The recently announced SAP COVID initiatives in India aim to keep its employees and their immediate family members safeguarded amidst the pandemic.

SAP Labs India has joined a growing cohort of employers offering to bear the full vaccination cost for their eligible staff and their insured dependents. A testament to the recognition given by the Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) in October 2020, this announcement further strengthens SAP Labs India’s commitment to supporting the fight against COVID-19.

SAP has always prioritised the health and well-being of its employees in India by implementing initiatives to help them thrive in these challenging times. Last year, the company rolled out programs such as group work opportunities, applications for communication, and virtual platforms to keep its employees safe and healthy while working remotely. SAP Come Alive, for example, is an initiative that offers fun and wellness activities online to help the teams stay optimistic.

Once again reinforcing its pledge to invest in employee-focused initiatives, SAP Labs India has recently stepped out to cover the vaccination costs of their employees as the second phase of the vaccine rollout now takes place in full force.

Sindhu Gangadharan, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, SAP Labs India, has confirmed in a statement that employees and their family members can get the vaccine and reimburse the expenses later on.

It is also possible for people to get their tests administered at the comfort of their own homes by getting in touch with the staff from the network of hospitals that SAP has partnered with.

Furthermore, those who need to undergo hospitalisation after testing positive can claim the cost of treatment through insurance. Meanwhile, those who do not need to be hospitalised can opt for a free virtual consultation with doctors from SAP partner medical centers instead.

SAP Labs India Ramps Up Efforts to Combat COVID-19

SAP is known as one of the first companies to introduce work-from-home options, flexible working hours, and rotating schedules for onsite business-critical operations in India. The company still encourages its employees to continue with their remote working set-up in today’s COVID-19 environment.

However, it has also opened its offices across the country to support employees who are struggling to adapt to a work-from-home setting. At this stage, SAP Labs India’s use of technology has been emphasised to obtain accurate information on the number of employees going to the office at any point in time.

“Since we are a technology company, manual monitoring was not a preferred choice. We, therefore, asked our employee volunteers to build a suite of apps to ensure COVID-related safety and precautionary guidelines are adhered to while at work,” Gangadharan explained.

Meanwhile, a Bluetooth-based contract-tracing solution was developed to monitor employee movement and help maintain social distancing. Another application is also being utilised to inform colleagues who were the primary contacts of a COVID-positive employee in the office.

“An AI-based video analytics solution has been developed to help the company’s physical security team monitor, in real-time, social distance and mask-wearing violations in common areas across SAP office buildings like entry gate, back gate, cafeteria, and main reception entry,” the statement further said.

In line with these initiatives, SAP continues to take various steps to keep employees’ spirits high and ensure their well-being is well taken care of in this pandemic.
