Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) aims to modernise operations across its subsidiaries by deploying RISE with SAP on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Powered by SAP digital core on cloud, the leading infrastructure holding company intends to develop new digital business models and further drive sustainable development for the Philippine economy.

At its annual IDC FutureScape: Navigating the Crosswinds in a Digital-First World event, global market intelligence firm IDC predicted that by 2024, digital-first enterprises will have shifted 60{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} of all technology and services investment to as-a-service and outcomes-centric models in order to enable responsive customer experiences and resilient business operations. According to IDC Asia-Pacific (APAC) Group Vice President for ICT Practice Sandra Ng, there will be more interdependencies among businesses and industries in a digital-first future. She noted that as a result of engagements with ecosystem partners, more than 50{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} of organisations in the APAC region will see an increase in technology spending.

“This co-innovation and sharing of data, insights, and applications will lead to new products and services addressing the digital-first customer’s changing needs and habits,” Ng added.

In the Philippines, top companies have already been investing in the latest technologies, including SAP innovations, to ensure long-term growth, provide high-quality performance, and meet client expectations. Industry leaders such as San Miguel Corporation, PLDT Inc., Manila Electric Co., JG Summit Holdings Inc., Jollibee Foods Corporation, Bank of the Philippines Islands, and Ayala Land Inc. are among those that have benefitted from adopting SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and solutions to manage complex and large operations in the country.

MPIC, a unit of Hong Kong-based First Pacific Company Limited through Metro Pacific Holdings, Inc., has also recently announced its investment in SAP’s end-to-end business solutions. As the first Philippine company to implement RISE with SAP — the German software giant’s Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) offering — MPIC embarked on a journey towards becoming a sustainable, intelligent enterprise through analytics and technology powered by SAP digital core on AWS cloud.

Commenting on the latest partnership with MPIC, SAP Philippines Managing Director Edler Panlilio, said:

“By leveraging RISE with SAP, which seamlessly combines business process redesign, technical migration to modern and modular architecture, and the needed data to deliver predictable business outcomes, MPIC has a distinct first-mover advantage as an intelligent sustainable future-ready enterprise to achieve true business transformation and faster time to value, flexibility and agility.”

MPIC Modernises ERP Systems and Drives Sustainability with SAP Digital Core on Cloud

Moreover, as explained by Chaye Cabal-Revilla, Chief Finance, Risk, and Sustainability Officer at MPIC, managing a broad range of business models and disparate financial reporting systems across various operating companies has caused a disconnection between MPIC’s ERP applications and its non-standardised operational processes. She said that this has resulted in a lack of visibility into real-time data and insights in the company. Emphasising the organisation’s decision to tap SAP for its modernisation program, Cabal-Revilla stated:

“By partnering with a trusted technology advisor like SAP, we hope to realise our business transformation strategy, standardise core processes, facilitate data-driven decision-making with analytics and look at developing new digital business models in the new normal.”

In addition to adopting RISE with SAP, MPIC will also gain access to suppliers, asset intelligence, and logistics trading partners for business collaboration through the SAP Business Network. Propelled by SAP S/4HANA digital core, Panlilio said that MPIC will be able to build resilience against unprecedented disruptions, as well as accelerate growth and scale by optimising operations and enabling proactive feedback.

With a shared commitment to embedding sustainability in business operations, MPIC hopes that the SAP implementation will help accelerate United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 9 (UN SDG 9) that aims to establish resilient infrastructure, boost inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and drive innovation. Placing sustainability at the core of MPIC, Cabal-Revilla stressed that the vision is evident in the way the company designs, builds and operates the business with minimal social and ecological disruption.

“In this aspect, MPIC and SAP share the same vision to create a more sustainable future for all. We believe that RISE with SAP will help us improve our operations and augment our sustainability initiatives.”

Last month, MPIC conducted its first-ever Group Sustainability Summit to discuss how the company can work together to make sustainability a priority in the coming years.
