SAP Malaysia Sdn Bhd Managing Director Hong Kok Cheong has expressed his support for the recently launched MyDIGITAL initiative — under the National Digital Economy Blueprint — that aims to further develop the digital economy of Malaysia into a strategic economic engine of growth.

Describing the Malaysian Government’s initiative as a major ‘breakthrough yet realistic’ digital vision, Hong said the plan would enhance the digital economy of Malaysia and improve quality of living at the same time. The initiative is expected to generate 500,000 new jobs for Malaysians and contribute 22.6{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP), as announced by Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the 19th of February 2021.

In his speech, PM Muhyiddin has highlighted the implementation of 5G technology in the country. He declared:

“Malaysia will be one of the first countries in the region to build a 5G ecosystem using the internet and cloud services in real-time or real-time, to enable information to be shared instantly.”

The SAP Malaysia MD also reinforced the importance of 5G technology. Hong said:

“The combination of 5G capabilities with latest technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, advanced analytics, and blockchain will support the digital transformation of many Malaysian industries.”

Additionally, Hong stated that the accessibility of 5G connection will help revive Industry 4.0 (IR4) adoption among local enterprises. He said that companies must be able to embrace the latest digital technologies to realise efficiency and productivity gains.

“It will further accelerate the transformation of local businesses into becoming ‘intelligent enterprises’, which in turn empowers them to deliver superior experiences that drive success in the new economy. Businesses can innovate and transform with intelligent technologies so as to elevate their competitiveness levels following disruptions caused by Covid-19,” added Hong.

Transforming Malaysia into a Regional Leader in the Digital Economy

Enabling business sectors to compete globally by strengthening the efficiency of their operations, the digital transformation direction plan aims to transform Malaysia into a regional leader in the digital economy. SAP has been at the forefront of supporting Malaysia’s nation-building efforts especially aligned with the government’s plans about transforming businesses, enhancing government efficiencies, and improving citizen services.

“SAP has a clear intelligent government framework and roadmap that outlines what’s needed to provide, protect and prosper in today’s digital society,” said Hong.

According to the framework, the four priorities of success are focused on improving the use of data as an asset, re-imaging business models, supporting the workforce of the future, and prioritising the citizen at the centre of policy mandates.

“With these attributes, the public sector would be more proactive, foresighted, and automated, all supported by intelligent technologies such as AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, and internet-of-things,” Hong further explained.

With its focus on being the strategic partner of choice for the public sector, SAP offers an all-inclusive coverage of the complete public sector value chain across the industry. Over 13,000 global public sector organisations innovate with SAP presently, accomplishing its vision to help companies run their operations across 25 various industries worldwide.

In line with this, the Malaysian Government will continue to assist in strengthening the new digital ecosystem. PM Muhyiddin concluded:

“Therefore, we will ensure that digital companies involved with the government work hard to help Malaysians improve their digital skills.”
