Deb Deep Sengupta has been appointed as the new managing director for SAP India, reporting to SAP Asia Pacific and Japan president Adaire Fox-Martin.
Sengupta replaces Ravi Chauhan, who took on the top job in April 2014. He was previously COO for the Indian subcontinent, which includes India Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and has spent more than a decade with SAP, during which time he has helped the company double its enterprise business in India.
With more than two decades of IT management experience, Sengupta has headed SAP’s multi-functional sales and operations organisations in India, driving continuous productivity improvements, and significantly contributing to the achievement of revenue and profitability objectives, the company said.
“We are confident that Deb Deep’s track record of customer engagements and deep knowledge of the industry will propel SAP India to continued success, as we increasingly deliver simplicity to our customers to address the complexities of hyper connectivity,” said Fox-Martin.
One of the immediate challenges ahead in India is the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) reform.
At the recent SAP GST India Forum in Delhi, SAP presented a range of localised solutions which have the Indian tax functionalities integrated within the business process to help companies transition to GST.
SAP also presented its plan to address GST legislation and solutions that will help Indian enterprises to meet their tax compliance requirements.
With the introduction of GST expected to impact corporates’ tax structure, tax incidence, tax computation, utilisation and reporting, SAP’s localised GST solutions will help enterprises with:
- Providing common infrastructure and services including document and file management in line with Central and State Government guidelines.
- Building efficient and convenient interfaces with taxpayers and tax administrators by leveraging SAP’s global experience.
- Facilitating, implementing and setting standards for providing common GST solutions for corporates.
- Enriching and enabling the SAP ecosystem in India to manage the transition effectively.
