China-headquartered Shandong Energy Group accelerated its digital transformation through the use of SAP integration platform and solutions. The adoption of SAP S/4HANA as the company’s digital core supported the further expansion of its business scale.

In order to meet the growing demand for cloud services in China, SAP’s local subsidiary added SAP S/4HANA to the company’s cloud portfolio last March. The development aims to assist local customers in their digital transformation journeys by offering the latest cutting-edge technologies in China on top of the solutions available in the market.

One of the customer stories highlighted during a recent SAPPHIRE NOW 2021 discussion between Scott Russell, Head of Customer Success at SAP, and the Chinese media is Shandong Energy Group’s implementation of SAP S/4HANA as its digital core. Shandong Energy Group’s business extends beyond coal mining, thermal power generation, and chemical industry to high-end equipment manufacturing, trade, logistics, and renewable energy and new materials. The tenure enterprises of the global clean energy supplier are located across Asia, Oceania, North America, and South America.

The Group’s collaboration with SAP dates back to 2001 as it was the first customer in China’s mining industry to implement SAP R3. The company went on to upgrade three large-scale SAP systems in 2003, 2007, and 2014. Furthermore, the organisation embarked on another SAP project with the implementation of SAP S/4HANA in 2017 and was, once again, the first of China’s energy companies to adopt the solution as its digital core.

By integrating 18 surrounding systems that include SAP cloud solutions, Shandong Energy Group established an enterprise intelligence platform to restructure its business operations. In 2018, the company forged a joint innovation framework agreement with the German software giant to execute an intelligent production innovation planning and construction which then kickstarted its digital transformation journey.

For its commitment to driving innovation using SAP solutions, Shandong Energy Group was recognised during the SAP Innovation Awards 2021. The event aims to celebrate the world’s most forward-thinking customers and partners for their ability to respond to complex challenges using SAP technologies.

Moreover, Wang Qian, Vice President and Co-General Manager at SAP China, stated that Shandong Energy Group was the only award-winning company in China, emerging from a pool of over 400 outstanding companies. He added:
