A new release of SAP Jam includes new features to make it easier for IT teams to more easily provision and maintain enterprise collaboration technology.

Among the new capabilities in SAP Jam Collaboration are customised company home pages, which can be created by IT administrators for context-specific groups of colleagues, allowing the solution to be used as an intranet supplement or replacement, as well as administrative area home pages.

SAP Jam Collaboration also enables IT to equip specific organisations and departments with the ability to manage their own collaboration area, by manually adding or removing users and information.

“Business units are demanding more from IT than ever before,” said Steve Hamrick, vice president, product management, collaboration software, SAP. “Often, lines of business opt to deviate from officially endorsed systems and solutions, leading to disparate and potentially vulnerable information systems. In this environment, streamlining business processes is critical to improving employee productivity and keeping up with the pace of the market. This ultimately helps IT deliver a more productive and secure collaboration infrastructure.”

A recent study by Forrester Consulting conducted on behalf of SAP found that SAP Jam customers were recording a significant reduction in time to access information and expertise, and that over three years, organisations can reduce the cost of license fess from multiple collaboration products by 20 per cent.

SAP and SuccessFactors have released a new version of social software platform SAP Jam Collaboration.

SAP Jam Collaboration supports the SAP SuccessFactors Learning solution, by helping employees and instructors collaborate on a continuous basis for training and development.

According to SAP, this helps organisations reduce their dependence on single training events for corporate learning. Via Jam Collaboration, organisations can engage learners before, during and after training events with course and topic-based learning, provide forums for questions and insights, and scale mentoring and development programs.

“Some of the best ideas and leading-edge know-how lies untapped in the minds of our colleagues, partners and customers,” said Sameer Patel, senior vice president and general manager, Collaboration and Communities, SAP SE.

“To unlock this hidden potential, we set out to transform how organisations can reimagine the interactions between our market-leading learning management system and new peer-based learning concepts. I’m privileged to say that leading global brands are already adopting these new transformative learning concepts only available from SAP SuccessFactors solutions.”

International media company Bertelsmann is one of these companies, implementing SAP SuccessFactors Learning for 100,000 employees as part of a broader digitisation of its existing businesses.

“We are also using the SAP Jam social software platform to foster social learning and internal collaboration around specific learning events, helping to support our individual ‘digital’ development, which is highly important for us as a global media, services and education company,” said Mathias Damaschke, senior director, corporate HR strategy and systems, Bertelsmann.
