A leading hospital operator in Indonesia is working with SAP Indonesia, PT Abyor International and T-Systems, to deliver integrated systems across their hospitals to improve operational and cost efficiency, and improve patient medical services.

Mitra Keluarga has one of the leading hospital networks in Indonesia, managing 12 hospitals across the Greater Jakarta region in the Central and Eastern Java provinces, with plans to add six more by 2019.

The healthcare solutions that will allow Mitra Keluarga to run hospitals in real time encompass operational and clinical solutions, covering financials, procurement, inventory, patient management, billing and electronic medical records (EMR), as well as solutions from Cerner i.s.h.med from SAP, on the SAP HANA platform.

The hospital operator will use SAP Electronic Medical Record and Business Process Management to gain access to a single source of clinical, organisational and financial data at the point of care, for more personalised patient interaction. The company-wide central EMR will be available on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones, promoting better collaboration and real-time information exchange amongst patients and physicians and nurses, for improved patient diagnosis and treatment.

SAP’s billing solution will allow cross-department bills (for different treatments) to be consolidated into one main bill, while the SAP ERP application powered by SAP HANA will manage Mitra Keluarga’s hospital information system, managing business processes and operational efficiency across the group’s hospitals.

“Mitra Keluarga is not merely just a place where patients seek an improvement in health, but is also a home that welcomes everyone, embracing health as part of a lifestyle that is deeply engrained to Mitra Keluarga’s heart. At Mitra Keluarga, we endeavour to work towards helping our patients receive the best care by delivering quality treatment to all patients. however, doing so was a great challenge in the absence of an integrated information system,” said Ir. Rustiyan Oen, president director, Mitra Keluarga.

“By leveraging the expertise of SAP, working together with partners PT Abyor International and T-Systems, we hope to continue to deliver world-class medical services through simplifying business processes, reducing costs and achieving insightful, faster decision making. These benefits give us an opportunity to improve the quality and safety of patient care, reduce inefficiencies and wastage as well as promote better management and administration of the hospital environment itself.”

Hari Tjahjono, president director of PT Abhor International, said implementing SAP for Healthcare solutions requires extensive experience and knowledge, as well as a deep understanding of hospital business processes.

“With this implementation, we believe Mitra Keluarga will benefit from process optimisation within the organisation, not only in the back office but also in the processes around patient treatment,” said Tjahjono.

The system will first be deployed in one of the group’s hospitals, then becoming the template project for roll-outs to the rest of its hospitals in Indonesia. Mitra Keluarga will eventually have a centralised IT system that provides electronically integrated patient files, and improved visibility across the enterprise for better planning and faster execution.

T-Systems, another partner on the project, has successfully implemented similar technology for community and private hospitals in Singapore.
