Deploy Tableau in Stages

Tableau Software, the world’s leading analytics platform, has announced that Woolworths Group will deploy Tableau’s data reporting and visual analytics. The agreement will enable employees across Australia’s leading retailer to analyse data for fast, real-time decision making.Woolworths will rollout Tableau in a staged deployment in the coming months across multiple group businesses covering functions including Merchandising, Finance, Supply Chain, Store Operations and People Operations.

Nigel Mendonca, Head of Tableau ANZ said, “Retailers worldwide are transforming themselves to thrive in the omni-channel marketplace. We’re delighted to partner with Woolworths to fuel their innovation agenda through modern business intelligence for the benefit of its customers.”

Partnership

Woolworths’ decision to partner with Tableau forms part of the Group’s ongoing focus on insight-driven decision making. Tableau was selected due to the solution’s connectivity with existing systems, agility and user-friendliness.

Doug Frank, Woolworths Group General Manager of Data & Analytics, said, “ Customer expectations are always rising in retail and we need to work smart to keep up with them.  The key advantage of Tableau is speed and ease for our team. It will allow team members across the business to analyse, understand and act on customer insights incredibly quickly.  We see this type of capability as key to delivering what our customers want and expect of us into the future.”

Organisations will be able to turn their transactional business data into actionable insight, according to SAP, on the launch of its new Data Network.

SAP Data Network services will enable executives to benchmark, plan, predict and simulate business scenarios using anonymised and aggregated data.

“Our services enable customers to unlock the value in their own data — whether it’s top-line growth or bottom-line improvement,” said Helen Arnold, president, SAP Data Network. “Drawing on the power of SAP HANA and our team of highly skilled data scientists, we harness the transformative power of connected data.”

Using machine learning and natural language processing to normalise and enrich data, the products will deliver predictive modelling and simulation capabilities coupled with recommendation engines embedded into business processes.

“Not all data is created equal. We place highest value on real-time transactional data and trusted supplemental third-party data,” said Arnold. “Business value is rapidly realised through a standardized process that begins with three days of ideation. A prototype is then developed in four weeks, and a company can begin to reap the benefits in nearly three months. Thus, customers can test desirability, viability and feasibility of data-driven services in weeks, as we fuel their agile innovation.”

SAP’s first reference customer for the service comes from the industrial sector. Urban mobility provider Schindler worked with the SAP Data Network organisation on an insights service that could share contextual information from non-SAP data sources and SAP software in real time, connecting all the parties involved in the company’s elevator installation process. This provided full traceability of all relevant elevator data and an end-to-end digital trail of the installation process.

“Innovation with data at the core has changed our perspective — it makes us more competitive and creates new opportunities,” said Nilesh Mhatre, CIO Americas, Schindler Elevator Corporation (US). “The insights service provides us relevant data to sustainably improve our installation process and shorten installation time.”

SAP Hybris will begin operating a new data centre in Sydney from the end of Q3 2016 – the first in the APJ region for the customer engagement and commerce solution provider.

It will be the first data centre added to SAP Hybris’ network since 2013, when its Frankfurt location went live. SAP Hybris also has another data centre located in Boston.

The new Sydney data centre, to be housed in a data centre facility, will host SAP Hybris Commerce, Cloud Edition, and SAP Hybris-as-a-Service (YaaS).

A statement by a SAP Hybris spokesperson said, “the new facility addresses the requirements of many Australian public and private sector organisations that are eager to transition to the cloud, but have concerns about hosting data offshore”.

“The investment is also part of SAP’s global strategy to provide full security and regional data compliance to all its customers,” the spokesperson said.

SAP Hybris said it will release more information on the data centre closer to its launch in Q3.

SAP Australia opened a data centre in Sydney in 2014 to provide customers with local access to SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, and last year, a data centre in Canberra to support Federal Government agencies.
