Global IT and business process company Wipro has leveraged its HOLMES artificial intelligence platform to drive new automation services for SAP applications.

Designed to deliver cognitive enhancements to user experience and productivity, Wipro’s automation services deliver end-to-end capabilities across live insights, predictive analytics and business process optimisation, and enable new business models.

The services also have a conversational computing interface, which is powered by technology from Avaamo – a company in which startup investment arm Wipro Ventures has a stake.

“Wipro HOLMES is a strategic asset in our AI and automation services portfolio,” said Rohit Adlakha, vice president and global head, Wipro HOLMES and automation ecosystem, Wipro Limited.

“The launch of our automation services is emblematic of a paradigm shift in automation services being offered to clients, which go beyond the boundaries of traditional platforms and applications. Additionally, it is reflective of our strategic commitment to Wipro’s long-term alliance with SAP to jointly build solutions and use cases on the latest SAP software.

“This also strengthens our AI and automation ecosystem to deliver efficiency, effectiveness and an improved user experience for clients in their automation journey.”

The interface for Wipro HOLMES 2.0 for SAP applications has been certified by SAP to automate and interoperate with business processes running in SAP ERP. The services are modular, so customers can prioritise a deployment across specific business processes, administration and technology.

SAP and IBM have announced plans to collaborate to a greater degree on solutions based on SAP Business Suite 4 HANA (S/4 HANA), with resources to be co-located in Walldorf, Germany, and Palo Alto, California.

The focus of co-innovation efforts will be on solutions that “increase customer value through cognitive extensions, enhanced customer and user experience, and industry-specific functionality”.

This will include the creation of industry-specific cloud solutions, expanded SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud services to include ongoing application maintenance and support services, and the development of cognitive solutions for SAP S/4 HANA and line-of-business solutions utilising IBM’s cognitive APIs.

From a user experience perspective, IBM Interactive Experience digital agency, SAP Global Design, and the SAP Customer Engagement and Commerce team will together to create predesigned experiences that can be customised for clients’ customers and employees.

SAP and IBM will enable client engagements for hybrid and on-premise offerings with SAP HANA on IBM Power systems, supported through the new IBM Power Systems Center of Excellence for SAP HANA, while the two organisations will also co-create digital transformation road maps by industry and by C-suite role.

“Today’s announcement builds on SAP’s commitment to enable strong, growing businesses that can seize the amazing opportunities of the digital economy,” said Rob Enslin, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE and president of Global Customer Operations, SAP.

“SAP S/4HANA is the reimagined suite of core business applications that has once again set the standard for the industry. I’m delighted that IBM and SAP will collaborate closely to give customers a clear road map to innovating new business models and outcomes that were never before possible.”

“The future of business strategy and business value will proceed from the foundational elements of this announcement – cognitive, cloud and the design of consumer-quality experiences in every industry,” said Bridget van Kralingen, senior vice president, IBM Global Business Services. “We’re formalising a complementary set of capabilities to simplify and speed outcomes for clients evolving to become cognitive enterprises.”
