State-run telecom provider, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will help organisations of all sizes throughout India to create, consolidate and file their Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns through SAP, in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding between BSNL and SAP.

The partnership is intended to simplify the GST process for organisations, particularly SMEs, by leveraging the strengths of BSNL as GST Suvidha Provider (GSP) and SAP as Application Service Provider (ASP). BSNL, which views the GST as an enabler of digital growth in India, currently serves approximately 115 million customers across the nation.

“As an intrinsic part of the Government’s Digital India initiative, we see GST as an important tool in the process for nation building,” said Shri Anupam Srivastava, chairman and managing director, BSNL. “Our mission is to ensure that every business in every town and village in the nation successfully adopts GST,” he said.

“As we complete nearly a year since implementation of GST, the nation’s indirect tax system has streamlined considerably,” said Hemant Dabke, vice president – Strategic Industries, SAP Indian Subcontinent.

“Our collaboration with BSNL is a step further in our continued efforts at fast-tracking GST compliance in the country and will extend this success to tier II and tier III markets of the country.”

Launched on July 1, 2017, the GST initiative is one of India’s largest tax reforms. Under the tax regime, more than 51 million SMEs in India are in a position to reinvest in or redefine their business processes.

The new regime is intended to ensure that indirect tax rates and structures in India are common across the nation and to remove the previous cascading taxes by applying a system of tax credits throughout the value chain.

SAP has signed a memorandum of understanding with Reliance Corporate IT Park Limited (RCITPL) to introduce SARAL GST to enable simple and secure compliance with India’s new Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, planned for rollout starting July 1, 2017.

SARAL GST is expected to provide unified support and high quality service to organisations paying taxes under the new regime. In addition to generally simplifying the process, the GST solution will be both secure and scalable.

SARAL GST will leverage the expertise of both SAP and RCITPL in the new tax environment. SAP, in its role as an Application Service Provider (ASP) will enable organisations to create, manage and file their GST returns simply and securely. RCITPL, in its capacity as a GST Suvidha Provider (GSP), will provide the means for SAP to connect to the government’s GST system by way of the Reliance Jio Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network.

“GST is not just a tax reform but is an unprecedented opportunity for companies to improve functional efficiencies and realise increased profitability,” said Neeraj Athalye, head of S/4HANA and GST Adoption Drive, SAP India. “Besides helping businesses get compliant with the new law seamlessly, SARAL GST will also enable them to benefit from the GST vision.”

“We see GST as the next avenue to enrich and enhance the nation’s Digital Life experience,” said Rajkumar N. Pugalia, head of GST Initiatives, RCITPL, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited. Pugalia said SARAL GST represents the latest initiative in the two-decade partnership between SAP and Reliance.

In advance of the planned July 1st implementation of India’s GST Bill, SAP has launched GST in a Box, an all-inclusive solution created to help organisations not only to become compliant with the upcoming tax changes, but also to seize the opportunity to transform their businesses to thrive in the digital era.

In addition to helping organisations of all sizes in all industries to become tax compliant in the GST environment, GST in a Box will enable organisations to manage customer engagement and supply chains efficiently within the new tax system.

Part of the Grow with SAP campaign, with its emphasis on digitally transforming India’s small and medium enterprises, GST in a Box is just the latest step in SAP’s plan to help Indian organisations prepare for the new tax system.

GST in a Box builds on a series of education initiatives dating back to 2014, including an online resource centre, industry events, webinars, white papers, work groups and consulting notes. Estimating that 40 per cent of the 4-5 billion invoices uploaded each month run through an SAP system, SAP takes its role in assisting organisations to thrive in the new GST environment seriously.

“We believe GST is capable of generating a more stable source of revenue for the nation,” said Neeraj Athalye, head, S/4HANA & GST adoption drive, SAP India.

“To make this tax regime real-time, effective and transparent, businesses will have to go digital,” he emphasised.

SAP is embarking on a 21-city GST Health Check Drive to provide free evaluations of GST readiness and assist organisations in developing a transition plan. Starting in Mumbai, the two-month initiative will extend to Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Kochi, Jaipur, Indore, Ludhiana, Bhubaneshwar, Surat, Nasik, Chandigarh, Aurangabad, Vizag and Rajkot.

SAP has partnered on the initiative with key industry partners including YASH Technologies, vCentric, itelligence, Fujitsu, Softwin, Infocus, Entune, Corporate Serve and SAVIC.
