SAP in the Philippines is paving the way for organisations in the country to become intelligent and sustainable enterprises in line with the German software giant’s programme Chasing Zero centred on creating initiatives to help achieve the bold vision of a world of zero emissions, zero waste, and zero inequality.

Since 1995, SAP has been driving innovation and empowering organisations of all sizes, both local and multinational companies, in the Philippines by providing end-to-end business solutions that streamline operations and help them remain agile in their respective markets. Under the COVID-19 environment, SAP remained steadfast in accelerating organisations’ digital transformation leveraging intelligent technologies that enable them to adapt to the unprecedented challenges and fast-changing digital economy.

Edler Panlilio, SAP Philippines Managing Director since 2017, shared that the company has slated initiatives for 2022 that would propel the transformation of its customers into intelligent, sustainable enterprises. He stated:

“The urgency of us coming up with this program was anchored on our desire to help different organisations pivot into the digital platform and transform themselves into intelligent enterprises.”

“We have put a structure to every transformation we have started with S/4HANA. Now that we have a structure, it is faster for us to help our customers, move them in different stages of transformation. The good thing about this is that it aids every company, every organisation in whatever transformation they are in today,” he added.

SAP in the Philippines Driving a Circular Economy

In 2015, software enterprise multinational SAP along with other global companies has committed to adopting several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) centred on collaboration and innovation to achieve a healthier, just, and peaceful planet by 2030. While remaining committed to the SDG framework, SAP has specifically focussed on eight UN Global Goals including Decent Work and Economic Growth (8), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (9), Reduced Inequalities (10), and Responsible Production and Consumption (12). With 77{aa282f308afcc222aaa21b0478c79e01a8fedd01972e2180867097bd93930f22} of the world’s trading volume running on SAP systems, SAP recognises the massive impact it can create in delivering the particular SDGs underpinned by the company’s core competency on improving business process management through its software solutions and the scale of its customers globally.

One of the tech company’s initiatives that back the SDGs is the Chasing Zero programme, which aspires for a greener, cleaner, and more equal future, Panlilio said:

“And for us to achieve this, we have to act now. In line with our purpose, SAP’s objective is to create positive economic, environmental and social impact within planetary boundaries, with a special focus on climate action, circular economy social responsibility, and holistic steering and reporting. In addition to pursuing our own targets, we want to help our customers become more sustainable.”

Over the recent years, SAP has introduced several industry-specific solutions and programmes with sustainability at the core such as SAP S/4HANA for Waste and Recycling, SAP Intelligent Returns Management, SAP Responsible Design and Production, Feather by SAP, and the latest SAP.iO accelarator progammes in Paris and Singapore. Moreover, SAP’s concierge Business Transformation as a Service offering RISE with SAP has also been pegged to bolster digitalisation and sustainability in the micro, small and medium enterprises market, which dominates the Philippines.

In November 2021, Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) pioneered the adoption of RISE with SAP on Amazon Web Services (AWS) as part of the company’s transformation strategy and commitment to delivering an inclusive and sustainable future for the Philippines. The company’s subsidiaries have been involved in toll roads infrastructure, healthcare institutions as well as power and water utilities.

“One of the things that we have done is we have paid a great amount of attention to making sure that from a purpose and sustainability point of view, we are engaging with the world both as exemplars of sustainability which means that we embrace sustainability in all of the right forms within our own business practices. But that we also are engaging with our customers as enablers of their sustainability and purpose initiatives. We feel like we have dual roles to play, and in both of these roles it’s important that we do so with authenticity and credibility,” SAP Philippines MD shared.

In the recent five years, SAP Philippines has been complying with the international standard for the environmental management system ISO 14001. The company has also partnered with UNICEF to provide aid to millions of Filipinos in Visayas and Mindanao affected by the devastating Typhoon Odette.

SAP in the Philippines has been accelerating over 1,800 organisations’ digital transformation including industry leaders Ayala Land Inc., Bank of the Philippines Islands, Jollibee Foods Corp, JG Summit Holdings Inc., Manila Electric Co., PLDT Inc., and San Miguel Corp.

SAP Philippines celebrated its 25th anniversary, providing solutions and services not only to conglomerates but as well as to small and medium-sized businesses in the country across many industry verticals such as real estate, banking, energy, and IT.

Edler Panlilio, Managing Director of SAP Philippines since 2017 said:

“As we celebrate our 25th year in the Philippines, we are all proud that many companies and institutions run better with SAP. We remain committed to our purpose of helping Filipino companies of all sizes to become intelligent enterprises and improve the lives of Filipinos through technology.”

For over two decades now, local and multinational companies leverage SAP’s end-to-end business solutions in streamlining their complex daily operations while increasing productivity and staying competitive in their respective markets. SAP continues to strengthen its presence in the Philippines since its operation in 1995, growing its number of employees from 10 to 2,000 now across four offices around the country.

SAP Philippines has received the 2020 Top Employer from Top Employers Institute for empowering best people practices and having exceptional employee working conditions. SAP Philippines has received this distinction for three consecutive years.

Delivering SAP’s Mission

Despite COVID-19’s global disruption, SAP in the Philippines continues to deliver SAP’s mission to help the world run better and improve people’s lives. The technology advocates technology innovation both for businesses and for the youth of the country.

SAP for SMEs

For the SME-dominated Philippines, MD Panlilio has been encouraging businesses to leverage SAP Business One and SAP Business ByDesign as they navigate the road to becoming an intelligent enterprise even in this unpredictable environment. The nation’s economic recovery post-pandemic lies in the ability of the SME ecosystem to thrive by leveraging technology since the sector is responsible for 2.5 million-job creations in the country.

“These quarantine guidelines demonstrated how technology continues to play an important role in supporting business continuity. Organisations now rely more on digital tools and platforms to move labor-oriented practices into more automated and technology-oriented processes,” Panlilio said earlier in June.

SAP and the Filipino Youth

Recognising the youth’s creativity and innovativeness in addressing today’s pressing concerns, SAP has created programs such as SAP University Alliances. It is a global program that enables faculty and teachers at educational institutions and partners around the world to educate next-generation talents with SAP skills for the intelligent enterprise and the experience economy, engage with SAP events, build industry partnerships, launch graduates in the SAP ecosystem, and inspire young thinkers.

In the Philippines, there 15 universities enrolled in the program including De La Salle University-Dasmarñas, which has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation and SAP University Alliances earlier this year.

In partnership with the ASEAN Foundation, SAP supports ASEAN Data Science Explorers, another program designed to explore the youth’s potential in creating a positive social impact in Southeast Asia through technology. The recently concluded ASEAN DSE 2020 National Finals awarded two college students from Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology to compete at the regional level to be held in November.

“SAP’s enduring purpose is to help the world run better and improve people’s lives. Over the last 25 years, our Filipino colleagues have grown our business and operational footprint significantly in the Philippines. As we look into the next 25 years, innovation and ecosystem is going to help accelerate our efforts to achieve a Digital Philippines and drive our next wave of growth,” said Verena Siow, President & Managing Director of SAP South East Asia.
