SaaS-based software testing and delivery specialist Panaya has opened four new offices in Singapore, Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai, to meet a 150 per cent increase in demand for its enterprise agile delivery solutions.

The company has recently signed a number of new customers for its software testing tools, including several Chinese pharmaceutical, consumer electronics and home appliance companies, as well as an international bank and insurance company based in the Philippines.

Rajesh Handu has been appointed the vice president of South East Asia, South Asia, Hong Kong and Korea to help drive growth for Panaya in the region. Previously, he served as managing director of Asia for NICE Systems, building a high-performance team that achieved 25 per cent market growth last year, and successfully closing high-growth strategic accounts.

“I am excited to join Panaya to spread our unique consultative approach that helps IT delivery software changes effectively while introducing new initiatives that create a competitive edge,” Handu said.

“Many Asian companies are going global, and to automate international business processes they need to implement software delivery tools that will enable their enterprise applications to scale up while adapting quickly to business changes,” said Moshe Leder, executive vice president, APAC and Japan.

“Rajesh’s leadership and proven experience in addressing custom needs and building long-term business relationships in the region will help Panaya grow its regional business.”

SAP Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) will invest €1,000,000 to One Billion Lives (1BLives), a crowdsourced region-wide initiative employing SAP technology to deliver sustainable, commercially viable social impact.

In the program’s second year, five employee-driven ventures were selected to receive seed money of up to €200,000 each. The five wining ventures will be guided by experts, mentored by the SAP.iO Entrepreneurship Accelerator Program and coached by industry specialists.

“1BLives exemplifies our role as an organisation to improve the lives of the people in the communities we operate in. It is a unique space where SAP employees can act as entrepreneurs and develop sustainable social impact at scale around a cause they are personally passionate about,” said Scott Russell, president, SAP Asia Pacific Japan.

“This is only the beginning and a catalyst for innovative ideas. We will support these teams with a robust framework, mentorship and technology as they engage with non-governmental organisations, partners and the broader ecosystem to validate and realise these ventures.”

The five ventures, which are part of an early stage social-impact incubation arm at SAP.iO who mission is to grow the next generation of disruptive new businesses for SAP, include:

  • Digital Aged Care: This venture looks to leverage the Internet of Things platform that connects wearable devices and smart household devices to monitor an elderly’s condition to provide better efficiency for aged care givers. The aim is to increase quality of health care, and enable a better functioning of the aged nursing workforce.
  • Accessible Eyecare: With preventable blindness common and set to rise in rural parts of India, people are dissuaded from visiting the eye clinic due to travel time. This venture hopes to leverage SAP Leonardo to provide an intelligent mobile platform for ocular diagnosis, helping victims make earlier corrective action remotely.
  • Food Waste Management: Kicking off in Thailand, this venture aims to create a supply chain management platform to salvage unwanted food and connect it to a demand, stemming hunger crisis for those in need.
  • Water Management: Non-revenue water is the water lost in cities through water supply systems between source and end user, which contributes to waste totalling $14 billion a year. This venture aims to minimise this loss in India through the use of SAP IS Utilities to attain real-time information from measuring sensors on water loss, combating the issue of water scarcity.
  • Disaster Relief Network: Using SAP Ariba and SAP Hybris, this venture aims to leverage a consolidated platform to enable collaboration between all disaster relief parties increasing the effort to impact ratio, helping more people in the long run.

The venture teams are now working in the accelerate phase, where they apply lean start-up methods to challenge ideas through iterations and strong mentorship. The ventures are expected to test their ideas and go live with minimum viable product (MVP) by the end of the year.

“1BLives is a combination of the best SAP has to offer – our values, innovation, culture and ecosystem to deliver on a better Asia Pacific Japan for tomorrow. It is a key part of our strategy to realise SAP’s full potential in this promising region,” said Russell.

Grace Sai, judge for the 1BLives initiative and co-founder and CEO of Impact Hub and partner at Hub Ventures Fund, said, “The 1BLives initiatives is a great benchmark for big corporates like SAP and others to follow. The exploration on how to use a corporate’s own talent, capital and technology to better the world and attack some of the world’s most stubborn problems, is an admirable cause.”

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced the extension of its Cloud28+ initiative into Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), bringing together an open community of regional and global commercial and public sector organisations with the goal of removing the barriers to cloud adoption that have been created by the fragmentation of the APJ market.

Originally dedicated to the European market, Cloud28+ continues to grow and is now available worldwide, with 40 HPE partners across APJ already joining the community. The aim is to foster collaboration in order to improve access to cloud knowledge, create new business alliances and accelerate business outcomes with solutions tailored to each customer’s unique digital transformation needs. The APJ portion of the Cloud28+ website is now available in English, Korean and Japanese.

Customers and partners can join free of charge. According to HPE, customers will gain access to vast amounts of cloud knowledge as well as the ability to partner with service providers in the community to resell their own digital offerings and develop new go-to-market avenues. Partners gain innovative ways to increase their visibility and revenue opportunities while lowering their marketing costs. In addition, they gain opportunities to create new business alliances.

“Cloud is a critical component to ensuring a stronger digital economy in Asia Pacific and Japan,” said Stephen Bovis, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Group, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, South Pacific.

“Hosted and secured in Asia Pacific and Japan, Cloud28+ gives local and regional organisations the opportunity to find the best mix of services by trusted HPE partners, while allowing partners to demonstrate their unique value add,” he said.

The Cloud28+ community includes service providers, solution providers, independent software vendors (ISVs), systems integrators, distributors and public entities, all of whom are committed to increasing enterprise cloud service availability for customers across Asia Pacific and Japan. The single, federated catalogue of cloud services will facilitate access to services, promoting agile services, job opportunities, creativity and competitiveness across the region.

HPE has also created a go-to-market alliance with Microsoft through Cloud28+ to provide new business opportunities and tools for partners and to accelerate business outcomes for customers. Through the alliance, HPE and Microsoft will create a joint Azure Stack ISV onboarding program to connect software vendors to HPE and Microsoft solution and service providers, who will benefit from dedicated lead generation campaigns and sales enablement activities. Through the alliance, customers will be able to access an even more comprehensive community and cloud service catalogue.

Cloud28+ has more than 570 partners to date, contributing to a catalogue of almost 20,000 build and consume services out of more than 350 data centres worldwide.

Cybercrime has reached its highest-ever levels, with 144 million attacks detected over the last 90 days, and a 45 per cent increase in cybercrime in the Asia Pacific region year-on-year, according to the ThreatMetrix Cybercrime Report for Q2.

According to the report, cybercriminals are increasingly targeting emerging digital business models, such as ridesharing apps and media streaming organisations.

A major driver in the increase in cybercrime is the rise of new account origination fraud, which has risen 30 per cent since Q1. Stolen data obtained through security breaches is being used to apply for new loans or create banking and eCommerce accounts, as well as to perform large-scale identity credential testing and attacks on less tradition industries. Media companies have been more affected by this trend, with a 527 per cent increase in new account origination attacks.

“Highly organised criminal gangs have set their sights on disruptive, mobile-heavy industries like media streaming and ridesharing. As new business models take the digital economy by storm, innovative methods of monetising stolen credentials found on the dark web are emerging,” said Vanita Pandey, vice president of product marketing and strategy, ThreatMetrix. “With ridesharing apps, for instance, fraudsters are taking trips using stolen credit cards or propagating two-party fraud by using a fake driver account and ‘accepting customers’ using stolen credentials.”

This quarter’s report also saw Japan join the list of top five attack destinations for the first time.

A pilot project created to improve the quality of care for geriatric patients in Singapore will kick off in the first half of 2016 through a partnership between SAP, Sierra Solutions and ACE Seniors, with eCareApp on SAP HANA at the centre of the Networked Care pilot.

The eCareApp, which will be available in the SAP Store, is built by Sierra Solutions and runs on SAP’s HANA Cloud Platform for iPhones. The app is designed to connect patients, caregivers and families with advocacy, expert opinions and healthcare programs to improve access to best practices in self-care and caregiving.

ACE Seniors is a Singapore-based social enterprise and interest group offering a holistic approach to successful ageing, a growing issue in healthcare with the number of Asians aged 65 or older increasing to 565 million by 2030 from 300 million today.

“Because Singapore is ageing, there will be more people suffering from maladies like dementia and Alzheimer’s, and more caregivers struggling to care for their loved ones. Innovations like Networked Care can empower family members to better care for patients affordably and efficiently,” said Andy David, director, healthcare, Asia Pacific region, SAP.

“As a Singaporean company, we’re especially excited to pilot the Networked Care app in the city state first,” said Ranjan Vaswani, CEO, Sierra Solutions.

“Our partnership with SAP, through the SAP OEM Partner Program, has been integral in achieving these objectives and our decision to use the HANA Cloud platform, provides us with an easy to deploy and flexible platform, with enterprise grade capabilities. Moving forward, we look forward to working with our partners to extend availability of the app to additional countries across Asia including India, Thailand and Japan,” he said.
