NEC Corporation’s transformation into an intelligent enterprise with SAP will be supported by ABeam Consulting—an SAP APJ Partner Excellence awardee. As part of its group-wide business transformation, the Japanese multinational information technology and electronics company will be implementing solutions from SAP to digitalize its procurement operations, enable remote work and enhance its business operations in light of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

As COVID-19 continues to spread and cause unprecedented economic disruptions, businesses and consumers alike have had to pivot and adapt to the new normal and the accelerated shift in digitalization. It is critical now more than ever for enterprises and the global community to embrace digital technologies and build a more sustainable society.

Since its foundation in 1898, NEC Corporation—then known as  Nippon Electric Limited Partnership—has been committed to providing “solutions for society” that ensure the safety and assurance of people, support fairness in society, and boost efficiency in economic activities. As a self-proclaimed social value creation company guided by its corporate message of “orchestrating a brighter world,” the company aims to facilitate digitalization, remote and safe working environments, and labor-saving initiatives to further contribute to producing new social value projects.

In a press release regarding the company’s response to COVID-19, President and CEO of NEC, Takashi Niino said:

“Even during this global crisis, the NEC Group is continuing business operations so as to serve our valued customers, partners, stakeholders, and people around the world by working to support the social infrastructure and enabling a more safe and secure environment. All while giving the highest consideration to the safety and health of NEC Group employees and their families.”

Becoming an Intelligent Enterprise with SAP Solutions

As part of its digital transformation strategy in becoming an intelligent enterprise with SAP, NEC Corporation started its project to modernize its procurement of indirect materials with SAP Ariba solutions. With the cloud-based procurement system, NEC expects to reduce spend, enhance operational efficiency, and increase compliance in its procurement process. NEC Management Partners Co. Ltd.—based in Kanagawa, Japan—will be the first to roll-out the solution, with the rest of the group companies both domestically and globally to follow.

NEC Corporation will be implementing the full suite of SAP Ariba solutions from strategic sourcing to payment:

  • SAP Ariba Strategic Sourcing Suite – SAP’s software solution that supports a single, closed-loop, source-to-contract solution bundle for managing materials sourcing and suppliers across all spend categories
  • SAP Ariba Buying and Invoicing – a user-friendly procure-to-pay (P2P) software solution that features streamlined catalog maintenance and a configurable interface

With these solutions that are connected to SAP Ariba’s robust supplier network, NEC Corporation will be able to negotiate the best-value sourcing agreements, achieve sustainable savings, gain better control over global spend, and simplify commerce.

Additionally, NEC is also set to introduce the following SAP software solutions to enable remote work and to achieve more efficient and advanced analytics:

  • SAP Signature Management application by DocuSign – a solution that allows organizations to keep documents 100{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} digital and send them for signature from within their workspaces for a seamless, end-to-end electronic contracting process
  • SAP Process Mining application by Celonis – a data-based approach to business automation that helps identify opportunities for automation and improvement, as well as prioritize, structure, and streamline projects
  • SAP Analytics Cloud – SAP’s business intelligence (BI) solution that utilizes machine learning technology to highlight key business drivers and insights for better business decision-making

SAP was named a leader in ‘The Forrester Wave: Enterprise Data Virtualisation, Q4 2017’, being ranked among the top three vendors across ‘Current Offering’ and ‘Market Presence’ categories.

Forrester’s report stated, “SAP’s strong distributed in-memory data platform, along with SAP’s broad data management capabilities helps it store, process and access data to support any type of DV (data virtualisation) use case. The combination of SAP HANA’s in-memory data platform for on-premises and cloud, SAP data management services, SAP Enterprise Information Management, and SAP [HANA] Smart Data Access delivers a DV platform that allows enterprises to integrate data from sources quickly and perform transactional, operational and analytical workloads in the same platform.”

The analyst firm also said that SAP is extending its framework to support more complex DV requirements, in terms of operational intelligence, a 360-degree-view of the customer, real-time analytics, risk analytics and predictive analytics.

On the report, Greg McStravick, president of database and data management, SAP, said, “We believe that SAP’s position as a leader in Forrester’s evaluation of enterprise data virtualisation vendors reflects on our strong commitment to delivering best-in-class enterprise information management capabilities to ensure trusted, relevant and complete data for all business solutions.

“Our enterprise data virtualisation functionality is just one winning aspect of our end-to-end data platform that is uniquely designed to enable our customers to successfully achieve their digital business transformation goals.”

SAP has launched updates to its enterprise information management (EIM) portfolio in a move designed to meet the critical data needs of organisations as they transform into digital enterprises, including improved support for big data and cloud, increased self-service capabilities and full support for enterprise information governance.

According to SAP, the latest releases of SAP HANA smart data integration and SAP HANA smart data quality enable organisations to combine data from multiple social media platforms with their enterprise information for improved, deeper insights into customer behaviour, product lifecycles and market conditions.

A new version of SAP Data Services helps businesses to migrate their on-premise data to cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Storage, enabling big data analytics, access from anywhere and disaster recovery. Enterprises will now be able to read and load data from HPE Vertica as well as gain insights from Microsoft Outlook messages, calendar events and archived items. The SAP Information Steward update allows customers to view data lineage and impact analysis for Hadoop data sources.

Meanwhile, the latest version of SAP Agile Data Preparation provides self-service capabilities to access, transform and combine data, reducing the time and complexity of preparing enterprise data for analysis. In addition, the update helps customers quickly analyse and monitor data quality, enabling the definition of data domains and set up of scorecards.

The SAP Information Steward update enables organisations to easily monitor compliance with information policies defined in the tool. Notifications of data quality issues allow customers to take immediate action.

“In a digital business, the speed of decision making is instantaneous, as everything and everyone is connected live,” said Barbara Stortz, senior vice president, HANA EIM, SAP.

“This means that every organisation needs real-time access to data that can be trusted, and to have the flexibility to prepare for the unique needs of every department and user.”

SAP has announced plans to acquire the Roambi suite of mobile business intelligence solutions.

According to a statement, SAP has been focused on providing access to analytics, especially when travelling or working remotely, to all parts of the workforce.

Roambi is a mobile-centric analytics and data visualisation solution that providers users with easy-to-use solutions that can retrieve relevant data anytime and anywhere. In addition to its Analytics application for visualisation, Roambi also offers Blink, a data discovery tool, and Flow, which allows users to create rich publications that place content around visualisations of data.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

“The old analytics strategy-to-execution loop is not real time, agile or democratic enough to adjust to digital realities,” said Steve Lucas, president, digital enterprise platform, SAP.

“SAP, a global leader in analytics, has completely changed the game and is now delivering a broad set of consumer-grade analytics solutions at enterprise scale across every industry and line of business. SAP aims to deliver all-in-one analytics for everyone, available in the cloud and on premise, designed to be ubiquitous and real time — something niche players in the analytics space cannot offer.”

SAP has also announced new capabilities for SAP Predictive Analytics, planned for availability “in the near future”, and will offer a special trade-in promotion to allow users to swap desktop tools from other vendors for SAP Cloud for Analytics.

The new 2.5 version of SAP Predictive Analytics will include native Spark modelling, to enable increased performance when analysing data in Hadoop-based environments, and other features, such as ensemble modelling and tighter integration with libraries for SAP HANA, designed to increase data scientists’ productivity and performance.

More information on the trade-in offer is at www.sap.com/reimagineanalytics.
