Thai manufacturing company Bangkok Glass has implemented SAP S/4HANA, SAP’s in-memory computing-based business suite, across nine of its companies in Thailand to standardise business processes in a new mission-critical system.

Founded in 1974, Bangkok Glass has been steadily expanding its business not only in Thailand but also across Asia. As each office was added, business processes and systems were becoming more differentiated, with IT infrastructure also spreading over ten offices.

ABeam Consulting acted as implementation partner on the 14-month project, which saw functions such as accounting, production and logistics centralised on the S/4HANA platform. The use of SAP Fiori also made it possible to access the system from a variety of channels.

The system will be implemented gradually across Bangkok Glass’s other business units in the future.

SAP partner Highbar Technologies, based in Mumbai, has deployed SAP e-governance solutions at the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).

GSPCB had a vision to achieve paperless governance, which was brought to life through Highball’s e-portal Sustainable Workflow Platform, through which all approvals will be facilitated online.

By helping the Board to be more efficient, this major digital initiative will ensure paperless and transparent governance, reducing unnecessary delays, and making the process more seamless.

“It is a proud moment for us as we are the only government department to go paperless after the Legislative Assembly of Goa,” said Jose Manuel Noronha, chairman, GSPCB. “This initiative is a major leap towards our commitment of making the board more accountable and approachable for the residents of Goa. By discarding the paper-based system we are also doing our part in saving trees from being cut as unnecessary paper use leads to wastage.”

Salish Pendse, president, Highbar Technologies said the GSPCB SAP implementation demonstrates the company’s success in the government vertical.

“Paving the way for e-governance at the Board comes as a true testimony to our practice of treating IT deployment as a business transformation initiative. The Goa State Pollution Control Board’s support has been very encouraging to achieve this remarkable feat. We are sure the deployment of SAP and this initiative will motivate other State Pollution Control Boards and government offices adopt a digital transformation journey,” Pendse said.

The Goa State Pollution Control Board oversees waste management, and monitoring and control of air and water quality in the small Indian state of Goa.

The Institute Jantung Negara (IJN), Malaysia’s national heart institute, has implemented SAP ERP 6 on SAP HANA and SAP Ariba to help it comply with new GST legislation, introduced in Malaysia in 2014, as well as improve workflow efficiency and business processes, and monitor inventory levels in real time.

IJN employees previously used multiple systems to manage its inventory, finances and supply chain. Both time and resource-intensive, these processes also affected the accuracy of inventory management and forecasting.

“One of the biggest issues we faced internally was optimising our inventory. While we strive to allocate our supplies efficiently to ensure we don’t run out or have an excessive surplus, this can be challenging,” said IJN CEO Dato’ Dr Mohd Ashari Yakub.

IJN was seeking a total healthcare solution that was easy to use, integrated, and had the capacity to provide accurate analysis and real-time insights. Importantly, SAP solutions were already GST certified by the Royal Malaysia Customs Department.

The implementation of SAP ERP on HANA has significantly simplified and improved visibility of IJN’s business processes, by combining both transactions and analytics on a single platform. This has improve agility, responsiveness and decision-making for financial planning, inventory management and procurement, according to the institute.

IJN also implemented SAP Ariba Sourcing, Supplier Information and Performance Management, as well as Contract Management solutions. These solutions are expected to help the institute to automate and streamline critical tasks across the sourcing lifecycle, as well as identify savings opportunities and negotiate more favourable purchasing arrangements. The solutions, providing standardised processes, will also improve efficiency and lower administrative costs.

The SAP ERP implementation was completed within seven months, in time for the GST registration deadline, by SAP partner T-Systems.

“Working together with IJN, we were able to quickly map our processes that needed to be fine-tuned and develop a change management plan before conducting the implementation, so that the upgrade was seamless,” said Natasha Kwan, managing director, T-Systems Asia South.
