German software multinational SAP kicked off February with the announcement of the winners of 2022 Regional SAP Partner Excellence Awards, giving away over 80 awards to top-performing SAP partners across Asia Pacific Japan (APJ), Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) North, EMEA South, Latin America Caribbean (LAC), and North America.

The SAP Partner Excellence Awards is celebrated across various regions where the German software enterprise has established a strong market footprint supported by its SAP partners. SAP recognises partners that deliver groundbreaking innovations in specific categories utilising SAP technologies and services to help their shared customers become intelligent, sustainable enterprises.

APJ SAP Awards for Partner Excellence

This years’ winners, which were evaluated based on several key factors such as sales, innovation, technology, services, and solution-specific areas, were recognised for their outstanding contribution to delivering innovation, sustainability, and a fast time-to-value to SAP customers. energyOS, Abeam Consulting, EY, and Tech Mahindra were among the 15 SAP top-performing partners in various categories in the APJ region. 

RISE with SAP for New Logos

ABeam Consulting Ltd., a Japanese business consulting company, received the RISE with SAP S/4HANA New Logos Partner. The award recognises the company’s project achievements as one of the pioneer adopters of SAP’s comprehensive, Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) offering RISE with SAP.

Technology Adoption

energyOS, an Australian provider of digital services for utilities, received the SAP APJ Award for Partner Excellence 2022 for Technology Adoption for its contribution to customers’ digital transformation through innovative solutions that harnesses SAP applications. The company’s eOS software platform has also been recently certified by SAP as Built on SAP Business Technology Platform.

Cloud Innovation

Tech Mahindra, part of the USD 21 billion Mahindra Group, bagged the SAP APJ Award for Partner Excellence 2022 for Cloud Innovation for driving digital transformation for businesses leveraging SAP cloud services and technologies. The company was also a finalist in the SAP Innovation Awards 2021 for utilising the SAP Integration Suite in developing a cloud-based solution needed for port operations.

Tech Mahindra, headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra, India, is a provider of information technology (IT) and business process outsourcing (BPO) services to organisations across a wide range of industries. Recognising the importance of port logistics to global trade, Tech Mahindra created a cloud-based solution, built on SAP Integration Suite, for managing port logistics operations. Leveraging SAP Integration Suite 

SAP Integration Suite is an integration platform as a service (iPaaS) that intends to enable customers in incorporating on-premise and cloud-based processes and applications with prebuilt content and tools provided by the German tech giant. In 2021, the platform earned a Top Rated award from business technology review site TrustRadius based on customer feedback that emphasised its flexibility, prebuilt integration flows, and integration with third-party software solutions

Leveraging SAP’s iPaaS solution, Tech Mahindra was able to develop a system that uses blockchain, machine learning (ML), and robotic process automation (RPA) to provide a collaborative platform for all parties involved in cargo handling, clearance, and port operations. Additionally, the solution aims to minimise paper-based processes, as well as cut transaction time and costs in the port business. 

Moreover, Tech Mahindra has been building the next generation of smart ports in anticipation of an increase in cargo traffic and shipping volume in the future. In partnership with SAP, its innovation project was able to achieve the following benefits and outcomes:

Specialising in SAP Data Migration

Director of Enterprise Resource Planning at CPWD, Satyendra P. Gupta commented during a live streaming session with SiliconANGLE Media on the selection of Tech Mahindra,

“Tech Mahindra has started the implementation process we are in. More than four months have passed since then, and we have covered a lot. The whole objective of this implementation is all our activities will be done on this [new] ERP system.”

He adds that he is expecting the workflow efficiency of the CPWD unit to improve significantly with the implementation of the new ERP cloud system. He adds,

“By the click of the button, we will be able to get all the inputs, all the reports with what is going on across the country. So, it is going to be really a transformation to the working of the department, and, as a whole, the entire public work center of the country. Everybody is going to benefit, not only the Central Public Works Department but all of our stakeholders.”

The government of India has been actively working on the country’s growth and development through digital transformation. Several upgrades in the digital infrastructure, the introduction of online services for citizens, and developing a business-friendly ecosystem have been implemented recently—highlighting the country’s dedication to setting an example for other developing countries in leveraging technology.

To aid the country’s goals and vision, the CPWD put forward this project to implement an ERP cloud system in October last year. As India’s principal engineering organization, the government unit is set to execute construction, maintenance, and beautification work for the central government across the country. According to a report, the ERP cloud system project has an estimated cost of Rs 180 crore.

Tech Mahindra’s ERP Cloud System Implementation Plans

According to Gautam Chatterje, Sales Leader for India Public Sector at Tech Mahindra, the CPWD wanted to automate multiple applications and processes to streamline the government unit’s workflow across the country. To do this, the systems integrator brought in SAP for the SAP HANA implementation. He said SAP HANA will be the primary business application for the CPWD’s new ERP cloud system.

This, along with several other database applications such as eTendering, third-party tools for performance testing, management and monitoring, as well as the complete infrastructure and platform will be hosted to the cloud on the AWS platform.

Chatterje explains,

“We engaged AWS from the beginning itself—the AWS team and the SAP team. And we had multiple interactions with the customer. We understood the challenges. We understood the number of users, number of iterations, number of redundancy, number of high availability they will require. Along with AWS and SAP, all three of us together have the complete solutions, architecture so that overall impact comes to CPWD as the customer—the ultimate results and the business output they deserve.”
