New releases of SAP’s Transportation Management and Extended Warehouse Management solutions will allow customers to extend their supply chain executive platform and trace batches over multiple process steps and locations.

With the integration of the SAP Global Batch Traceability application, the solutions offer enhanced connection to smart devices in the Internet of Things, providing access to more data across the digital supply chain, enabling reduced transportation cost and increases productivity and fulfilment speed.

“These new release show our continued innovation in both the digital supply chain and logistics,” Markus Rosemann, vice president, SAP Digital Logistics, said. “As companies look to digitalise their business, products and processes, we are helping them put supply chain and logistics at the centre of this business transformation.”

In SAP Transportation Management, a single user interface for air cargo security will allow customers to add additional parameters to optimise scheduling processes, which improves freight scheduling and raises productivity, while advanced planning innovations help to optimise flexible vehicle space capacity.

The new version of SAP Extended Warehouse Management offers enhanced analytics for key performance indicators, such as outbound delivery items, service level analysis and warehouse capacity usage, to enable better handling of smaller, more complex and frequent shipments via a new SAP Fiori app. This app allows for flexible picking for multiple customer orders in a single pick run.

SAP PRESS has published a book to help professionals seeking to advance their logistics technology with SAP S/4HANA.

Logistics with SAP S/4HANA: An Introduction was written by four SAP experts, led by Deloitte Consulting principals Deb Bhattercharjee and Eric Monti.

“As organisations across industries continue to innovate their business models, SAP has continued to innovate on the technology front,” Bhattacharjee said. “But many executives struggle when it comes to aligning new technology capabilities with new business processes – especially in the extended supply chain space.”

The book provides a full overview of the solution, and includes sections on sourcing and procurement, inventory management, warehouse management, inbound and outbound logistics, manufacturing operations, plant maintenance, quality management, SAP Fiori applications, and implementation and migration. The book includes information about key functionalities and innovations, and how to navigate through redesigned processes.

According to Monti, the new publication gives industry leaders more than just a survey of the solution.

“It offers them a view into the possibilities for radically improving operational efficiencies, enhancing user experience, and seamlessly integrating disparate solutions. The book offers readers a solid starting point for exploring the potential results they can deliver – thanks to a fundamentally new platform that combines in-memory computing and a modern digital core ERP,” Monti said.

The book is available in print, electronic, and bundled editions and can be purchased via the SAP PRESS website and Amazon.com.

California-headquartered Fetch Robotics has partnered with SAP to integrate SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) with its Fetch and Freight robots in a Virtual Conveyor solution for warehouse and logistics industries.

The Virtual Conveyor utilises Freight robots, which are autonomous mobile platforms, together with warehouse employees and the SAP EWM. The associates pick goods from shelves and place onto a contain or a shelf on a Fetch robot, which is an advanced mobile manipulator. When all the goods are picked, the picker send the Freight robot to the packing station using either a mobile device or the robot’s touch screen. As the task is completed, SAP EWN is updated with the completed order and another Freight robot engages wth the employee for their next picking order.

According to Fetch Robotics, using such a system can reduce the physical demands on employees, who often spend a large amount of time traversing the warehouse floor, and increase the time they spend fulfilling orders.

“We’re delighted to combine our expertise in robotics with SAP’s experience in warehouse management,” said Melonee Wise, CEO of Fetch Robotics.

“It’s an innovative combination of hardware and software that benefits warehouse operators and their employees.”

“The combination of Fetch Robotics and our warehouse management system means that warehouse operators benefit from more efficient operation,” according to Franz Hero, SVP, supply chain and logistics development, SAP.

“This integrated warehouse functionality allows logistics companies to automate the transportation of picked and packaged goods within their warehouse and drastically improves the efficiency of the warehouse workers.”
