GC Biopharma, a leading provider of innovative medical products and services, implemented SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone as part of an HR transformation project.

One of Korea’s top pharmaceutical companies, GC Biopharma has been in operation since 1967 and specializes in blood products, including the world’s third successfully developed hepatitis B vaccine. To expand its global business, the company needed to upgrade its outdated HR portal with SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone.

In order to create a personalized HR experience for employees, SAP AppHaus worked closely with representatives from GC Biopharma to understand the needs and pain points of end-users. The team researched various HR business scenarios for different user personas (employees, managers, and executives) and identified essential HR tasks such as time and attendance management, talent recruitment, and employee training. SAP AppHaus then designed tailored cards on SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone which reflected customer needs and developed UI-integrated cards with SAP T&I Platform Adoption and Advisory team.

The SAP Business Technology Platform enabled easy maintenance without code development by using the appropriate application based on SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone. It also allowed flexible configurations for all HR personas so that each can access the necessary information easily and quickly through both PCs and mobile devices. This was a much-needed change from the old legacy HR portal which had an inferior user experience and was limited to PC access only.

The new HR portal went live in October 2022, providing over 2,300 GC Biopharma employees with an improved platform that is more accessible and customizable than ever before. With the SAP SuccessFactors solution at its core, employees can now seamlessly switch between their PC or mobile device while getting a personalized experience tailored to their individual needs.

It is clear that GC Biopharma made a smart move when transitioning to SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone due to its vast range of benefits including improved efficiency, rapid response to users’ requests, personalization capabilities, and total accessibility across any device type. Thanks to this transformation initiative, the company is well-positioned for ongoing success in an increasingly digital world.

Implementing SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone

GC Biopharma’s adoption of SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone is an inspiring example of how the latest SAP technology can help businesses optimize their HR processes and provide employees with a user-friendly platform. What’s more, it serves as further evidence that SAP remains at the forefront of innovation when it comes to improving business operations for companies worldwide.

Sharing more about how the SAP solution helped in the company’s digital transformation, Youngwoon Kim, Corporate Human Resources Officer at GC Biopharma, shared:

“We are delighted that SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone now serves as the main entry point to our whole HR system. Mobile access is now available and the system is more responsive to the needs of our employees.”

SAP in HR has helped GC Biopharma streamline their HR operations and enhance the user experience for all concerned. The SAP solution provides a modern, enhanced platform for companies to manage their HR processes more efficiently, allowing employees to access relevant information anytime, anywhere. This is clearly a great example of SAP’s commitment to advancing its technology and helping businesses get ahead in an ever-changing world.

Now that SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone is in full swing at GC Biopharma, the company can look forward to improved operational efficiency and effectiveness while providing its employees with an enjoyable digital experience they can rely on. It is clear that SAP has once again demonstrated its dedication to pushing boundaries and improving business performance across the board – an effort that is surely set to continue for many years to come.

Hyosung’s Chairman is determined to implement data management into its key business structure by leveraging technologies such as big data integration tools, internet of things (IoT), and cloud computing.

Everyone is ready to move on from the extraordinary 2020 and the New Year gives everyone an equal chance to wipe the slate clean. Many enterprises regard 2021 as the time to rebuild, recalibrate, and prepare for a new world of work post-COVID-19.

For South Korean industrial conglomerate Hyosung Group, now is the time to invest in and optimize the latest IT technologies that would not only ready the enterprise for the future beyond the pandemic but also enhance Hyosung’s capabilities to compete in the industries that they operate in. Hyosung Group operates in various industries such as the chemical industry, industrial machinery, IT, trade, and construction.

During the New Year address of Hyosung Chairman Cho Hyun-Joon, he highlighted how accumulated data is critical in strengthening the enterprise’s value and crisis management resolution capabilities. He said:

“The future is about how well a company utilizes accumulated data to strengthen its competitiveness and crisis recovery opportunities.”

Leveraging Big Data Integration Tools

Before 2020 closed, Hyosung ITX, a member of the Hyosung Group, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) with SAP Korea to develop Hyosung Group’s next-generation smart factory solutions at SAP Design App House in Pangyo near Seoul– reflecting Hyosung’s commitment to strengthen its competitiveness through technology. SAP AppHaus Seoul, which is the first SAP AppHaus in Asia, combines human-centered design and development expertise to help customers leverage SAP Business Technology Platform and make innovation real.

Back in 2018, Hyosung ITX utilized big data technology in the implementation of a smart factory system for Hyosung Heavy Industries, Hyosung TNC, and other key establishments.

A smart factory system leverages advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to analyze data, drive automated processes, and learn from experience. It works by integrating machines, people, and Big Data into a single, digitally connected ecosystem.

Today, under the technological agreement, Hyosung and SAP aim to strengthen the forecasting function of Xtrm Factory, the production management solution developed by Hyosung Group in 2018. SAP’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions and SAP subsidiary Qualtrics Experience Management solutions will be integrated into the Xtrm Factory.

Hyosung ITX will leverage SAP’s smart factory system as well as provide a customer prediction management system that analyzes clients’ purchase patterns and preferences for better inventory and logistics management. With the smart factory solution, the company will be able to gather and analyze data from all processes such as manufacturing, production, and sales. This empowers the company to be able to make quick and accurate decisions based on the results of the analysis.

Furthermore, Hyosung Group aims to better analyze and utilize the IoT, cloud computing, and big data solutions through Hyosung ITX in other business sectors, especially in system integration and system management fields.

Aside from having a strong presence in Asia, Hyosung Group’s business network expands to many countries including the U.S., Germany, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, Italy, Spain, Panama, Poland, and many more.

The Asia Pacific region’s first SAP AppHaus location celebrates 5 years of design thinking innovation and creativity together with customers and partners with social-distancing mind. According to an interview with Christopher Han, Head of SAP AppHaus Korea, the organization held five mini celebrations instead of one big event to commemorate pivotal experiences and accomplishments with a select group of customers.

Adaire Fox-Martin, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, Customer Success, congratulates SAP AppHaus Korea:

“The SAP AppHaus Seoul team provides me with such fond memories. It all began when I was president of SAP Asia Pacific Japan. I remember how the members facilitated my leadership team offsite in 2015. Together, we designed and launched the strategic – and very successful – “Asia Rising 2020” initiative. Congratulations to the team! I wish you the very best and continued success in helping customers in APJ run best with SAP.”

Promoting Design Thinking for Innovation

The SAP AppHaus Network is a community of creative space owners, run by SAP’s Design & Co-Innovation Center (DCC) consisting of SAP teams and partners.

In 2014, during a visit by SAP Chairman and co-founder Hasso Plattner in South Korea, he pledged to then-President Geun-hye Park that he will open an SAP AppHaus center in the country. In 2015, that promise came into fruition and SAP AppHaus Korea was established to provide a customer-facing co-innovation space where South Korean information and communications (ICT) startups can cultivate design thinking innovation and transform business data into customer value based on the SAP Business Technology Platform.

SAP AppHaus Korea is located at Startup Campus, the hub of ICT valley, Pangyo in the south of Seoul. The co-innovation space practices an “experimental and prototyping culture” intended to adapt to users’ needs. According to SAP, this flexible and people-centric environment allows customers to create rapid prototypes and ignite their creativity freely.

Han had previously commented,

“We can do more than use our solutions to support companies in their digital transformation. We can show companies how they can change their work culture and ways of working, so that they can continue to be successful in the future.”

Since its opening, SAP AppHaus Korea has conducted over 120 projects, welcomed 12,228 visitors, offered 213 tours, and hosted 417 workshops, according to Han.

This year, with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, SAP AppHaus Korea, together with its sister locations worldwide, turned workshops and customer engagements to virtual experiences in order to ensure business continuity for customers.

Han notes,

“The work of helping customers innovate with SAP Business Technology Platform continues whether online or offline. We can support the different phases in an innovation project as efficiently as before. Clearly, the pandemic could not stop us from collaborating with teams across SAP to continue our future-oriented work with customers!”

Nurturing Co-innovation in the Asia Pacific Region

SAP AppHaus Korea’s co-innovation partners include:

  • Doosan Corporation, a Fortune Global 500 company that primarily focuses on consumer goods, manufacturing, and the trading and construction sectors.
  • Clair, a fast-growing startup that manufactures and sells air purifiers. The company is globally recognized for its filter patents that produce higher filtration efficiency.

SAP AppHaus Network continues to grow globally and in Asia. Han said that they are currently onboarding their first member of the SAP AppHaus Network in China.
