SAP Taiwan has officially inaugurated the SAP Kaohsiung ESG and AI Research and Innovation Center to support local businesses in embracing AI-driven sustainability initiatives and accelerating digital transformation.

The new research hub, located in Kaohsiung’s Yawan area, represents a collaborative effort between SAP and the Kaohsiung City Government to develop solutions that drive sustainability, including Taiwan’s first SGS-certified greenhouse gas inventory system. This innovative tool aims to simplify the inventory process for Taiwanese businesses, helping them meet environmental compliance requirements. The opening event was attended by Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai, Vice Mayor Luo Dasheng, Kaohsiung City Economic Development Director Liao Taixiang, and various stakeholders, underscoring SAP’s commitment to making Kaohsiung a leading example of a smart port city on the global stage.

The Strategic Role of SAP Taiwan in the Local Market

With more than 100,000 small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Taiwan, many companies face growing pressure to adhere to global sustainability standards. As international and domestic supply chains increasingly demand greenhouse gas inventories, the need for robust solutions has intensified. SAP Global Vice President and Taiwan General Manager, Chen Zhiwei, emphasized Taiwan’s critical role in the global supply chain. He highlighted the establishment of the SAP Kaohsiung ESG and AI Research and Innovation Center as part of SAP’s broader strategy to introduce advanced technologies to the Taiwanese market.

The center aims to deliver practical applications for businesses, focusing on supply chain sustainability, data collection, and reporting requirements. One of its key offerings is a greenhouse gas inventory solution designed specifically for Taiwanese companies. This tool enables businesses to manage local environmental compliance and tackle net-zero challenges with ease. By collaborating with ecosystem partners, the center will work closely with Kaohsiung’s industrial sector, starting with the city’s ports and expanding globally, to transform enterprises into sustainable, smart businesses.

Collaboration with Local Entities for a Sustainable Future

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai noted that achieving net-zero carbon emissions is not just a local concern but a global challenge. He highlighted the city’s initiatives, such as the establishment of net-zero regulations, the creation of a carbon rights exchange, and the founding of the Net Zero Academy, as key measures supporting local businesses in their transformation efforts. The Yawan Smart Technology Innovation Park, which has already attracted 175 domestic and international companies, is a prime example of how Kaohsiung is positioning itself as a hub for innovation and green technology.

SAP Taiwan will leverage the new research center to offer more convenient services to local businesses while fostering cooperation with smart technology companies across the Asia-Pacific region. This collaboration is expected to drive the net-zero transformation of industries and enhance Kaohsiung’s competitiveness in the global green economy. The SAP Kaohsiung ESG and AI Research and Innovation Center will be a base for this transformation, linking local and international efforts to promote sustainable practices.

Addressing Market Needs with Advanced Solutions

To meet the demands of the Taiwan market, SAP has developed the “Taiwan Enterprise Greenhouse Gas Inventory” solution, verified by SGS Taiwan, which complies with the Ministry of Environment’s guidelines. This tool simplifies the collection of greenhouse gas emission data and automates the calculation and reporting processes. It also integrates seamlessly with SAP’s broader sustainability solutions, such as the SAP sustainable development control tower, allowing businesses to manage electricity usage, carbon emissions, and other key sustainability metrics on a single platform.

SAP’s solutions are not limited to inventory management; the company is also introducing AI-powered tools for generating ESG reports that meet European standards. These tools enable businesses to gain real-time insights into their carbon reduction efforts through scenario simulations, automating the generation of both internal and external reports. By utilizing generative AI, SAP helps companies estimate carbon emissions even when actual data is lacking, offering businesses a significant reduction in manual effort and associated costs.

Hsin Tung Yang, a pioneering food company in Taiwan, is using SAP ERP deployed in the cloud to reshape its processes, improve its overall efficiency, save costs, and utilize data to drive the company’s mission of digitally transforming into the future.

Committed to constant innovation, Hsin Tung Yang places great value on its consumers by providing them with high-quality products. Rousong (meat floss) and rougan (pork rinds) are two of Hsin Tung Yang’s most famous products among its many food offerings. Dried mullet roe and other Chinese tea-flavored treats are two areas where the firm has seen growth in recent years. The organization also oversees service centers and retail outlets in airports.

Using SAP S/4HANA enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, Hsin Tung Yang began optimizing its internal process, remodeled it, categorized more than a hundred processes, and unified the company’s disparate systems to improve communication and make data more readily available for analysis and decision-making. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

SAP Global Vice President and SAP Taiwan General Manager Chen Zhiwei (George Chen) said that RISE with SAP provides the best support for expanding businesses, and it is a vital component of digital transformation. Furthermore, he added that businesses may significantly lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and increase the efficiency with which they employ their resources by adopting cloud ERP.

Detailing more about the transformation project of the well-known Taiwanese food brand, Chen noted that the company has continued to expand its business reach and actively embrace digitalization in recent years. Commenting on the SAP’s partnership with Hsin Tung Yang, he further shared:

“I am very happy that SAP can become an important partner in the digital transformation journey of Hsin Tung Yang. The practical cases of 25 industries around the world can be used as a reference for enterprise transformation. I believe that by introducing RISE with SAP, Hsin Tung Yang can fully implement digital transformation with SAP S/4HANA cloud ERP and lay a solid foundation for future business development.”

How Using SAP ERP Deployed in the Cloud Accelerates Transformation

Hsin Tung Yang is using RISE with SAP, a cloud-based ERP system, to streamline its supply chain operations. This includes real-time production line scheduling, enhanced distribution efficiency, and more precise stocking across various warehouses. Moreover, Hsin Tung Yang also hopes to cut inventory holding costs, speed up inventory turns, and boost revenue with the use of honest and dependable data on consumer demand.

The Taiwanese food company puts significant resources into digital transformation, optimizes its operations, boosts production efficiency, and generally expedites the pace of transformation in the conventional food sector. It has now joined the growing roster of SAP cloud customers in Taiwan that harnesses the power of the cloud to become an intelligent enterprise. In the future, the company plans to practice sustainable growth from the inside out by incorporating sustainability into all of its internal processes.

As a staple in Taiwanese households for numerous generations, Hsin Tung Yang is committed to its founding principles of “Integrity, Innovation, Flexibility, and Sustainability,” ensuring that the company’s products will always be ones that people fondly remember. Hsin Tung Yang’s Director and General Manager Mai Shen-yang claims that the firm is always pushing to improve its processes, products, and environmental impact.

According to Mai Shen-yang, the firm is the first and only one in Taiwan to simultaneously implement products, and it has developed from being a tiny store in the market to a top 100 brand. Meanwhile, in terms of the company’s collaboration with SAP for its digital transformation program, Shen-yang remarked:

“We look forward to adopting RISE with SAP in the future, with the help of SAP’s technical power and industrial experience, every decision is supported by data, speeding up the digital transformation process of Hsin Tung Yang and enhancing market competitiveness.”

By deploying RISE with SAP on Microsoft Azure, electronics manufacturer Wistron Corporation harnesses the power of the cloud to improve the flexibility of the organization’s global layout and quickly drive digital business transformation.

Wistron Corporation operates out of Taiwan and serves the electronics industry. The firm acts as a “original design manufacturer,” or ODM, creating products that are then licensed to other businesses. Wistron Corporation and its affiliated companies and subsidiaries strive to keep their position as an industry frontrunner in IT. Its members offer a wide range of communications, components, and software solutions to the industrial market.

As a leading provider of worldwide index information and communication products, Wistron Corporation is aware of the dynamic nature of the global market and its corresponding regulatory framework. As time has progressed, the company has spent heavily in research and development (R&D) for new technologies, growth for emerging markets, and diversification for all of its corporate activities.

This time around, Wistron Corporation decided to modernize its enterprise resource planning (ERP) by implementing RISE with SAP on Microsoft Azure. According to SAP Taiwan’s press release, the SAP project is aimed at bolstering the Wistron Corporation’s adaptability and responsiveness in preparation for digital transformation. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

Wistron Corporation and its subsidiary Wistron Information Technology reevaluated the operational process and the applicability of the group’s information systems through SAP S/4HANA Cloud ERP to help connect the relevant data of each process’ endpoint, enhance the visibility of the overall business, as well as provide significantly greater and more flexible decision-making capabilities for the rapidly evolving business group.

According to Shen Qingyao, General Manager at Wistron Information Technology, a large factory like their company can benefit from moving their ERP system to the cloud, revamping their internal processes, and assessing the efficacy of their ERP’s peripheral information system. From there, he explained that they can optimize and strengthen the integration of each system and ERP individually, create a robust digital hub, and integrate all of their data together.

Following the announcement, Wistron Corporation has now joined the growing list of SAP cloud customer base in Taiwan, where companies are increasingly turning to SAP solutions and technologies in order to provide a solid digital groundwork for their operations. In particular, the Business Transformation as a Service (BTaaS) signature cloud offering RISE with SAP has been widely adopted across the region for its comprehensive solution that includes analytics, business process intelligence (SAP BPI), and features of the powerful SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) — ultimately enabling customers to become sustainable, intelligent enterprises.

Deploying RISE with SAP on Microsoft Azure to Drive Transformation

As a result of the massive impact that technology is having on every sector of the economy, businesses and other organizations are searching for the right platforms and reliable partners to assist them in accelerating their digital transformation. With this, SAP and Microsoft are building on their long-standing strategic partnership to leverage each other’s respective products to not only drive their own companies, but also to enable their joint enterprise customers to operate their mission-critical workloads and applications with RISE with SAP on Microsoft Azure.

Sharing his thoughts about the advantages of the cloud for business transformation, Microsoft Taiwan General Manager Bian Zhixiang emphasized the need for digital resilience for businesses to keep their competitive edge in today’s fast-paced global market. He maintained that the cloud’s defining features — including its speed of deployment, adaptability, and security — serve as crucial foundations for businesses. While digital transformation is necessary, Zhixiang also stressed the importance of resilience in mitigating operational risks.

Further commenting on the collaboration with SAP, Zhixiang noted:

“I am very happy to cooperate with SAP to assist Wistron in deploying RISE with SAP on Microsoft Azure to accelerate the process of Wistron’s digital transformation. Microsoft will continue to use innovative technologies to empower Taiwan’s industries to accelerate transformation and achieve more accomplishments.”

Meanwhile, Chen Zhiwei, Global Vice President of SAP and General Manager of Taiwan, supported Zhixiang’s statements, saying that data is the bedrock upon which the modern digital economy is built. In order to succeed, he believes that businesses need to be able to handle their data in real time while also making it fully transparent to all employees.

“Wistron has promoted transformation over the years. The determination and achievements of Wistron are obvious to all. This time, Wistron chose to upgrade RISE with SAP to create a new digital core and make decisions based on that,” Zhiwei remarked.

By combining SAP cloud technologies and international standards with eCloudvalley’s local industry insights, Taiwanese enterprises will be equipped with a sustainable tool to help overcome their concerns about carbon emissions and support their transition to a greener business model.

Taiwanese businesses are finding themselves confronted with pressing needs for sustainable transformation in response to the global sustainability movement —- whether as a result of the requirements of supply chain manufacturers or based on the need to comply with government mandates. SAP is aware that maintaining accurate and reliable data across the organization is critical to the successful execution of sustainability initiatives. In order for enterprises to increase their overall green competitiveness and experience sustainable transformations, each operational unit must first undergo the development of a digital core and then the introduction of sustainability factors.

For the benefit of Taiwanese organizations, SAP Taiwan and IT services provider eCloudvalley Digital Technology have announced that they will collaborate to offer a suite of sustainable solutions based on SAP’s cloud computing infrastructure and eCloudvalley’s knowledge of the local market. The products and services are designed to help businesses enhance their data collection and management, speed up the adoption of green practices like carbon inventory and carbon asset management, comply with the International Standard ISO14064, bolster their competitive advantages, and better prepare for a sustainable future. (InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.)

SAP Global Vice President and SAP Taiwan General Manager Chen Zhiwei mentioned that the top 100 most environmentally conscious businesses in the world are almost entirely made up of SAP customers. Regarding SAP’s partnership with eCloudvalley, he shared:

“We will draw on the essence of sustainable transformation in the world, and use cloud technology to join hands with local partners in Taiwan to bring technology to Taiwan’s industries. It will become a solid and reliable backing for the sustainable transformation of Taiwanese enterprises, and comprehensively create a sustainable blueprint.”

SAP and eCloudvalley have teamed up on the development of a comprehensive cloud-based sustainable solutions that were officially launched last month. The solutions will enable businesses to comply with government regulations regarding sustainability and relevant international standards in the most time- and cost-effective manner possible. On the other hand, the comprehensively sustainable solutions will also be made available on the online SAP Store store for any and all businesses that choose to engage in sustainable transformation.

SAP Cloud Technology Leveraged in New Collaboration with eCloudvalley

Subscription-based software as a service (SaaS) is the backbone of SAP and eCloudvalley’s all-encompassing sustainability solution. To better understand their current sustainability performance, businesses can pick and choose among a wide range of options based on their specific requirements.

Additionally, the solution follows the government’s requirements on carbon emissions from Taiwanese businesses and is built on the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). It creates importable, fully functional modules that may be utilized quickly and efficiently across various dimensions.Compliance with government sustainability rules and the needs of upstream and downstream manufacturers can also be met while reviewing the company’s carbon emission status and adapting to shifting conditions in the market.

eCloudvalley Chief Executive Officer Cai Jiahong explained that eCloudvalley partnered with SAP to help accelerate the sustainable digital transformation of large-scale enterprises by incorporating eCloudvalley’s expertise in digital transformation of Taiwan’s industries with SAP’s international-level technical resources and developing modules that can be imported quickly.

“We hope that by linking international standards and local industry insights, we will prepare Taiwanese enterprises with a sustainable tool, alleviate carbon anxiety, and help Taiwanese enterprises achieve green transformation,” he further commented.

Ultimately, SAP and eCloudvalley work together to help customers collect enterprise data in its whole, manage the three areas of carbon inventory, and implement sustainable international standards like ISO14064 and ISO50001. This allows customers to maximize their competitive advantage in the industry.

Kanpai Group, one of Taiwan’s leading restaurant chains, has selected SAP S/4HANA as part of its digital transformation and expansion strategy. By deploying the SAP ERP platform, the company aims to streamline business operations and enhance decision-making to gain a competitive advantage in the industry.

Amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan is one of the nations that have prioritised digital technology in the development of various sectors, including the food industry. Tsung-Tsong Wu, the nation’s Minister of Science and Technology, believes that the pandemic is indeed accelerating digital transformation. In an interview with EE Times Asia in August, he said that the current circumstances present both challenges and opportunities for businesses to rethink supply chain management and technological development.

As an example of the government’s digitalisation efforts, the Digital Nation and Innovative Economic Development Program (DIGI+) and the 5+2 Innovative Industries Plan have been put in place since 2016. Moreover, Wu added that Taiwan will focus on six key areas in the post-pandemic era: 5G/6G Internet infrastructure, space, semiconductors, security, precision healthcare, and digital transformation.

In line with Taiwan’s drive for nationwide digitalisation, Kanpai Group — which operates a variety of Japanese Yakiniku restaurants and offers food and beverage services across the country — has expanded its digital transformation strategy in partnership with SAP(InsideSAP Asia often references articles from websites in other languages to bring you as much information as possible.) In pursuit of the company’s next growth stage, Kanpai Group has implemented SAP S/4HANA as its enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform. Leveraging SAP business process solutions such as SAP S/4HANA helps businesses recover and thrive in the post-pandemic world.

Kanpai Group Accelerates Expansion with SAP ERP Platform

Founded in 1999, Kanpai Group has two major product lines: roasted meat (wagyu) and hot pot. The company has grown to eight brands and 34 locations, all dedicated to offering high-quality wagyu and serving customers with combined Taiwanese and Japanese cuisines. Given the business’ rapid expansion, Kanpai Group needed a powerful ERP system to restructure the end-to-end processes, manage the operational data of several departments, improve decision-making, and stay ahead of the competition in the catering market.

Kanpai Group Chairman Hiraide Shoji explained:

“We reorganised the process and successfully launched SAP S/4HANA after 8 months, strengthened process automation, rigorous internal audit and internal control, ensured the correctness of front-end data, and greatly accelerated our financial reporting month.”

“As a result, work time has been shortened by more than 50{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22}, and managers can grasp monthly performance more quickly so that decision-making can be based on evidence,” he disclosed.

Meanwhile, Lin Weide, SAP’s Global Vice President and General Manager of Taiwan, said that Kanpai Group chose to introduce SAP S/4HANA to lay a digital core foundation and completely connect all aspects of operations. This will allow decision-makers to grasp the current situation of the group in real-time, flexibly adjust the business policy, and accelerate market response, according to Lin Weide.

“I believe that SAP can support the business scope of Kanpai Group across different business models and provide strong assistance to the company’s future overseas layout plans, so as to prepare ahead of time for the international development,” SAP Taiwan’s GM further added.

Furthermore, the new SAP ERP platform has also helped Kanpai Group in terms of:

  • Tracking and tracing all factory information in real-time, from production scheduling, inventory management, to logistics export.
  • Directly searching goods on the platform and accurately obtaining each batch and material number to ensure food safety.
  • Capturing data, analysing it in multiple dimensions to fully optimise the efficiency of logistics operations.
