile, and deploy cloud ERP more easily.”

Modern SAP ERP Solution for SMEs

GROW with SAP enables midmarket companies seamlessly move to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition, with confidence in optimizing industry best practices, supporting ready-to-go and pre-configured processes to drive business growth and innovation. In addition, the new ERP solution enables midsize enterprises to engage with customers and get support from SAP’s global partner ecosystem.

As a true exemplar of innovation and collaborative alliances, SAP is partnering with Thailand’s I AM Consulting and Delaware to drive the GROW with SAP offering in Southeast Asia.

“The biggest advantage of S/4 HANA public cloud is that you can start with a limited scope at a very fast pace of six to eight weeks, so the entry point is quite easy,“ said Christophe Derdeyn, partner and director of Delaware’s Singapore and international business. “And from an internal operations perspective, you will need an implementation provider like us, but once you go live in the initial phase, you don’t need to have a big IT team. Over time, you can adopt new functionalities and evolve the platform as you grow as an organization.”

SAP’s chief partner officer in Southeast Asia, Vipin Chandran, explained the significant role of SAP partners in the successful adoption of GROW with SAP in the region that will ultimately help SMEs embark on business transformation with faster deployment and ROI despite the lack of in-house IT support. Down the line, SAP will tap the Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal, and Bhutan markets along with regional cities such as Surabaya in Indonesia and Danang in Vietnam.

According to Siow, early adopters of GROW with SAP could be new customers with greenfield implementations of S/4 HANA Cloud, with financial transformation as a key priority followed by other capabilities such as supply chain management. One of the pioneer customers of the GROW program is Singapore’s Temasek Public Resilience Infectious Disease Emergency (T-Pride) fund, which was established at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“By moving to the cloud and leveraging Grow with SAP as our digital core, we are able to enhance the way we operate with greater governance and visibility while continuing to deliver on our mission,” stated Judy Hoie, CEO of T-Pride.

GROW with SAP Features

Here are some features and benefits of the GROW with SAP offering:

  • Includes packaged activation services for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition, with experts to support ready-to-run processes to speed deployment timeline and improve time-to-value
  • Being a Software as a Service (SaaS) offering, companies can move to the cloud at a predictable cost and time frame
  • Includes the SAP Activate process, utilizing an innovation-as-a-service methodology that offers self-service tools to help enterprises choose capabilities that are tailor-made according to their needs
  • Includes SAP Business Technology Platform that features SAP Build, allowing both experienced coders and citizen developers to build applications and business sites rapidly as well as automate processes without coding
  • Offers Access to SAP Learning portfolio and SAP Community

The first phase of Fujitsu’s move to a single SAP ERP – the SAP S/4HANA hosted in Microsoft Azure– will be implemented in its headquarters within fiscal 2024.

Fujitsu, a longstanding SAP partner, is deepening its alliance with the German software company under a five-year plan to move all its ERP systems on SAP S4/HANA. The project dubbed OneERP+ is designed to implement a standardized ERP across its global operations and position Fujitsu as a digital transformation company– in a repositioning costing around $760 million.

The multi-year DX project was the brainchild of Fujitsu CEO Takahito Tokita and is led by EVP and chief data and process officer Shunsuke Baba according to The Register. The multinational technology company, which currently has about 124,200 employees, is expected to take in an additional 1,500 employees during the peak of the project implementation.

According to Baba, the OneERP+ program was launched in the second half of 2020 with the objective of building “a foundation to support the purpose-driven and data-driven management”. Fujitsu currently runs over 4,000 systems for internal business and multiple instances of SAP-based systems along with those developed in-house for ERP. Sharing about the hurdles of the strategic shift, he added:

“There are many different business processes and systems for each business and region. One of our key challenges is how to thoroughly standardize all business process data and simplify it as a basic system.”

Moving to One SAP ERP

The mammoth undertaking aims to move all of Fujitsu’s ERP systems to a single SAP S/4HANA platform, hosted in Microsoft Azure and streamline various business processes throughout its global operations. Furthermore, SaaS front-end applications are pegged to run in Azure along with other instances hosted by AWS.

“Our goal with the initiative is to organize and integrate them all at once to standardize and streamline operations in a holistic manner,” Baba added.

The ERP integration project includes managing multiple key business processes such as sales, accounting, procurement, and project management data, among many others. As part of the five-year plan, Fujitsu has been leveraging SAP Concur since fiscal 2022.

“This is a very challenging project, and although it is actually promoted with the inclusion of add-on development, it is not merely an ERP introduction project but is also promoted as a large-scale reform project at the management level on the premise of a large-scale transformation of business processes,” explained Baba. “The organization consists of a team that designs business transformation from a business perspective and a team that implements it as an IT system.”

He highlighted that Fujitsu aims to illustrate to its customers a successful digital transformation and encourage them to embark on their own DX journey. Baba said that the company has the mission to showcase reference models of practical knowledge based on Fujitsu’s own experience and by being the ‘first penguin’ to take the plunge.

As an exemplar of DX with a 40-year global partnership with SAP in technology and services, Fujitsu has recently been recognized as the newest SAP partner to join the Regional Strategic Services Partner (RSSP) initiative launched in Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) to further reinforce the SAP ecosystem within the region. Fujitsu’s participation in the SAP RSSP effort is a major step in realizing the company’s ambition for “Business Applications” to facilitate more sustainable business transformation as part of Fujitsu Uvance, the company’s portfolio of global solutions aimed at realizing a sustainable world.

MSRIT, an autonomous engineering college located in Bangalore, houses 23 departments for engineering, mathematics, physics, and humanities and is recognized as one of the best Engineering and Architecture institutions under VTU (Visveswaraya Technological University).

SAP Labs India, the biggest R&D center outside Germany of tech giant SAP, continues to deepen its alliance with the academia as reflected in its latest collaborative partnership with the private engineering college Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT). Under the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two institutions have committed to making headway for various projects hinged on research and technological innovation.

“Industry-academia partnerships are essential for advancing research and development, fostering innovation, and providing economic benefits. SAP Labs India’s partnership with MSRIT is yet another step to foster our commitment to deepen industry-academia collaboration and explore synergies around emerging and new technologies,” commented Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP & MD, SAP Labs India and Head, SAP User Enablement. “We are also excited about introducing MSRIT students to entrepreneurship with the Young Upstarts program which aims at empowering young minds with the necessary technical and leadership skills to help shape their innovative ideas into successful ventures.”

In 2022, SAP Labs India has spearheaded several initiatives designed to support the future-skilling of the nation’s citizens. One of which is the innovation partnership with the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) that launched a brand new 16 -month-long management course to upskill managers’ knowledge of Artificial Intelligence encompassing Machine Learning, Statistical Learning, and Deep Learning.

SAP Labs India and MSRIT for Youth Upskilling

Today, SAP Labs India forges to be an exemplar of innovation that supports workforce readiness of both students and professionals together with MSRIT.

One of the first programs of the alliance commenced this year in February with the launch of the SAP program Young Upstarts, an initiative by SAP Startup Studio & REACH (Research Engagement and Collaboration Hub) to empower students to jump-start their entrepreneurial journey. True to the design of SAP Startup Studio, the startup accelerator of SAP Labs India, Young Upstarts offers students in-person sessions from SAP focused on honing entrepreneurial mindset, and business skills including drafting pitches and other key business values critical to launching a startup that would thrive in the ever-changing business environment. Learning sessions are held on the MSRIT campus.

Here are the other initiatives included in the SAP Labs India and MSRIT MoU:

Young Upstarts

The program participants will have the opportunity to broaden their technical skills through mentoring sessions with experienced professionals. The student-partner initiative will also allow two student partners or campus ambassadors to join SAP Labs India and MSRIT’s developmental programs.

All-India Hackathon

The hackathon participants, assisted by their mentors, are expected to create tech-based solutions that will solve problem statements provided by SAP’s business team. The event will be held on the MSRIT campus to be participated by university students from across India.

Academia Alumni Network (AAN)

MSRIT will be one of the pioneer institutions of AAN, a special interest group to be launched as part of REACH.

Joint-Branding

SAP Labs India and MSRIT will also collaborate for collaborative branding operations in designated locations on the MSRIT campus.

Sharing about the latest business-university partnership, N. V. R. Naidu, Principal, Ramaiah Institute of Technology, said:

“The joint efforts of MSRIT and SAP Labs India will help students unleash their latent potential and enable them to learn, explore and grow under the guidance of industry experts. We are looking forward to a fruitful association and are excited for our students to be able to contribute to technological advancements for SAP’s customers globally.”

Along with the development of cloud-based ERP Systems, SAP and LG CNS aim to engage in a deeper go-to-market (GTM) strategy not only in South Korea but worldwide.

LG CNS, a leading information technology services and solutions provider in South Korea has sealed a strategic alliance with German tech giant SAP in a bid to bolster the development of next-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.) The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony held at SAP headquarters in Waldorf, Germany was attended by high-ranking executives from the two companies. including SAP CEO Christian Klein, LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-kyun, and Head of SAP Enterprise Cloud Services and SAP Sovereign Cloud Services, Peter Pluim.

“SAP is working together with more than 24,000 SAP partners around the world that are rich in capabilities such as LG CNS to help customers innovate,” expressed Pluim. “Through this agreement, we can accelerate SAP’s efforts to support digital transformation with LG CNS and help it become a sustainable intelligent company.“

Pluim shared that SAP, in partnership with LG CNS, pledges to drive innovation in building customer-centric solutions and services.

Building Next-Gen, Cloud-based ERP Systems

SAP Korea has launched several initiatives last year to accelerate cloud adoption in the country in collaboration with both government and private organizations– from introducing the SAP Young Next Cloud Academy, a completely free, hands-on cloud-based education program in partnership with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry to delivering efficient and effective public cloud services under an MoU signed with NAVER Cloud and Cloud4C

This week, SAP Korea reinforced its commitment to accelerate the cloud’s momentum in the domestic market by establishing a co-innovation partnership with LG CNS, a subsidiary of LG Corporation that specializes in digital transformation (DX) leveraging AI, Data, and Cloud. Specifically, the alliance is pegged to develop and operate new ERP systems harnessing SAP S/4HANA for the Korean corporate market, including LG affiliates and, consequently, for the company’s international business.

Under the MoU, SAP will provide training on SAP Enterprise Cloud Service (SAP ECS) processes and IT tools to enable LG CNS to provide TechOps services to customers. From the alliance’s current collaboration model, the multinationals are looking to expand to Managed Service Model and Cloud Application Services. In addition, they will be exploring joint go-to-market opportunities harnessing SAP and LG CNS’ intelligent solutions and expertise as well as creating innovative solutions leveraging SAP technology.

Most recently, LG CNS has become a global strategic partner operating SAP S/4HANA, providing ERP services for the Korean and global markets across industries. The joint initiative with SAP Korea will support LG CNS’ plans to integrate application modernization (AM), artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning with ERP– strengthening its role as a provider of cloud-based ERP systems to help domestic and international customers remain agile, intelligent, and sustainable amidst changing business landscapes.

“This partnership is an opportunity for LG CNS to bring its next-generation ERP capabilities to a global level, and for SAP to expand its customer reach in the Korean market,” LG CNS CEO said. “We will work together to support our customers in their DX transformation journeys.”

Following through with its cloud transformation initiatives in 2022, Tontec has expanded its partnership with SAP for supply chain modernization.

Global plastics producer Tontec International Limited (Tontec) is expanding its strategic partnership with German tech giant SAP to propel a digital supply chain transformation. Leveraging the SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain (SAP IBP) solution, the Hong Kong-based company intends to modernize its supply chain to strengthen its position as a key player and a competent partner of top businesses in the aerospace, automotive, industrial appliances & equipment, office appliances, and medical devices industries.

Nelson Lam, Tontec President, stated that the manufacturer is steadfast in its transformation goals towards Industry 4.0, especially being acknowledged as a worldwide leader in the design and production of plastic injection molds and moldings. On selecting SAP IBP to deliver on the supply chain modernization initiative, he stressed:

“Thus, it is imperative that our supply chain planning processes are harmonized on one platform. With SAP IBP, we can make use of real-time data from multiple functions and locations and align our planning with our financial targets in collaboration with customers and suppliers. This improves the accuracy of our forecasts and the efficiency of our planning processes to significantly impact our working capital, operating costs, and income.”

Tontec and SAP for Supply Chain Modernization

Tontec is one of many enterprises in Hong Kong that have been utilizing SAP integration technologies to drive automation and deliver networking solutions for enhanced product customization, higher quality, and shorter delivery times, having 11 high-tech manufacturing facilities across the world.

In February 2022, Tontec initiated a wider digital transformation upgrading its current SAP S/4HANA system to the Private Cloud Edition to provide the enterprise with improved capabilities to better manage their critical processes, such as financial reporting and disaster recovery, and respond to changing business conditions with greater speed and flexibility. The company selected RISE with SAP along with SAP Integration Suite to help its customers journey to smart manufacturing by accelerating innovation, agility, and responsiveness.

Continuing its modernization momentum towards Industry 4.0, Tontec has slated to launch its digital supply chain transformation journey harnessing the cloud-based SAP IBP for Supply Chain. Powered by SAP HANA, SAP IBP combines sales and operations planning (S&OP), forecasting and demand, response and supply, demand-driven replenishment, and inventory planning, allowing Tontec to deliver enhanced customer service and reduce costs.

Having a wide network of manufacturing plants worldwide, including three development centers, the SAP supply chain solution will empower the manufacturer to manage its complex global supply chains by synchronizing supply chain planning in real-time– ensuring business continuity amidst disruptions.

“Fast and accurate business planning is vital for manufacturers in an operating environment that is more challenging than ever, with fluctuating demand, long supply lead times, and logistics disruption,” commented Esmond Tong, Managing Director, SAP Hong Kong. “SAP IBP enables companies throughout the supply chain to handle these challenges and work together to be more agile and resilient. Market leaders like Tontec are leading the way to create an efficient and highly digitalized system with tangible business benefits.”

Tontec will be deploying Demand Planning and Sales and Operations Planning modules in SAP IBP to boost responsiveness and efficiency. Demand Planning will enable the Hong Kong-headquartered enterprise to generate data-based demand forecasts, allowing it to continuously monitor segmented internal and external data sources and create a balanced action plan. Sales and Operations Planning, which supports cross-functional process orchestration and collaboration with suppliers, will offer Tontec the capability to assess multiple key constraints over an extended forecast horizon to help achieve financial targets.
