SAP is seeking to encourage Indian professional women who have had a career break to get back into the workforce, with the launch of a new initiative.

The program was launched at the regional level by SAP APJ president, Adaire Fox-Martin, in June, in a bid to tap what she saw as an underutilised pool of talent.

SAP’s Back-to-Work program offers project-based work to professional women who have taken a career break and are looking to re-enter the workforce, with the possibility of an offer of employment (subject to performance) following the completion of the project. SAP also provides networking opportunities and a project mentor to guide participants through the process.

In a blog post, Fox-Martin wrote, “The objective of the initiative is not only to open doors to these women, but also to help them regain confidence in their professional capabilities and allow them to readjust to the workplace.”

The initiative was first piloted in Japan and Korea, and has since been expanded to also include Australia, Singapore and now India, with more countries in the region to follow.

Vlasta Dusil, vice president of human resources, SAP India, told India’s Economic Times that “Back-to-Work aims to reintegrate an untapped pool of high-potential female professionals back into corporate life”.

“In the era of digitalisation, diversity and inclusion are imperative to innovate for tomorrow,” she said.
