Connecting data through Internet of Things analytics in the transportation industry is the focus of an expanded partnership between SAP and NTT.
The first project in this initiative will support transportation safety operations.
SAP and NTT have combined the former’s Connected Transportation Safety (CTS) solutions, which collects and analyses vehicle related data with NTT’s hitoe, sensing fabric jointly developed with Toray Industries, and the NTT IoT analytics platform, which provides drivers’ biological data including heart rate and mental fatigue estimate. The combined solution aims to provide more accurate and real-time information and the condition of both the vehicle and drivers.
SAP and NTT Group will work with Japan-based Keifuku Bus Co to conduct a field trial from October 2016, with the objective of providing service from January 2017.
The companies eventually plan to roll out the solution in the United States and Europe.
The co-innovation effort began in Palo Alto, California and has been led by NTT Labs and SAP Labs China. The project is part of a bigger commitment by SAP and NTT to move customers to the cloud for the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0.
Other parts of the NTT Group are also faciltating transformation in the transportation industry – earlier this month NTT DATA announced a collaboration with the Ariba Network to develop a digital solution for tracking shipments in real time.
