SAP has made its SAP Manufacturing Execution application available in the cloud, via the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC).

According to the vendor, this new option will help manufacturers embrace Industry 4.0 automation by integrating business and manufacturing processes. By running on the HEC, the solution can combine the analytical and transactional processing power of SAP HANA with the ability to connect manufacturing processes with Internet of Things (IoT) data for better visibility into shop floor operations and optimised assets utilisation and productivity.

“Companies of all sizes need to be more responsive to the variability in market demand and customer-specific product requirements,” said Hans Thalbauer, senior vice president of extended supply chain and IoT, SAP.

“The solution delivered through SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud give manufacturing companies the speed in production to meet these dynamic needs in a cost-effective manner.”

SAP Manufacturing Execution was originally launched in December 2014.

SAP and IBM have announced plans to collaborate to a greater degree on solutions based on SAP Business Suite 4 HANA (S/4 HANA), with resources to be co-located in Walldorf, Germany, and Palo Alto, California.

The focus of co-innovation efforts will be on solutions that “increase customer value through cognitive extensions, enhanced customer and user experience, and industry-specific functionality”.

This will include the creation of industry-specific cloud solutions, expanded SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud services to include ongoing application maintenance and support services, and the development of cognitive solutions for SAP S/4 HANA and line-of-business solutions utilising IBM’s cognitive APIs.

From a user experience perspective, IBM Interactive Experience digital agency, SAP Global Design, and the SAP Customer Engagement and Commerce team will together to create predesigned experiences that can be customised for clients’ customers and employees.

SAP and IBM will enable client engagements for hybrid and on-premise offerings with SAP HANA on IBM Power systems, supported through the new IBM Power Systems Center of Excellence for SAP HANA, while the two organisations will also co-create digital transformation road maps by industry and by C-suite role.

“Today’s announcement builds on SAP’s commitment to enable strong, growing businesses that can seize the amazing opportunities of the digital economy,” said Rob Enslin, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE and president of Global Customer Operations, SAP.

“SAP S/4HANA is the reimagined suite of core business applications that has once again set the standard for the industry. I’m delighted that IBM and SAP will collaborate closely to give customers a clear road map to innovating new business models and outcomes that were never before possible.”

“The future of business strategy and business value will proceed from the foundational elements of this announcement – cognitive, cloud and the design of consumer-quality experiences in every industry,” said Bridget van Kralingen, senior vice president, IBM Global Business Services. “We’re formalising a complementary set of capabilities to simplify and speed outcomes for clients evolving to become cognitive enterprises.”

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) has launched SAP HANA Menu on its Enterprise Cloud service, providing growing enterprises with the flexibility to deploy core systems including SAP HANA for short periods with no upfront costs and no minimum service requirements.

By offering the SAP HANA Menu option on Enterprise Cloud, NTT Com plans to deliver Global Management One, the cloud platform and management service for SAP HANA, uniformly, ensuring global governance and reducing IT operations and maintenance costs.

The scalable cloud-based service, which is currently available in Japan, will be available globally by the end of 2016.

Fees for the new service are calculated according to usage, providing customers with affordable access to the SAP HANA environment when they need it without needing to purchase the full SAP HANA appliance.

NTT Com is delivering the service as a SAP HANA set based on tailored data centre integration to supply SAP HANA-verified hardware such as storage, network components and servers. According to NTT Com, this reduces implementation time as well as providing fast and stable access to the systems as a development, verification and production environment.

The SAP HANA Set 256GB plan with a starting price of JPY 276,800 per month comprises the bare-metal server, file storage service and SAP HANA Menu solution package. A 512GB plan is expected to be available starting in May.

NTT Com launched a greatly strengthened Enterprise Cloud in Japan on March 1 and in the UK on March 22, and shortly intends to launch the expanded service in Singapore and the US, with more countries to follow. SAP HANA Set is scheduled to be rolled out along with the expanded Enterprise Cloud service in those areas.
